Re:AI Has Broken Hiring on Sunday June 21, 2026 @01:26PM (#48620763)
Here's how you fix hiring... Have them demonstrate competency.

It's really easy to screen out people when you say "Hey - login to this VM and show me how to import raw data into postgres and run a report."

Or do whatever you're going to do.

My favorite story is from a particular sean who had a candidate that said they'd been using VM for 20 years, and when he went into a document the candidate hit j 200 times to go line 200.

Re:Vapor Chamber Tech Keeps iPhone 17 Pro Cool on Saturday September 20, 2025 @09:25PM (#45319201)
Saying it's baffling is not explanatory. And whilst you say a lot you have failed to cursorsily discuss mitigating effects of insurance.
you're missing his point. Cal Grants removes an advantage that actually functions in the real world.
rice is meant to be an affordable staple food.

The same chunk of population "should" (??) think that the Israeli ancestors killed Jesus, and that the Jews will go to hell if they don't accept Jesus as their savior - so - people are weird.
Re:Claude's system prompt is over 24k tokens with tools on Wednesday May 07, 2025 @05:24AM (#43913667)
The conversation you were looking for could not be found.
I've been at 3 companies where things like this were done because processes and spending were out of control. It worked, the companies were better afterwards. I agree it could be done differently/more gently.

I'm just dismayed that so many of these posts assume the new Democratically elected president is doing illegal things - when it seems to all be within his constitutional power.

Who is the dictator here? Obviously the states that run these schools will raise taxes to fund the state schools, no?

Were you one of the many overemployed people that also worked at AWS?
Re:The Consensus on Havana Syndrome Is Cracking on Sunday January 12, 2025 @09:00PM (#42679237)
There's no chance this is disinformation muddying the online argument to prevent people from intelligently concluding that this is a directed energy weapon, of course.
Re:Will Even the Most Advanced Subs Have Nowhere to Hide? on Monday December 16, 2024 @10:04AM (#42431625)
Pretending to be a whale doesn't seem like a sound principle to me. Subs don't follow the migratory paths of whales, as far as I know. Now, we just look for whales that are out of place and send a drone out to check.

Maybe you're right though, that overwhelming the signal pattern, similar to how SDI/Star Wars was deemed moot.

What value does "Ummm" provide in your response?

If they don't accept you, as a member of the HN community, I want you to do know, that as a Canadian, we accept you.
Yes. Make any mistakes you want - just apologize or go to rehab, all is well.
I heard MongoDB is webscale, yeah?
"against the property"

You probably think identity theft is a customer's problem, not the bank too.

Just because the narrative calls it something, doesn't make it right.

It's silly for a nation-state to sue cash, it should never have been considered reasonable.

Re:Intel sells stake in chip designer Arm Holdings on Tuesday August 13, 2024 @10:56PM (#41242111)
outsource core competencies, sell good investments, deliver flawed projects, ride the hype that your CEO once was involved in a historical CPU.

Maybe it's time to buy puts on INTC.

Re:CrowdStrike CEO apologizes for tech outage on Saturday July 20, 2024 @03:56PM (#41019264)
You edited your post, which originally said CloudStrike. You make very bold criticisms for who gets the name of the company wrong.
Re:CrowdStrike CEO apologizes for tech outage on Saturday July 20, 2024 @03:25PM (#41019007)
You don't know George at all.
Re:CrowdStrike CEO apologizes for tech outage on Saturday July 20, 2024 @03:24PM (#41019004)
Who is CloudStrike?
I know a BSD. Half of the things you wrote above are wrong.
From scratch? Assembly scratch or transistor scratch?

Do you sell your art by the inch or the hour?

I have no idea what TFA means.
