Re:Ask HN: I was given a powerful PC. Can I make money with it? on Wednesday January 18, 2023 @11:44AM (#34429111)
Not worth it on a work device and not very lucrative either.

if it were an x86 machine with a gpu you could set up a a vm with gpu-passthrough and rent it out as a remote docker context for CUDA jobs on vast.ai or render but otherwise no.

Teams and gsuite by a mile.

data oriented tech stack, uses the burst compiler and jobs system for massively-parallel workloads (maybe it's changed though since I was last using it)

Stops

The amount of 'made with unity' splash screens says otherwise, but maybe you should talk to a therapist about your rampant projection issues

Re:The Coming Game Engine Inflection Point on Friday December 16, 2022 @12:34AM (#34010832)
Been using unity since 4.0 and it's problem is it wants you to treat the engine as the operating system and enforces that with walled-gardens and a deluge of bad programming and systems-design advice that leads to some of the most unscalable spaghetti imaginable.
Re:Can WebAssembly Replace Kubernetes? on Thursday December 15, 2022 @11:56PM (#34010477)
K8s, no. Docker? Unlikely. Replacing a thing is hard, but I'm sure I'll be deploying wasm to clusters along side other worloads frequently.

Yes, if it's fucked up beyond all recognition, it's bad.
I'll take a blackbean burrito thanks

I'm more hyped about this than gpt3 tbh. I cannot wait to get a tromphone quartet going at the office holiday party

I long for the day I have a janky robot companion to shove usb drives into machines and mash the del/f12 key for me
Depends on the employer and how large/diverse the staff is.
Only on Mac and windows since they require a Linux VM. On (Ubuntu 22.04 lts server for example) you can still just apt-get install docker.io, add your user to the docker group and call it a day.

If you just want to replace the desktop management portion you can look into https://podman-desktop.io/ Or even https://multipass.run/

Both will get you to a docker host from the desktop.

Wild, I can just cancel my card in my banks app, generate a new virtual card, add it to a NFC payment app and carry on as normal.

Wierd response considering all the European colonialism and evangelism pushing their views violent down other peoples throats but go off
That's not the case here in NL. There's sector unions which represent types of work (logistics, call centers, retail work) and each can negotiate for their members. It's not a shopping mall of orgs you cherry pick from.
But rail workers definitely cant
nonbinary people have been begging peiple to use non-gendered language.

the singular they, 'my friend', y'all, fam etc... are all wonderful substitutes for a gendered pronoun.

Challenging gender roles isn't a new thing. I assure you that not being able to inherit property, or other gender-based discrimination has had people questioning gender roles for a long time.

Coding will just change, it won't go away. It will need to be directed and taught just like any other junior dev who knows the theory but has no sense of value-add or larger context.

We will always have to supervise the machines. Otherwise we wouldn't still be putting Prometheus on 'stable' systems

The greatest battle capitalism ever won was against our Imagination

It's easier for most to imagine the end of the world than an end to capitalism

Sounds like autopilot

One of the leading protesters, Emily Grace Rainey, claimed on social media that sheriff's deputies questioned her about the outages after she posted that she knew why it had occurred, WRAL reported Sunday morning.

"I told them that God works in mysterious ways and is responsible for the outage," Rainey, who rose to local prominence protesting COVID-19 restrictions, wrote on Facebook. "I used the opportunity to tell them about the immoral drag show and the blasphemies screamed by its supporters."
In 2021, Rainey also resigned from her position as a psychological operations officer in the Army, after the Army investigated her for leading a group of people from Moore County to the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol

Rainey claims to be the head of the Moore County Citizens for Freedom (MCCF). The group is a "nonpartisan network of Moore County Citizens dedicated to the promotion of conservative values in Moore County, NC, through education and activism," according to its Facebook page.
