How much money do this companies plan to extort from restaurants, who will try to pass it to customers, to pay such a big chunk of money?
Thanks. It seems to be new that option. I am doing it right now.
Unless I am mis remembering, it generated about 200 or more ZIP files that you have to download one by one.
I tried Google Takeout but with 900GB of photos is almost impossible to download.
Re:Do dentists know what they're doing? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @10:57AM (#50104644)
When my son was a toddler, he had something weird on his mouth, I couldn't tell for sure, but something was not right. No pediatrician, no dentist will say anything, untill I started pushing. It turns out his lower jaw was protrudding over his upper jaw (sorry for my english). So they made him wear braces. Had I not pushed, he would have had a more serious problem today.
At least on iOS, if I am not mistaken, you can only run the Safari Engine. Even if you run Firefox or Chrome, it is running Safari under the hood. That is what I understand. Please, correctme if I am wrong.
Yes! What the consumer needs! Less competition! Hurrah!

Sorry for the sarcasm.

Re:I said no and Apple said yes on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @09:29AM (#49800976)
I might be biased toward ThinkPads, but the only thing I envy about MacBooks is the processor and battery life.

I prefer the X1 Carbon’s body a thousand times over Apple’s unibody design, which I find cold and uncomfortable, and it tends to dig into my wrists.

And I’d take a TrackPoint over Apple’s trackpad a million times over.

Of course, that’s just my personal preference.

The problem with google takeout is that it generates hundred of files to download as ZIP. I tried it in my own collection (800GB).
Re:Ask HN: How to recover Google auth after phone stolen? on Monday September 21, 2026 @11:45AM (#49788775)
I don't get why that is not the default.
Re:Ask HN: How to recover Google auth after phone stolen? on Thursday September 17, 2026 @01:24PM (#49743835)
is that new? I migrated at the time from GA to Authy and from Authy to Ente because it was not supported.
Re:Steam Frame starts at $1059 on Monday September 14, 2026 @04:37PM (#49703597)
That is nothing, less than 10%.

Ther are countries that get it at 100% or even 200% more.

Re:Lotus Notes and the dangers of starting from scratch on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @09:46AM (#49626502)
100% my sentiment.
Re:Lotus Notes and the dangers of starting from scratch on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @09:33AM (#49626278)
I was a Lotus Notes developer for more than 10 years. The speed at which you could develop useful software was mind-blowing. I started with Notes 4.5, IIRC, and ended my time around Notes 8.

The first few years were a little heavy on RAM usage, so people thought it was slow. To give you some context, this was back when 16 MB (megabytes, not gigabytes) of RAM was a thing. But as RAM increased, Notes was no longer a problem.

For example, Lotus Notes 8, which I still have on my personal PC, uses about 11 MB just after starting. Then it adds roughly 10 MB for each "app" you open. Today, Outlook alone uses around 170 MB just after starting.

It was incredibly powerful. And migrating a Domino server was incredibly easy. Basically, you just copied the DATA folder. I remember doing this when we migrated from Windows 2000/2003 to AIX.

In the same way, the Notes client was basically a portable app. You could just copy the NOTES and DATA folder, edit notes.ini, and have it running.

So sad to see it go.

In my home city, I started to see banners all made with AI.

From my kids schools to banners for food places.

Re:A Million Falcons Went Missing. Here’s How They Were Found on Saturday September 05, 2026 @04:07PM (#49580192)
Works fine for me in Firefox with uBlock.
My previous phone was an OPPO Find X3 Pro phone. Incredible phone. I only changed it because it has no zoom on the cameras. But I used it for 5 years.
I don't get it, why can't they just change the region in the settings?

I was able to on my LG. Nice TV, worst firmware ever. It had an issue with Wifi. It basically will not connect once or so a week. You needed to change, you guess it, the region. So I will keep changing from Germany to Spain to Ireland to Germany to Etc. I sent pictures, videos, emails, links to youtube videos to LG support, they wouldn't care, they would just deny it. In the end I bought a Fire TV Max and that was it. But what a horrible support experience LG never again.

Re:Commodore 64 released September 1, 1982 on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @09:11AM (#49535676)
Similarly for me. My dad bought a fully expanded TI-99/4A from a friend who was selling it to buy a C64. On the TI, I learned LOGO and then BASIC, and played Parsec, BurgerTime, and others. Cartridges were super expensive in my home country.

A few years later, we traveled to New York and bought an IBM PC XT with a 20 MB (yes, MB!) hard drive, 640 KB of RAM, a floppy drive, and a CGA monitor. At the time, IBM had already announced the IBM PC AT with a 286 CPU, and Compaq was already selling clones.

Where is the B from? (S)venska (A)eroplan (A)ktiebolaget and the B? from (b)olaget?
Re:You could have invented PageRank on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @04:22PM (#49455310)
thanks! I imagined it will be something like that. Maybe Google used yahoo index back then as seed?
Re:You could have invented PageRank on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @02:32PM (#49453665)
What I always wonder is, how does google knows how to go to abc.com, xyz.com, mypage.com, etc. so it can crawl them?
Seing how many adults have gambling addiction, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, food addiction, and social media addiction, I will say, not so much?
Re:Nebula Sans on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @11:50AM (#49451222)
Which they license for 30 per year?

EDIT: Now I realize the 30 per year is for a video service.

Two hours is one hour too long if you ask me.

This should be implemented also for adults.

And non-avoidable.

Only to children? What about adults? Yes, I know we are supposed to be more responsible, but this things are made to be addicted and you don't realize until it is too late.
Yeah, if I could install Linux without any hacks I will get one.

Even if I prefer the body of a X1 Carbon ThinkPad, its keyboard and trackpoint.

Re:Why Aren't Smart People Happier? on Thursday August 20, 2026 @05:05PM (#49380264)
I am not the smarter, but I believe that I am smart enough. My problem is that my mind overthinks all the possible scenarios that could happen. For example, now with AI, what happens if the AI replaces all jobs, are we going to all live happy lives doing nothing? or are we going to be all super poor with the top 1% living in closed cities?
Re:OpenRouter is joining Stripe on Thursday August 20, 2026 @09:35AM (#49374399)
Is it me only who thinks OpenROUTER is a terrible name? I was thinking of a Network Router.
