Re:Roku developer repositories moved from GitHub to GitLab on Saturday October 31, 2026 @12:13AM (#50313146)
Couldn't this be done by wrapping a open source service around gitlab or a git interface for it so it could be done for free?
Re:Roku developer repositories moved from GitHub to GitLab on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:03PM (#50298993)
What makes those two features so important when using gitlab internally? Would Roku really need those features for its devs? To me they don't seem like things you worry about with normal Gitlab / Github anyways and all kinds of teams use it fine.
Re:Roku developer repositories moved from GitHub to GitLab on Sunday October 25, 2026 @11:36PM (#50238798)
Oh nice that $21 includes self hosting. The point we were talking about before was the difference between the two and gitlab can let companies host it for free.
Re:Roku developer repositories moved from GitHub to GitLab on Sunday October 25, 2026 @01:49AM (#50228716)
It doesn't say does it? For self-hosted commercial use? Wish either were open-source.
Re:Roku developer repositories moved from GitHub to GitLab on Saturday October 24, 2026 @11:44PM (#50228098)
Is it more expensive?
Re:Roku developer repositories moved from GitHub to GitLab on Saturday October 24, 2026 @02:41PM (#50223908)
Isn't being able to self host it on your company network a big important feature? Like for all the non-public branches and projects you keep internal. Gives you the same UX for everything.

This sounds pretty annoying though: https://docs.gitlab.com/administration/license_usage/

Re:The HTML-in-Canvas API origin trial on Friday October 23, 2026 @12:52PM (#50211955)
The solution was simple and always possible. It is to make it only work for same-origin content. Aka it can't work for ads or closed source external web content.
Re:We're addicted to social media. How do we get sober? on Friday October 23, 2026 @02:50AM (#50205294)
Are comment threads like this 'social media'? Do we need to get sober from reading other fellow people's opinions on information?

The new responsively-sized iframes standard is an exciting one for me not mentioned. It's finally a step beyond the original frames and framesets. It will let us design sites out of iframes as building blocks instead of needing to use web components. Websites made out of websites.
Re:William Gibson and the Trademarking of Cyberspace on Monday October 19, 2026 @03:52PM (#50157203)
After all these years they still haven't even recognized what they did was wrong so I think their summary was charitable.
Re:William Gibson and the Trademarking of Cyberspace on Monday October 19, 2026 @03:35PM (#50156978)
I agree with your anger. It sounds like they are actually proud of what they did yet it was 100% bad. They were stealing and threatening someone else's work without any justification and nothing about their story was an apology.
Re:William Gibson and the Trademarking of Cyberspace on Monday October 19, 2026 @01:17AM (#50148642)
The street is like nameless individuals. A corpo by contrast is the giant vertical sky-scrapers next to it. Total exact opposites. I don't see it as a clever joke when attached to a hostile trade-mark message. By using it in the opposite way from its actual meaning you embodied the entire antagonist cyberpunk corpo ethos in real life.
Re:William Gibson and the Trademarking of Cyberspace on Sunday October 18, 2026 @11:55PM (#50148207)
I'm glad it failed to trademark. Autodesk is one of the worst corpo's around when it comes to being corpo. How un self-aware for them to make that 'street' joke. They were like a 100+ million company back then.

Re:Claude discovers a novel enzyme system with CRISPR-like repeats on Thursday September 24, 2026 @10:29PM (#49839540)
Do you think these people also knew about all the other continents of Earth with other people on them? It seems possible to me it happened on one continent but seems unlikely they really knew about everyone at the time.

Re:Altman tells staff OpenAI is open to slowing AI development on Saturday September 12, 2026 @09:39AM (#49672211)
That's why treaties sound reasonable to me. Though I'd imagine they would be more like Climate Change ones. Before Iran there were bombings to stop nuclear arms. Imagine a country getting bombed because it's detected their building a data center.
Re:Altman tells staff OpenAI is open to slowing AI development on Saturday September 12, 2026 @09:01AM (#49671921)
Like a war or something? I can't think of a successful non-bad way for everyone to stop besides a treaty.

Interesting this has the exact same controls with slidy movement + space bar to stop. It seems likely Claude based it off of it and the other MIT game.
