Re:AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible on Sunday September 20, 2026 @06:42PM (#49780877)
The city where I work recently put up a bunch of terrible AI slop posters on electrical boxes, etc.

Reflecting on why I find them so offensive, I think it's because they all have this bubbly look of "low effort maximalism" where everything has an unnecessary amount of detail, which tends to make them visually overwhelming to look at.

I still have oppositions to AI art on moral grounds, and I doubt I'd ever hang a poster that I knew was AI-generated on my wall, but to give the author of this post some credit, I would be way less offended if the AI art that my city generated looked like any of the examples on this page.

Counterintuitively, the best way to make satellites less visible for ground observers is actually to make them MORE reflective. You want the reflection off the nadir side of the vehicle to be as specular (mirror-like) as possible so that the light reflected from the sun only makes it to a single point on the Earth's surface.

You can see that SpaceX (and probably other LEO operators as well) are already doing this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfJWli7YKPw

This video is a good visual illustration of that effect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8I25H3bnNw

Same, I started using the internet around 2007-ish and even then my sister and I were still convinced that you had to use Ask.com if you wanted to ask the internet a question. I have fond memories of that time.
