Yet another unsourced vacuous 'everybody says so' statement. Frankly, bots do a better job...
Re:Spain train crash: 'At least 10 dead' in high-speed collision on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:51PM (#50279905)
Yes, you could have saved yourself the disgraceful jab, specially taking into account that it was the previous government who disinvested in rail.

wastedpotenTial indeed...

Re:Spain train crash: 'At least 10 dead' in high-speed collision on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:46PM (#50279821)
Remember who disinvested in the rail system maintenance: the previous right-wing government.

Re:US threatens Europe over Starlink restrictions on Sunday October 18, 2026 @04:19PM (#50145077)
You're wrong about intervention in Iran, it started far earlier, with the coup to Mossadegh
Since when have moral appeals worked against the central feature of capitalism?

Only strong regulation can help.

Cost-adjusted,it might be ahead.

It's key to name the boundary conditions. Unlimited cost is a very HN assumption.

Re:DeepSeek: DeepSeek v4.1 Flash 1017 on Saturday October 17, 2026 @01:31PM (#50133108)
We're talking about the country that has tried multiple times to destroy their country, look up Mossadegh for the 1950s and check out the glorious bombing of a school for 2026.

No lessons to take from the US.

PS. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_interventions_by_the_U...

I know the US thinks only its citizens are human, so "The United States has been involved in hundreds of interventions in foreign countries throughout its history, engaging in nearly 500 military interventions between 1776 and 2026, with half of these operations occurring since 1950 and over 25% occurring in the post-Cold War period” is not probably part of the reputable storytelling

They are arguing for you using your brain instead of tethering it to a number.
No, I don't think you (or the part of the thread I read thus far, top to bottom) are giving the most charitative interpretation of the post.

In my understanding, the article wants to raise awareness of the potential dynamics of a mathematics/theoretical computer science field governed by the imperfect rules (as they must be) of human sensemaking when the merit system (publication and community standards) are hacked by a machines for which the cost-benefit calculation is very different than for human reseachers for which the rules were invented / sedimented in the first place.

The foregoing discussion above about the emergent utility of now seemingly wasteful theoretical research is as old as any other, but equally predicated on human effort/apability ratios. And AI should invite us to rethink, because to be relevant to humans, its unwieldy results will have to be judged by humans, on their timescales and effort budgets. So we are discussing whether SPAM or HAM before we literally spend our lives as human critics of what ultimately could just be a reward hacking exercise by somebody with access to free tokens.

You are underestimating their opportunism
Listen, I've been enough time on this Earth to know what is behind immigrant demonization, and it's not a particularly dark instinct. It's a well orchestrated distraction maneuver to have the lower classes find somebody to blame that is not the brutal increase in accomodation prices, that leads, de facto, to wage-slavery for big chunks of the population.

So no misunderstanding, millionaires gotta have the poor white Swedes blame the poor brown Swedes. True intelligence requires analysis of the power relations. The Mullvad boss can do without my money, and possibly I can spare my empathy for the next immigrant that will be beaten, burned or sent back to a war-torn country or a climate-change disaster zone.

You're transforming "remigration" into "controlling borders" and "opposing immigration".

But I agree the F word frequently doesn't advance political discussion.

Not giving my money so that it flows to an antiimmigrant party, having myself been an immigrant, is rather different from punishing.

Only rich tech bros have this absurd situation where they are "punished" by a political opinion, because only they can meaningfully sway "one person, one vote" with their money.

Are we talking about the political opinion of toilet cleaners who don't have the money to donate, or the energy, or the podcasts to express it? No. That's not an opinion that can be punished, it's just a non-event for many here.

So let me not shed a tear for the political opinions of the Mullvad boss.

Re:Could We Dredge the Netherlands Without Fossil Fuels? on Monday August 24, 2026 @04:28PM (#49425422)
Somebody would have to drive the buses and wait the tables. You're making it appear as if immigrants appeared out of thin air to occupy a social position. But the receiving country needs them, because their population is too old, too lazy, too greedy, or all three.

It's very useful to have a disenfranchised underclass of immigrants to keep your own working class in check. Bonus points if you convince the latter that the source of all evil is the former.

101 capitalism, and it has worked with you.

Re:Fixing a Bricked Framework Laptop on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @11:26AM (#49347110)
The entire USB-C situation with the Frameworks (I have both the original gen 11 and the AMD 7040) is a massive train wreck. They have clearly given up on fixing it. Only some of my ports work, and not reliably. Th EC controller is a bug fest. If you don't believe me, check their forums. I wish I could get back all the hours I spent debugging this, to no avail.
Re:Asus Bike Booster on Sunday August 16, 2026 @08:44AM (#49319533)
Switzerland lets 45km/h bicycles on bike lanes. The requirements are higher, but boy, do they dart through the city. They seem to make long commutes (or fast shorter ones) appealing to a lot of people.
Maybe through https://texmacs.org? It supports handing over beautifully typeset and semantically-structured math to various CAS

Comparing at similar thinking hasn't much value. You can compare the tiers that have the closest price, that would be more interesting.

Re:IRGC Claims It Destroyed Amazon's Bahrain Data Center on Saturday July 25, 2026 @11:10AM (#49048211)
Don't be so self-centered. Supporting the IRGC to give Trump a presidency-ending war is the rational approach for non-US citizens. Iran has been so far a much more contained risk for them than the US.

Here, have a look for what a terrorist country looks like: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_interventions_by_the_U...

Re:IRGC Claims It Destroyed Amazon's Bahrain Data Center on Saturday July 25, 2026 @11:02AM (#49048144)
Why not defend it? You provide logistical support to US war of aggression, you become a legitimate target? What is this whitewashing of military involvement? (Both for Amazon and Bahrain)
Survival! Wrong thing! Stay away! Sell cars, that's what you've got to do, at any price.
