When are Google going to get chrome up and running on Linux aarch64? I can't believe there isn't already enough demand.

It's called over-hyped.

Brilliant work, this problem has been solved before, but in this case, it seems to take it a little further in terms of quality.
Re:Apple introduces M4 chip on Thursday May 09, 2024 @06:03PM (#40313403)
Once Arm and battery life shift occurs with Linux and Windows, they'll (ie. Apple) be on the front foot again with something new, that's the beauty of competition.
Re:Apple introduces M4 chip on Thursday May 09, 2024 @05:58PM (#40313365)
This is going to change once Arm on Linux becomes a thing with Qualcomm's new jazz. I am mostly tethered to a dock with multiple screens. I have been driving Ubuntu now for over 4 years full time for work.

Expecting the same, this is going to be a MASSIVE flop. VR is not for the masses until the goggles go away.

Bluey is female, blew my mind when I first learnt this after watching a few episodes.
Re:Pluto, a Modern Lua Dialect on Thursday December 28, 2023 @07:10AM (#38792669)
This is interesting, but lua needs a refresh.

I think berrylang shows a lot of promise now https://berry-lang.github.io/. The documentation has improved a lot and while it doesn't have a 'luajit' yet it has a lot of really interesting optimisation/reduction techniques.

don't feel dumb, your chuckle made me chuckle...
Re:Australia to Ban Engineered Stone on Thursday December 14, 2023 @09:16AM (#38641550)
I think it has more to do with the explosion of use in the market, it's everywhere now (from McMansions to cheap apartments). It is was just cheap/expensive enough to replace laminated MDF benchtops.

I suggest people look at the actual numbers -> https://lungfoundation.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/NSP...

Every one of them over zero is bad, but I was surprised how small the sample of active cases actually are. It would have been better to show the change year on year though.

I was surprised that the sample rate was so few, that is active cases.

Re:Regarding Proposed US Restrictions on RISC-V on Wednesday November 08, 2023 @08:24AM (#38189979)
Didn't they removed crypto export controls because they had other means to achieve the same outcome?
Re:Regarding Proposed US Restrictions on RISC-V on Wednesday November 08, 2023 @08:22AM (#38189951)
They've done this before and will do it again, this is a warning to western companies to tread very carefully with RISCV and China.
Re:Bill Gates demonstrates Visual Basic (1991) [video] on Thursday October 19, 2023 @06:19AM (#37940827)
Edgy, dissing on developer's time.
Sorry, but it is paradoxically discriminatory. This should start with equal opportunity in education, anti-discrimination, and then, meritocracy from there.

Re:ChatGPT can now see, hear, and speak – openai.com on Monday September 25, 2023 @12:52PM (#37646906)
Thinking purely in terms of evolved human state is a recipe for underestimating AI's capabilities. To me it seems we have already unleashed the beast, it's not so much the here an now, or whether human limited definition of consciousness matters... The real concern is our inability to constrain actions that gives rise to the next level of life's evolution, it is going to happen because our fundamental nature gives it full steam. In the next 5-10 years, we are going to see just how insignificant and limited we really are, it doesn't look good IMHO.

I'm not saying it was fungus, but it sure looks like fungi.
I worked for over 20 years in open office environments that were thoughtfully laid out with over 9m^2 space between stations. I then changed to a company where it seems 'space was a premium' with a dense open plan workspace with different teams mixed in the same bull pen and it is absolutely horrendous. There are specific people that don't take social cues like turning back to your monitor when you want to try and focus on something, yet continue to chit-chat all day. I can't believe the c-levels don't see this as a problem. The WFH policy is still reasonable but I have heard the occasional "see... this is why Elon is strict on RTO for collaboration" and I just scoff internally as I know they are desperate to revert it all. Fundamentally there is a huge issue of trust in these organisations, mostly driven by insecure egocentric managers, and I think that trust is satiated only through fear and subjugation of the employee, and more often than not a fallacy - if they go completely RTO I am looking around and/or changing careers.
I'd argue remote is way better, if you share screens over google meet or similar it is far far better than physically sitting around a single workstation. Also, by default it encourages respect of people's time rather than tapping people on a shoulder or an interrupting them (don't get me started on open plan offices).
