"An AI for an AI makes the world blind".
Re:The designer lamps in my house on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @03:28AM (#49975338)
Unfortunately that "fun fact" is completely wrong (as other people have already pointed out, but with less conviction).
Re:GPT-6 Astra on OpenRouter on Saturday September 05, 2026 @12:01PM (#49577825)
The 3D version is interesting, because it's more detailed which means more things to get wrong. The mudguards are symmetrical for some reason which you would never see in real life, and there are three brake cables but no brakes!

I also think there's an extra level that I would hope an AI would nail which maybe an amateur artist would also fail at, such as thinking about what position a pelican would actually ride a bike in (maybe angling the beak down for aerodynamics etc.), but we are far away from this.

You can just get a free kit mailed to you from someone if you pay the shipping cost.
Re:Mozilla Thunderbolt on Thursday April 16, 2026 @06:23PM (#47800305)
The domain name is the most confusing part! "This is thunderbolt.io. No, not the I/O device, the AI client"...
You're saying the opposite of what the person you think you're agreeing with is.
Re:Spotify playing ads for paid subscribers on Thursday March 19, 2026 @04:42AM (#47436514)
There are lots of alternatives. What makes them all unacceptable?

> Is there a reason to use Gonic instead of Navidrome?

Not really. Both are great! I moved to Gonic because it exposed full file paths which Navidrome didn't at the time, but it has since implemented that as well.

Gonic doesn't come with a front end so it's a bit lighter if that's something you care about.

Re:Separating the Wayland Compositor and Window Manager on Sunday March 15, 2026 @04:29PM (#47391523)
River was really great even before this split, so I'm very excited to see what happens in the space in the future. I switched to Niri while waiting for it to happen, and I'll probably switch back at some point.

If you were an Xmonad user I feel pretty confident in saying River is the Wayland WM for you.

If ads are not effective, why do you think companies keep buying them? Surely they would have realized by now.
Re:Sheldon Brown's Bicycle Technical Info on Friday February 06, 2026 @09:04PM (#46920586)
When I very briefly worked at a bike shop even some of the pros said they basically learned everything from Park Tool's Youtube videos!
Re:Sheldon Brown's Bicycle Technical Info on Friday February 06, 2026 @09:02PM (#46920577)
Probably just a typo. He was 63.

They have been more focused on cloud stuff (and now AI) for a long time.
Tell me about your custom browser you're reading HN on!
You could fit the most basic version of a spaced repetition program on the back of a napkin. Why would you want to vibe code yet another program lacking a bunch of useful features though?
AnkiHub people seem kind of slimy in my experience (at least their leader, "The AnKing"). I hope they figure out a good leadership situation, and make stronger commitments to openness.

Anki is in a very solid position to be forked if anything happens, so even if this is bad news I have faith in the larger community.

Not strictly calisthenic, but you can do a lot with bands as well.
Just FYI that should be "Miyazaki and Kon", Satoshi is his first name.
Earthsea was directed by another Miyazaki, namely Hayao's son Goro.
Re:Anime fans stumbled upon a mathematical proof on Friday March 07, 2025 @02:54AM (#43288082)
If you actually check out the original 4chan post you can clearly see that it's about the first season. I'm not sure where you got the idea that it should be about the Endless 8, since you even admit yourself that it would make no sense.
Re:DeaDBeeF: The Ultimate Music Player on Thursday February 13, 2025 @05:50AM (#43034685)
It sounds like you don't need or want a music player.

> but it's way easier to just hit the light switch

This is just not true. I have 7 lights in the room I'm in right now, and I want them to all turn on and off together. This was a huge pain before I had smart lights.

Re:Replace Philips Hue Automation with Home Assistant's on Monday December 09, 2024 @03:19AM (#42364030)
You can group lights like this in Home Assistant.

You can always edit the info on MusicBrainz if it's wrong, so that everyone else also can benefit from your fixes.
I changed the batteries in my Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds without too much trouble. Unfortunately I don't think you can easily replace the battery in the case, so I still had to charge the case pretty often.
Re:Aerc: A well-crafted TUI for email on Friday August 23, 2024 @08:12AM (#41328308)
Do you feel like you shouldn't use it because of the author's politics? It's not like he gains anything from you using it. Even if he gained money from it I don't think there's any reason to believe he'd use that money to further those political opinions.
Re:Thoughts on Seed Oil on Friday April 19, 2024 @01:48PM (#40089876)
Surely searing meat in butter would burn the butter?
Do you think they should be paying for the videos you watch?
Re:Firefox for Android is adding support for 400 add-ons on Friday December 01, 2023 @07:56AM (#38486138)
Seems like a cool extension, but how come your website and legal documents are open source, but the actual add-on is not?
Re:Great Male Renunciation on Monday October 23, 2023 @08:10AM (#37984527)
Funnily enough I've always heard that referred to as a "coin pocket", but since I live in a country that has barely used cash for the last 10+ years I thought this was very anachronistic and started putting my keys in there.
