We’ve got two little girl Mohammeds at our local preschool, so cute

What was the duo-bacle?
Re:Apple introduces the new 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:14PM (#50267740)
I also have a 2010 air still in service. Replaced the battery once with an Amazon special. It’s due for another but I just keep it plugged in mostly
Re:No More Icons in Every Menu by Default on Monday October 26, 2026 @12:11AM (#50239023)
Uncertainty reigns; complete opposite of good design imho
It’s less noble than reading, since that exercises the mind and lets it wander and fill in details, etc. But I agree with a watered down version of your statement that compares television to something like watching a play, etc. which certainly has value
Exactly, Hunter is a good negotiator and has a lot of expertise. I’m tired of people casting aspersions on his success
10% for the big guy

And also to constantly redesign the icons. I am effectively icon blind at this point due to the constant churn
Re:Ask HN: Why aren't Americans rising up against tipping? on Sunday October 11, 2026 @11:54AM (#50044608)
HN tipping threads are a thing; is this your first time?
Re:Anger as man sentenced to death for Facebook comment on Friday October 09, 2026 @08:14PM (#50028175)
I wonder if France becomes majority or plurality Muslim, will they keep that rule?
“Two wolves and a sheep arguing over what to eat for dinner”
Rules about high levels judges is also interesting in the context of dual citizenship. I am surprised for instance that in the US you can be a federal judge apparently while having dual citizenship. Seems like one should have to commit to one country in order to serve at high levels
Do they prevent people from being cops if they’re too smart in Aus similar to the US?
You’d think something would have to give at some point. But as you say the police have very little incentive change since they bear little to no consequence for egregious behavior.
That’s certainly moving the goal posts, but of course America was founded on the principle of distrust of rulers, for good historical and governance reasons. Trust between citizens is a whole different topic
Re:Find the flattest route between any two points in SF on Monday October 05, 2026 @10:07PM (#49973329)
But hike a bike is no fun, especially if trying not to sweat
That’s islamophobic
That sounds like satire, as you suggested. Are you really unsure?
Should we give up all hope and ambition? Or perhaps there is a middle ground to strike?
Nice, citations?
Circumcision next?
Re:The new Firefox design is here on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @08:41PM (#49902907)
It’s not inscrutable and you don’t have to feign surprise and rely on hyperbole - people have strong feelings about Mozilla because it could be so much more. It could be carrying the torch for principles of open general purpose computing, respect for users, etc. in a world of user hostile big companies and proprietary software, but Mozilla either either can’t or won’t do it, and it’s a big shame. That’s a big source of the frustration you see commonly with any Firefox related announcement
Trees?
That would be a thief magnet in the UK
What exactly are south Asians? Serious question
Re:Brazil Bans Online Betting on Friday September 25, 2026 @08:49PM (#49852018)
Brazil should ban motorcycles; I see the craziest vids from Brazil of people on motorcycles robbing and killing people. Wild place
I mean to be honest, fuck them all. The whole affair is fruit of the poisoned tree (Zuck). Just because people are making bank working there doesn’t absolve them of responsibility for their choices. Each and every employee made that conscious choice to be a part of it all

With curry powder. So weird and delicious
Re:Enjoy Every Sandwich on Friday September 25, 2026 @12:40AM (#49840259)
I get what you are saying but still skip the airport sandwich (in America at least).
