Postman valued at 5 billon? WTF? I mean the IT industry lives in fart cloud honestly. I really really think everything is just a little bit overvalued, isn't it?

People should be using curl + bash. It's a universal combination available almost everywhere.

Can someone explain how is it than once you pull something like this you effectively get real money?

What are the countermeasures, is something frozen blocked marked as invalid?

I'm completely ignorant on anything related to cryptocurrencies.

Re:AI promised less work. I've never worked more on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:40AM (#50260126)
Perhaps is not correctly phrased, but the way I see it:

Because these tools are now available whoever that is up in the management chain (possibly someone that has no idea about code or technology) is now entitled to request the undeliverable in the same amount of time.

I believe a couple of scenarios might unfold in the near mid-term future:

* Programming becomes now a task that anyone can do (assuming models outpace even the highest standards when it comes to certain software qualities). Under this premise wages go to the floor, now even grandma can do it.

* Companies still demand competent people as models plateau and do not offer outstanding software qualities yet the output is good enough that programmers should be able to do way way more than before. The job should then be high-paid but turns out highly-stressful.

* For some years eveything goes "just fine" under the vibe code party until competent people at major companies realize that have disastrous products and basically unfixable. Models start to decay. Then old school competent developers become again highly required and only a minority of "skilled-previous-generation" programmers that decided to keep doing things the old way get desperately required.

Obviously no-one has the crystal ball and anything can happen...

Perhaps some fired, others promoted.

> Are we? If this were really true we'd have had rockets at least 10 thousand years ago if not more...

Yes it is my personal belief that we are definitely much much better at creating than AI models, which the only thing they do is output an empty and dull regurgitation of its training. There's nothing truly personal and original coming out of it when it comes to creating music, literature, art, etc.

Do you know why I am so against all this hype? Because it is a poison for the mind, it deprives you from thinking from understanding and from questioning things by ourselves, and I'm already witnessing AI junkies that consume and take for granted every single output from a model.

We have already proven that most social networks are toxic and detrimental to people, especially teenagers. On top of that now add no thinking for ourselves anymore.

Why think if you can now outsource it to a computer, right?

Why everything has to be touched by AI? I really don't get it. Not long ago a canadian writer was also in the center of a storm accused of using AI in a novel that won a prize.

Why do people fall for it so easily? Is it just laziness? Rush to finish things? We are so much better at creating new things that using the tech feels like cheating to ourselves.

Does a similar event exist in Europe? Since a kid I've always been fascinated by these beautiful gaming machines. The lights, colors, art, sounds and unique designs. They transport you to another era.

You forgot flight computers.
Note: The post has now been flagged. Why? I have no idea but it seems incorrect.
Re:Why Math Dumped OpenAI on Sunday October 18, 2026 @05:34AM (#50139461)
This post has been "flagged". Why? It doesn't seem to be correct nor fair.
Reason #1 to keep writing code by hand is that you don't ever lose that connection between you and the code.

There was an excellent post here on HN that unfortunately went unnoticed. I highly recommend reading it as it exactly points out this problem: understanding.

Re:Why Math Dumped OpenAI on Saturday October 17, 2026 @06:32AM (#50129764)
If you didn't read the post, its main topic is about understanding and how not relying on that just produces a series of results that have little or no value to the math community at all.
Re:Why Math Dumped OpenAI on Saturday October 17, 2026 @06:28AM (#50129729)
> Modern mathematics research has always been tied with leveraging increasingly potent and numerous computing resources.

Why do you need to have potent and numerous computing resources to do math? Engineering could be that. But when I think about math the only thing that comes to my mind is a pen and a piece of paper. Not computing power nor even a calculator.

Re:Why Math Dumped OpenAI on Saturday October 17, 2026 @06:12AM (#50129650)
Excellent post. A few days ago I must admit I miserably failed to make the main point of this post (understanding) to convince people that they should stop producing code that they don't understand.

I found this extremely hard to do, especially if you are trying to convince people that have absolutely no real contact with source code. The false belief is that now with AI you can run on any topic without even knowing how to crawl.

People are immersed into the false belief that now because you can produce an app from night to day you don't need understanding anything at all. And they are absolutely fine with that. And that to me is the key problem: being ok on any topic without understanding and not realizing the cost of it.

I wish people would at least get deeply informed before making harmful decisions and get only lured by snake oil marketing.

In the end I think all math produced from these companies will be their ruin because they essentially show light on the fundamental problem: to advance you need to understand.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @06:40PM (#50125743)
The car part is pretty neat. I like it, though you can clearly see that they grabbed a Gallardo and stylised it a la retro-futurisric.

The problem is not the car, is the flying part. No doubt is pretty impressive but I can't see myself buying it even if I had the money, the car: yes, the flying part: no.

