Re:US economy unexpectedly sheds 92,000 jobs in February on Saturday March 07, 2026 @09:22AM (#47287892)
Desk jobs like programming are nearly as bad as smoking based on some of the research I’ve seen. We could just make smokers and programmers pay higher taxes. I guess smokers already do; learned recently that cigarettes are like $10 a pack, a few thousand per year for the average smoker. Not sure how best to tax programmers though.

This whole thread feels like an Iranian cyber attack.
4. No.

Also, it’s the h1b’ification. That and boomers there either all in on Trump or TDS’d beyond reason. And probably people like me who have mostly given up. Ymmv

“Christian fundamentalists are influencing US policy to a noticeable degree.”

Prove it. Cults that use Jesus’ name are not representative of Christianity. The Waco cult, Theosophy, etc.

Israel influences our policy and I can provide copious evidence of that by naming Israeli affiliated zionists in the cabinets of the past 3 or 4 presidents and by the activity of groups like AIPAC which happen to fund some of the cults that endorse Christian Zionism. The numbers and facts are quite clear.

Ok, only tarrifs.

Anthropic: totally cool if you use our tech to kill women and children if you do it the right way, but not totally cool if you use it for certain types of surveillance.

The public: Anthropic are so noble, we should give them ever more praise and money.

Is that the synopsis? (Not really paying attention.)

Re:US economy unexpectedly sheds 92,000 jobs in February on Friday March 06, 2026 @10:03AM (#47275730)
Definitely not AI. We all know about Jeeves paradox. It must be the taxes on corporations (tarrifs). Taxes on business are always bad.
Absurd. There are very few Christian zionists amongst Christians, and a dwindling number of Christians overall, most especially in the suburbs. Christian zionists are almost entirely poor uneducated (hence their misreading of scripture) rural southerners who have effectively zero political power outside very small regional elections where international politics have no relevance.
There are not many Christian zionists in decision making positions in the US. You’ve named 1 person and how much power does Cruz actually have. The powerful are non Christian zionists. That much is blatantly obvious. Kushner, Witkoff, Lutnick, the entourage around Epstein, most of the cabinet of the current (non Christian president), most of the cabinet of the prior (catholic so non dispensationalist) former president. The media itself, which is used to manufacture consent is filled with, owned by and answers to non Christian zionists. Get a clue.
“Pics or it didn’t happen,” goes a long way in my book.

How is it in comparison to Ukraine, that’s what interests most people. I recall the last admin spending like no tomorrow on Ukraine but obviously Russia is a bigger opponent than Iran.

And it’s very hard to actually steal a cellphone since it’s always with you, whereas houses get broken into all the time.
Thanks for pointing this out. I hear people say this over and over, if Iran only had nukes it would be safe to continue propagating terrorism as it has been doing. It’s obviously wrong, as you point out. Russia has nukes. India has nukes. Having nuclear weapons doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want, if anything it brings a higher level of scrutiny. A nuclear Iran would be a serious problem for many and that’s why it’s so critical to make sure that doesn’t happen, not just for Israel but the entire planet.

What are you insinuating?

Is over $50,000, all arguments are invalid.
I remember when people said the exact same thing about Google. Youth is wasted on the young.

If only they were migrants, this wouldn’t have happened. Vote with your feet people.

I just wonder if that isn’t a totally naive, laughably unthinking remark to be making?

Re:Trump's global tariffs struck down by US Supreme Court on Friday February 20, 2026 @02:14PM (#47092498)
Or treaties or accords. All basically the same if squint. Sign something like the Paris Accord, you’re basically taxing consumers.
Re:Watching an elderly relative trying to use the modern web on Tuesday February 17, 2026 @03:26AM (#47044992)
Old people shouldn’t be on the internet. Most people shouldn’t be on the internet. Most of the internet shouldn’t even exist. I’m sure most here feel differently. So be it.
You could, but presumably most people call. I know of such a place. They wash cars on the premises but you could walk in and arrange to have a mobile detailing appointment later on at some other location.
I for one enjoy the plausible deniability afforded by the iOS keyboard. On occasion I may make intemperate remarks online or curse at someone I shouldn’t. With an iPhone, I can just follow up with “sorry, iOS keyboard!” or “oops spellcheck” and nobody gives it a second thought.
Re:Realfood.gov includes a Grok search box on Thursday February 12, 2026 @05:01PM (#46995881)
This is wrong. Protein displaces other macros, ie carbs and fat. We get too much fat and carbs.

A very good balanced take on the new guidelines can be found on “talking with docs” YouTube channel. Even the vegetarian doc agrees with prioritizing protein over carbs and fat. The big disagreement they have is the emphasis on the food industry, especially meat and dairy.

Re:Realfood.gov includes a Grok search box on Thursday February 12, 2026 @04:54PM (#46995799)
What’s wrong with that exactly?
A wealth tax is not an obviously great idea. It’s worth having a better public debate on that topic.

Love oddlots. Still grin when I recall the episode they did with Sam BankmanFreid. The transcript is worth reading if you haven’t before.
Glad no comments here are directed at China. We vilify our own government, our businesses, even ourselves for being too naive or gasp having trust in our networks. But the actual perpetrators, China, we have no harsh words for. It’s like if Ukrainian citizens blamed themselves rather than Putin. That’s how thoroughly brainwashed most people (here) are.
