Yes, I have that situation too, with 2 other guys I develop some government's application from scratch, this 2 other guys don't understand anything about software development, there's no solid foundation, messy database structure not even have standard code convention and yes in business level changes is inevitable, the development itself running for almost 2 years, this is hell for me, I value best practices in any level, but reality is cruel, even my boss quit this project and replaced with other mediocre boss.
Until now, I still in this toxic workplace, hope for changes always came everyday, then again reality is cruel, I'm thinking to quit, surrender, find other place and I will.
So, my poor friend, if there's no good progress at all, please get out, you and your talent deserve better.
If this startup is your passion, sometime it's alright to sacrifice something for greater benefit, but if you just work at there as an ordinary employee, better find other place.
To answer your real question, I suggest friday to sunday as "not working day" don't think anything about job even deadline is short, just hangout and do what you like.
For dating people, is good to have partner that understand fully your workload, because understanding is important key to successful relationship.
Don't go to gym just for work out, running 15-30 minutes a day it's the best to keep your health, you can run with your partner or friends.
To think that I'm are ready for a challenge, but mostly I fail without preparation, that mindset makes me weak and always fail
so, you said, I should give up Hacker News?
sadly, the functionality not work anymore :(
The music just beautiful, boost my productivity :)
I'm absolutely agree with you, using Vim just to editing text, nothing more.
Sometime, Vim user tend to make their Vim into full-fledged IDE, like completion, file-browser, etc. That things I though, makes Vim user gone insane.
Seriously, Vim just for editing text, nothing more, nothing more.
Just make sure you have a good life, maybe it's the best thing you can give back. A gratitude for yourself.
Well, that women at left are so talkative.
> I do think people should learn to code. This does not mean I think: 1. Everyone should be a professional programmer. 2. "Everyone should be the same"
First of all, why we (adult) do programming? to automate something? to make repetitive tasks easier? or just for fun?
and I don't see any good reason, why we teach kids programming. If it's to train their logical thinking, we can make a game for them, give them a basic set of rules, each rules have consequent, with their imagination they can make other rules based of basic rules, with one condition that new rules can't contradict with basic and other rules, I know it sounds like math, but they will get the basic idea of logical thinking, when you do something there is a consequence.
Programming is just a tools or way, if you prefer. Not to mention a new trouble when they have a solution but can't apply it with programming, because the technical barrier they had, even you use easy programming tools like Alice, certainly there will be technical problem for them.
I agree with, why we should learn kids problem-solving skill, because they just need their brain and basic tools like pencil and paper, maybe to scratch something, to visualize what they think.
They really should learn data visualization to make it more readable and beautiful.
For me there is a different between strangers that "found" you directly and strangers that "found" you indirectly, like from graph search. Somehow you can understand more when you meet them directly, although sometime maybe you'll feel unsafe when strangers start "bothering" you.
I really like your thought, that "The purpose of life is to discover the purpose of life". I'm not atheist, although not very religious too and I'm not person who feel any happiness, really until now I can't define what happiness is, if happiness is about money, relationship, social interaction, belongings, success, etc. I will disagree with it, I can feel 'happy' when I'm read some papers, re-proving theorem or coding. I don't know if this kind of 'happy' really a happiness or just my brain that make this things a happiness.