This is just a technology demostrator trying to perhaps increase the stock value of SpaceX and Tesla.

Consider also that there could be people not interested in the car but in the hardware and the flying technology itself. The level of precision shown in the demo makes me believe that you truly don't want to commercialize such a product: is too much advanced tech for peanuts for the ones who have other plans.

Re:Tiny Little Office on Thursday October 15, 2026 @06:37AM (#50101759)
Is it? Or is it just more AI slop?
> The New Constructs report also notes that Anthropic’s assertion that AI could pose “a catastrophic or existential risk to humanity” is another reason why investors should avoid the IPO.

So, we go from an existential threat to basically unprofitable business. I can only see Amodei and Altman just as the next Holmes.

Re:Computers Cannot Make Decisions on Saturday October 10, 2026 @05:40AM (#50031210)
Every time I read a statement from one of these companies saying that a swarm of agents "escaped" or "attacked" a website I can do no more that just think how much stupid they think people are. LMAO.

There is no end of the world, nor autonomous agent decisions nor any fantasies they are building up to make people believe they have a pandora box in their hand.

What we instead have are lies crafted to lure non tech people and keep this running as long as they can.

Oh and let's also not forget that they are allowed to illegally download basically as much as they want from libgen/annas archive/torrents to train their models under the "fair use" umbrella, yet mere mortals can go to jail for way much less.

Re:What should we tell our students? on Friday October 09, 2026 @08:30AM (#50019555)
With all the slop being generated I would also like to see the same initiative in the software industry.
Sorry, no. This is not the future I wanted. I do not run any agents nor ever will.

I find all this is just the next-gen privacy violation, disguised obviously as: "Oh, WOW an agent in the computer is doing all this for me". Bullshit.

It seems that never is enough with these ever thirsty companies, they keep pushing the limits and surprinsingly a lot of people do not care at all nor value the implications of having an arbitrary process running and doing pretty much whatever the agenda of their creators are.

Re:Reflections on 1,000 Days of Math on Saturday September 26, 2026 @03:06PM (#49859536)
I think the question to be asked about this post should be: "How many things can you solve by yourself outside the platform you are currently using?".

I have the feeling (though I could be wrong) that you might very well sort out the exercises and problems that are presented in the platform, but what about tackling for example Project Euler? How far can you go with the knowledge that you acquired from this platform after 3 years of daily usage?

Please note that I'm not trying to diminish the value of the mentioned platform but I believe that tackling problems that force you to hit your head on the wall and/or figuring out things by yourself with maybe some books, makes you learn in a completely different and richer way.

This is the most accurate definition of Samsung products I ever read.
Re:I said no and Apple said yes on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @09:01AM (#49800583)
I don't know what you consider "actually new" hardware. The machine I use to work has 16 Gb of RAM. Ryzen 7 and an AMD GPU. For me that's a pretty decent and recent hardware.

If you meant the lastest of the latest GPU, processor, chipset and so you you might better off with Linux.

But the fact that the computer that was given to me was boxed from factory and bought after two weeks after started is a sign of recent hardware. I haven't tried it but two other person where I work have high end brand new ThinkPads and I'm confident FreeBSD can be run on those well too.

Re:I said no and Apple said yes on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @06:59AM (#49799275)
Of course it works and is beautiful hardware and all that.

But don't fool yourself. You're subverted to Apple's rules the same as Microsoft users are to Windows.

I prefer to fight a little bit on an update on a unix system on something that is not working 100% to give up choices. When you use Windows, MacOS, Android you do not have choices. Choices are dictated from above, like it or not.

As for me every time I have to interact with something that is not BSD or Linux I suffer miserably.

Re:I said no and Apple said yes on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @06:12AM (#49798893)
Running FreeBSD on a Lenovo Thinkbook 16 G7 ARP that was bought brand new less than a year ago. Everything except the wifi works flawlessly (daily driver for working).

And the wifi is easily fixable either buying a non expensive dongle or waiting for the next release.

Also running bhyve as daily driver with Ubuntu for development purposes. Everything works without issues, perfectly.

Re:I said no and Apple said yes on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @05:50AM (#49798709)
FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD are your friends too!
Re:Raspberry Pi blocks changing RAM chips on Monday September 21, 2026 @09:48AM (#49787254)
Why not just paint the original chips with some special ink that says VOID IF TAMPERED over the RAM chips and the board? Pretty much like other hardware manufacturers do with seals or stickers, wouldn't this solve the issue?
Re:Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board on Friday September 04, 2026 @11:21AM (#49565961)
Can someone explain why is this important or relevant and is not just Altman once again trying to get people "impressed"?

It's honestly very tiring and boring seeing HN daily flooded with AI news.

What's wrong? There's nothing wrong. Just people addicted to FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Netflix, YouTube, etc.
