It's funny to see this on here now, 10 years later. I went to school with both of them. Was and still is a very cool project! GMU produces some pretty good minds out of the ECE Dept.!

Actual reality and Truth are the same thing. Because two parties cannot agree on what they perceive the Truth to be does not imply it doesn't exist. In fact, both parties could be wrong - Truth could be a 3rd thing both are oblivious to.

Couldn't agree more on this being bad terminology. Something is always implicitly trusted. Whether it's your root CA certificates, your Infineon TPM, the Intel hardware in your box, or something else. When I first saw this term pop-up I thought it meant something completely different than it does, I guess because of the domain I work in.

As codehalo pointed out, there's no magnetic pattern that represents coins on your hard drive. There is a magnetic pattern that represents your private key for your wallet (if you store it there), which possession of you might equate to possession of the coins to since without it they can't be used.
Still, access isn't really possession is it. I can lend my house key to a friend but they don't possess my house. The deed is what really declares me the owner. In the case of your coins, it's the consensus of the blockchain.
