Its plausible those acts of generosity were in fact a response to the same kind of criticism at a time, just a generation before Carnegie and others.
You can measure UX. Just ask 100 people "does it feel worse? did you like it better 5 years ago?"
All the power users are always jumping around by now and many hold the smallest subscription with all the models or at least two.
Narrating this as if it’s the game of thrones is a fun exercise, but it’s just becoming commonplace now that models jump ahead of each other on a weekly to Monthly basis.
read Varoufakis for the story on how this happened. European surplus capital gets recycled as VC money into Silicon Valley. So it's not like there's some big choice to be made, its potentially a systemic part of the global monetary flows.
You just get an LLM to do the bounding box stuff or use the ComfyUI node that provides a GUI for bounding box generation
animals do have rights. we do have animal cruelty laws.
I know of entire media departments that went from - let’s hire an artist and see what they come up with to - let’s produce hundreds if not thousands of images to explore all possible ideas (and end up with something bland anyway).
What about when they manage to get an Opus 5 level model to run on your phone?
Sora was a social network type thing. Google sells their models on a PAYG basis - and makes money off them. Nano Banana alone has changed advertising 2D mockups and Photoshop like tasks forever. Notice how GPT image 2 is now available also on a PAYG basis.
I work in advertising and some days I spent a lot of money using these models. The amount and rapidity of prototyping using them has changed everything about advertising pre production.
I meant to say Paul Newman was similarly married for decades to the same person.
Paul Newman I think. Same thing. He was also married to the same person for decades.
5 felt both smarter than me and dumber in some ways - it gets stuck to its original ideas. I had never seen a model harder to talk into changing its initial opinions. it continuously hedges.
Still survivorship bias. Those movies are curated! Well curated if you like them I might add.
Isnt Telegram barely encrypted anyway
Opus 4.6 remains unbeatable in my book. Fun to talk to. Fable felt very human. But not as fun.
I don’t understand why they’re doing this? Is extending the grid to their shiny new DC so expensive they’d rather build on top or right next to housing? Is it the water supply ? I don’t understand why someone would do something so clearly self defeating
Anthropic feels like a star trek computer, everything else feels like a machine - accurate but not really human like in its responses.
Wow. I’d never heard such a powerful and accurate analogy for what we’re doing.
This is I believe one of the markers for small fiber neuropathy which is now increasingly being found in association with long covid and related syndromes.
There are tests for it. SFN biopsy, tilt table, ETT.
I did see a doctor. I’m mid diagnosis / testing.
hopefully we will get somewhere with these studies. The lack of solid research on a disease that affects millions (likely a good percentage undiagnosed) is really tough for patients - and myself really, as I've found i likely suffer from this.
Finding out about autonomic dysfunction and small fiber neuropathy as I researched my own fatigue and finding out I likely have this has been very challenging.
A24 enforces a list of cinematographers you have to work with I believe.
Netflix enforces time-budget-nr of episodes per season and HDR tech spec requirements that seems to have lead to the single most recognisable “house style” in modern studios (a mix of tech specs and limited budgets I think).
So yes it’s possible.
You’re touching upon the very essence of being an actor, which is a form of shamanism of the human experience.
All societies I know of developed actors and forms of theatre. Why? Because they are essential, I suspect.
The thing is they seem to have taken Romero as a template vs an exceptional individual that might have required two people to duplicate in output (which is common).
Incarceration would be nuts.
Is it possible they are just falling behind ?
Their newest model wasn’t really SOTA. And honestly fable 5 was the most human like model I’d ever tried. It was an incredible jump.
And recently lots of Claude users at r/ClaudeAI are noticing Opus 4.8 has really increased in capability. Not new things but maybe redirected compute. It just feels like one of the best models ever, maybe because the compute that was previously assigned to Fable has been redirected? It feels incredible.
The minidisc was probably beautifully designed. I still have a player and some sample discs because I found them so beautiful. No wonder Ive and Jobs used to go “what would Sony do?” As a design round at early Apple 2.0
