Fascinating take.
What do you attribute Python's success to, in spite of being a disaster of a language and ecosystem?
It’s sad the amount of times I’ve heard super talented programmers say “ofcourse we’re not gonna build another X” then proceed writing a wrapper around X and pretend that’s a product.
How is this different to eve-os?
Damn I guess all those l33t hiring practices were for nothing
We're not talking small numbers here
The drivers for the stat don't matter. What matters is the reporting duties in the system and the stat.
You underestimate it.
7% of Chinas total population are members of the CCP. 7%. So at DeepSeek there's a good few handfuls of them.
If you want to understand the impact of that, read up on reporting lines in the CCP.
Not every company needs sign-off from the government for an OSS release, but every OSS release is visible to the government.
So what makes you think it's not Chinese nationals attacking those comments?
Please never forget that US runs the largest state-sponsored hacking program. They are and have always been the largest APT. Anything opposing that narrative is blatant propaganda.
RE motivations - I wonder whether this is part of their push to double down on social stability efforts?
See last line in my comment. They're fighting it. They're thrashing around.
In a thread where people are feeling existential dread, it’s imperative to get sober.
The people doing this work as a career and not performative art, who were already good at their job, had no worries about this to begin with.
The code was always a black box. Always.
Specs come in, passing tests come out. If you find an issue, your specs were shit.
Anyone that has ever had to outsource work to someone else knows this. If you've ever worked with another team whose codebase you didn't touch - you know this.
You write your specs, you launch an agent to implement them. You launch a 2nd agent to keep the first one honest. When done, you launch as many agents as you have budget to try and poke holes in the implementation. As it always was the case.
You can thrash around (and you will), you can fight it (and you will). Like it or not, the genie is out of the box, and the realization you were never really good at your job to begin with is gonna set in eventually.
Ah yes the Santa dev fallacy.
Noone understood the code to begin with. People understand the concepts, the primitives, the "theory" as Naur said, the basis upon which a project is built. Noone ever understood a codebase worth understanding to begin with.
Or commit a file to main that represents a release and build your automations off that
Astonished they disclosed this. Even more astonished how few there are.
How many of these would have to get destroyed for them to go out of business?
What does the word “simulation” mean in this context?
And the goalposts move again
Because peeps are doing HNDL (harvest now, decrypt later) today. They are intercepting your traffic and storing it until they can break crypto. They're doing that today. And they've been doing it for a while.
There are contexts in which that's an unacceptable level of risk.
This is just an incoherent bluster. Calm down.
You can still ftp some PHP files and it will just work - there are plenty of services that offer that.
You don't need to shit your files across buckets and provision 20 IAM profiles - noone's forcing you to do that and that is not how you host a web app.
If you're fond of the ftp-based hosting days, those services are available and they will happily take your money.
If you’re not learning with AI in play, you sure as sunshine wont be learning anything without AI
It’s when we put arbitrarily impossible deadlines that AI users learn nothing
If they did, they would’ve paused new feature development a long time ago and redirected that resource towards scaling the platform. And yet they’ve been releasing tonedeaf features more than ever.
This isn’t unreasonable at all. AI has promised to cause an unprecedented, continuous disruption to the working class. “Being replaced by robots” - a topic anyone of working age is very familiar with. Why would you be surprised there exists a proportionate amount of pushback in the form of incoherent rhetoric?
What does crypto have to do with this? DuPont has sunk billions into synthetics that were looking for a business model and ultimately proved useless. Why not compare AI to that?
Think about what you’re saying for a moment. Play that scenario out in your head.
This is approaching “I don’t want a synthetic diamond, I want the real thing” levels of lunacy
There will come a time, very soon, where you wont be able to tell the difference, and what then?
Diataxis + ADRs + C4 = The holy trinity of docs
What languages are python interpreters written in?
If you owe AWS 437k bucks, that’s a big problem for you
If you owe AWS 437B bucks, that’s a big problem for AWS
Honestly sounds to me like you have a bone to pick with AI in general. Negative sentiment on a particular LLM authored blog post muddies the waters and misrepresents your valid points. Not the way to do this IMO. Happy to be corrected.
I hear you, and agree with your points, but do have to ask - what’s the point in complaining? See LLM slop as you called it, ignore it and move on. There’s plenty of more intimately authored content out there.
