You don't even need to be a good programmer to make 70-80k

You can be a really bad one, that's still upper middle class in much of America , and not to shabby even in high price cities like LA

America is a racist nation, if you target Black and Brown people much of this nation has no problem with constant violations of basic rights .

>He remarked that I wouldn't find the same type of sense of community in slums in Muslim parts of India, because their beliefs about their poverty and their lot in life was different.

Keep in mind he's probably biased in some way here.

As is people sell food stamps.

Single payer healthcare + UBI and the rest is up to you.

Rip internet
This is why I just book hotels.

Uber on the other hand may actually reduce profiling . You don't have the fear of a driver ripping you off

Re:Sign Up for Summer YC Open Office Hours on Thursday May 26, 2016 @06:33PM (#11782224)
You see the problem here ? What's to stop someone from just getting a black female friend to call herself a founder to do the pitch.

I get wanting diversity, but when you do it like this your blatantly putting others at a disadvantage.

How about you work on increasing your available times which would allow more people to apply overall.

I'm black and I found this to be odd.

How does this work exactly, do you need one black woman on the team and then you can go all 3 days. Does she need to be in a leadership role, can she just be the Secretary?

Re:Hiroshima (1946) on Monday May 23, 2016 @03:04PM (#11756034)
Keep in mind millions of people are dying in Asia due to Japanese occupation during this time.

Shouldn't those lives count as well.

Ether way Truman was president of AMERICA, not the greater good

Re:Hiroshima (1946) on Monday May 23, 2016 @12:24PM (#11754844)
Most of the men in WW 2 were drafted.

In that case I see no difference between a solder and a civilian. Truman's duty is to American boys who are dying in a war Japan started. He's wasn't the president of Japan

You also have to factor in with any negotiation Japan may of argued they still owned Korea, as they'd had since 1910

In the Battle of the Bulge children were drafted, they magically become disposable war machines.

Re:Hiroshima (1946) on Monday May 23, 2016 @01:43AM (#11752122)
>And the logic of killing civilians to save soldiers is just .. no comment.

Since their was totally a way to invade Japan and not harm any civilians. Since Japan totally didn't kill millions of innocent Chinese , Vietnamese, and Philippinos. It's not a bad guy good guy comic When exactly was the last no civilian casualties war ?

We firebombed Dresden too, but you don't see Germany getting a peace day.

And remember Truman's first duty is to save the lives of the drafted men on the front lines.

Re:Hiroshima (1946) on Sunday May 22, 2016 @08:08PM (#11750905)
It's very easy to judge past America 60 years from the moment.

Say you're about to be shipped out to run up a hill and killed by Japanese machine guns.

Wouldn't you prefer Truman use a super weapon to end the war ?

Re:Thousands of Hip Hop Mix Tapes, Why Not on Wednesday May 18, 2016 @01:59PM (#11724119)
This was my main way of finding new music when I was younger.

The problem is DJ Whatever will often just steal a bunch of popular tracks and turn them into a tape without any input from the artist.

Once you filter that out you'll find some gems. Bishop Lamont put out so many I feel he's already released his best work

Fire him, give no reason.

A dumbass like that can easily cause major problems down the line

Re:Should Prostitution Be a Crime? on Thursday May 05, 2016 @06:09PM (#11640030)
As long as you need to be a citizen , I'm concerned about human trafficking.
You can go somewhere else.

I'm liberal as can be , but you can't agree to the rules of a student visa and then say their so unfair.

You don't even need the SD card, I got a 300$ Chromebook that I run Ubuntu on, even got High Level Assembly to run
Humans have bugs all the time, you can just faint for no reason while driving . ..
Re:Ask HN: Pick startups for YC to fund on Wednesday April 06, 2016 @06:52PM (#11442941)
And even outside of just automation and authentic followers you have Amazon mechanical truk which would allow you to pay real people a quarter or whatever to vote for you.
Re:Ask HN: Pick startups for YC to fund on Wednesday April 06, 2016 @06:23PM (#11442681)
He's not talking about someone automating voting, rather imagine if founder A is a very popular guy in Twitter and YouTube.

He makes a post saying 'Hey support my awesome startup '. Founder B might have a better idea, but not the followers.

However, Founders A existing popularity may provide a nice userbase for startup, which would be a key element of success.

Theirs no real way to make this 'fair'

Re:Being a “dumb” girl in Computer Science on Tuesday April 05, 2016 @10:24AM (#11430586)
The "who had all the odds against her" part made me feel sick.

I'm seeing nothing about sleeping in a car, or any hint of a struggle aside from academia. Maybe it's just because my childhood was so shitty, but I can't feel empathy here.

You don't need a CS degree to become a well paid programmer, I couldn't even afford to finish college and I do well.

The little secret is you need to do a large amount of independent study, programming side projects, etc to become a decent programmer.

I'm down for 100$.

It has to be nation wide in at least 45 states, it also needs to be a comparable price to what Uber is now ( so like 30$ or less for a 10 mile trip)
