Now, they're panicking. And this is why the other dude, OpenAI, came out to say that people shouldn't use RAM locally, because they can't control the software anymore.
Open weight models, ablated models are going to become the norm, hopefully, locally run.
So instead, they're saying, look, hardware should become hard to reach for all of us, for the consumers. It's not because we're competing for resources for the same silicon or chips as they are.The ship has sailed thankfully.
You pay for the asset (tenancy in a data center) and then you pay for housing, powering, cooling, etc.
This hits home. It's both a shame and infuriating what's happening in the market right now. One (unsolicited) piece of advice I would give to anyone impacted is to build their own shit. If these companies stop paying for your lunch, then eat their fucking lunch with the same gimmicks they convinced themselves are adequate to stop paying for your lunch.
I'm not just talking about the enterprise giants - build competing products , lower their margins build similar products and offer them for less. Cut out the middle-men. They might have the contract now but their operating costs are higher. In the long run they are uncompetitive.
I figured the experts here would care to express an opinion.
Also, it seems like a RAG on top of an LLM. Is that right?
They literally write "Now, I’m not going to claim to be a network expert. I may be totally off-base, but what? Reverse DNS? I don't know what this means."
The findings are a smoking gun already.
The bar shouldn't be a video of an NSA agent or someone from LG listening your everyday life. I don't doubt this happens but we shouldn't expect gamernexus to be able to prove it.
Jesus some people with their whataboutism and nihilism.
Like, stop toying around with token limits and just focus on more efficient models.
Once the local models are good enough we are so abandoning these elephants.
I'm gonna walk as soon as possible.
So they took the cream of the crop in the US and tracked it for 80 years. Most of these people will never starve or have to choose a tier 3 education for their children. It's useful as a study, but mostly to demonstrate what matters for the affluent / well-off for their happiness.
Try going to Singapore, Japan, the UK, Netherlands, god forbid France, Germany, Latin America. Try going into engineering in major US companies - you know how hiring works and who is prioritized over whom.
If you are not local or you are not part of the inner circle of management the glass ceiling is there.
Some would say that it's just empirical evidence and they never had this problem. I would call them lucky.
long live the zygons!
Ah nevermind I see a chromium fork, I skip
Amodei and his sister saw through the behavior and called it out.
" “Eighty per cent of the charter was just betrayed,” Amodei recalled. He confronted Altman, who denied that the provision existed. Amodei read it aloud, pointing to the text, and ultimately forced another colleague to confirm its existence to Altman directly. (Altman doesn’t remember this.) Amodei’s notes describe escalating tense encounters, including one, months later, in which Altman summoned him and his sister, Daniela, who worked in safety and policy at the company, to tell them that he had it on “good authority” from a senior executive that they had been plotting a coup. Daniela, the notes continue, “lost it,” and brought in that executive, who denied having said anything. As one person briefed on the exchange recalled, Altman then denied having made the claim. “I didn’t even say that,” he said. “You just said that,” Daniela replied. (Altman said that this was not quite his recollection, and that he had accused the Amodeis only of “political behavior.”) In 2020, Amodei, Daniela, and other colleagues left to found Anthropic, which is now one of OpenAI’s chief rivals."
