I argue it's not Open Source (Freedom, not Free Beer) because PRs are locked and only Hipp and close contributors can merge code. It's openly developed, but not by the community.
Re:Decimal BASIC:a tool for calculation and investigation on Tuesday October 10, 2023 @12:33PM (#37834306)
Is there a full source for the Mandelbrot shown on the home page?
So...he invented Python?
Re: on Thursday August 17, 2023 @12:55PM (#37164653)
I thought this was how Shazam worked as well. I hummed a tune and was super disappointed it didn't identify it. Sounds like a business opportunity to me :)
Re:Immortal Objects for Python on Wednesday August 16, 2023 @09:59AM (#37147114)
A ~2% slowdown in every python program everywhere sounds...unfortunate to say the least.
Re:The Future of the Vim Project on Thursday August 10, 2023 @07:34AM (#37074774)
Pretty much this. I'd like to take a crack at updating that vim.org page away from PHP5/MySQL.
Re:Rest in peace Bram Moolenaar, author of Vim on Tuesday August 08, 2023 @10:09AM (#37049202)
Was there the usual banner posted here in mourning? I seem to have missed that. RIP. Love vim.
Re:Lace Card on Friday June 23, 2023 @08:20AM (#36445833)
"IBM Doily" is cute. Love that.
Re:Mullvad: Removing the Support for Forwarded Ports on Monday May 29, 2023 @10:51AM (#36114557)
> NAT hole punching

Could we just throw a STUN service in front of this, then?

Re:It Wasn't AI on Monday May 15, 2023 @01:33PM (#35951667)
Ironic that I had to pass Cloudflare "Are you human" verification.
Re:Word Does Not Exist on Monday May 15, 2023 @11:58AM (#35950345)
I've had several like "According to facts and standards" or "standards and standards" or "facts and facts".
Re:Why Object.keys doesn't return (keyof T)[] on Tuesday May 09, 2023 @09:29AM (#35874018)
Overpaid behavior. ES5 was fine.

That's rich!

Not a single original thought. How this isn't about Terry A. Davis is disappointing
Re:ChatGPT and Wolfram Is Insane on Friday March 24, 2023 @02:25PM (#35293437)
There's a subtle irony in being sent to Reddit from HN
Re:LoRA: Low-Rank Adaptation of Large Language Models on Friday March 24, 2023 @09:03AM (#35288476)
Maybe call it LoRALLMR (Laura Loomer)
Re:Google Bard enters open beta on Tuesday March 21, 2023 @11:17AM (#35247448)
"Bard does not support Google Workspace addresses".

Cool, bye!

Re:FreeBSD Home Audio Studio on Thursday March 02, 2023 @08:05AM (#34995160)
Focusrite makes higher grade options for the pro studio space. They offer a variety of rack mount interfaces.
Did anyone else notice Gmail/Workspaces were down this morning? Only briefly
Re:Idiot Proof Git on Wednesday November 09, 2022 @11:08AM (#33533621)
Just learn Git. It's really not that bad. Don't _ever_ make someone use Rebase without their understanding of what that really means.
Re:Demo of =GPT3() as a Spreadsheet Feature on Wednesday November 02, 2022 @01:41PM (#33439882)
What about subtle formatting differences (Country, Territory, Postal code is the norm. Doesn't have to be.). What if we applied this to hand written addresses? (Adding an OCR component).

I'm sure the USPS is already doing this and more, and if not, there's probably some AI jobs lined up for it :)

Re:Google is shutting down Stadia on Thursday September 29, 2022 @01:30PM (#33024229)
Does anyone think we'll ever see the sunsetting of something huge like YouTube or GMail?
Re:Security in Plan 9 (2002) on Wednesday September 28, 2022 @02:05PM (#33011133)
It would have been funny for a blip but this has been front page for >6 hours and it's still down
I think System of a Down asked this same question: "Why don't presidents fight the war?"
Re:Use plain-text email on Monday September 12, 2022 @11:45AM (#32812022)
Imagine trying to read that very website as a plain text email. The headers, bolding, and rulers make a huge difference.

Plain text email reminds me of the original ethos behind Markdown. "You're already doing it". Except, not everyone has the same rules. We can all read it but there becomes necessary a translation layer.

Re:Show HN: I made a modern web UI for Hacker News on Thursday September 08, 2022 @04:08PM (#32771345)
Hah, I have particularly bad eyesight and HN and Terminal are both around 175% normal (12pt) zoom levels.

So, that's a really interesting thought. Perhaps our solution to a permanent reminder of nuclear destruction[1] could be hidden inside a plane of Unicode.

Re:Cdecl: C Gibberish ↔ English on Saturday April 23, 2022 @09:28AM (#31134073)
I think of it as a programmers aide much like regex101.com or crontab.guru
Re:Show HN: Make your PDF look scanned in browser on Tuesday April 19, 2022 @02:48PM (#31087243)
How would you download the payload without an internet connection?

Let's presume it is malicious, and the mere act of downloading the WASM starts an injection.

Re:1x Programming on Monday April 18, 2022 @12:55PM (#31073328)
