> Give Claude Code a try...

Two days after they released their web interface for Claude Code I was hooked. Haven't really used the regular interface or the app since. Oh god, I'll never go back to copy-pasting code.

No. This is the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis and has, even in its weak form, been conisdered a dead end.

That said the culture (relegion and other stories) we live in completely drive our cognition.

Uhhh, this is amazing.

I wasn just listening to a breakcore mix to help me work and this isn't too far off from what I was just listening too.

Now all we need is a queue of style prompts to slide in and out of the player and I'd listen for hours.

I don't see enough detail here to really advise.

Please consider having fun with it or getting promoted over him.

Tried it, couldn't get into it. And this was when I was unemployed and living with my now wife. So, I had time galore.

It seems like a book you have to read cover to cover in one sitting to jam it all in your head.

Now, from what I recall I did chuckle a couple times. But other than that it was a big shrug-fest to me. Just couldn't muster a care.

I never thought I'd admit to such base and earthen attitude, nay vulgar. But there we are.

Ok, but why? Please excuse my ignorance, it's well earned. I haven't been in the web design space for over 20 years. So, seriously, like, what is this for?

Just so we can? For presenting a specific kind of information?

Re:Ask HN: Which book do you keep asking people to read? on Friday November 24, 2023 @06:14PM (#38409419)
"Permutation City": Greg Egan

"Godel Escher Bach" : Douglas Hofstadter

"...,in mice. "

It's in the title of the paper. No idea why it got trimmed from the post.

Sooo... completely centralized?

That's a hard no.

I briefly scanned through the whitepaper at:

https://haypenny.net/whitepaper.html

but couldn't find how it solved the Byzantine General's problem, transacting without a need for trust.

> As humans the physical world is OUR world, OUR element, OUR domain of expertise

Yea, and our tools are extensions of our bodies.

> Driving (and riding) is a special feeling

100% agree. I love driving, esp at night for long distances. It's almost religious. Even through not driving and age makes my ankles weak.

IMHO self driving cars I think need to get to the point where they're better than people to cut down on deaths. So, free municipal rides for drunks? Yes. But we can do that with taxis too.

Re:Ask HN: Is cell phone radiation still a concern in 2023? on Thursday September 14, 2023 @09:20PM (#37517008)
If it can't warm water how could it cause damage in a body? I'm not afraid of a candle, and that's emitting way more energy. Am I crazy?! Or stupid?
It certainly would. However, these are centuries long plans. A path along which the local issues will be solved.
Re:macOS users: what have you installed with brew? on Thursday September 07, 2023 @04:56PM (#37425464)
I could, but I won't. My mac laptop is 5 years in the closet and covered in a layer of dust. But it'd be a ton of stuff.
In 2001 there was text and plenty of it. However, there was no a/v streaming anything, no social media, no fast twitch multiplayer games, nothing honed to a sharp edge to slice away our attention.

I should have said "MY" internet connection was shit. I thought that was easily implied. I had dial up over a shared phone line. Additionally I convinced myself that there was nothing of entertainment value on the internet so I could get my work done.

Just realized I left out the important part, sorry...

I took on a job, the job of finding my next job. Woke up at 6/7 and got to work, took a short lunch then back again full tilt.

Sure, I wasn't perfect, no one is, and life keeps happening and we have to deal with that. But, you know, dead fucking serious 9-5 M-F. After that I could have feelings.

Re:Building a Useful Memory Palace? on Friday August 11, 2023 @01:15PM (#37091168)
I think I've trained myself to keep most important issues rather shallow and funnelled through my email. So, that's the bottle neck. I do often think "Wow, I'm doing some data forensics on myself, ha!" as I try to search for whatever address or number that I need in the stream of the last 20 years.

I do feel like Google will nail down that for Gmail pretty soon. Having a conversational search instead of the old style search bar. So, I guess, if you can get yours working first you might be able to sell it to them in a couple years (or less).

Re:Ask HN: Which math book(s) did you learn the most from? on Thursday August 10, 2023 @01:06PM (#37078760)
None. I learned the most from passionate and personable professors.

Comparing yourself to others?

Yea, that's not going to end well. Instead compare yourself to yourself in the past.

Re:A Room-Temperature Superconductor? New Developments on Thursday August 03, 2023 @05:03PM (#36991859)
true.

However the failure cases at those heights and velocities are far worse. There's several orders of magnitude difference between an airplane license and driving license.

If they're good interviewers (which happen at places you want to work at) they'll ask enough questions to suss out enough of your character that'll understand it to the depth that the "easy-going" dimension rests.
Just think of all the f-n idiots that got caught using ChatGPT without knowing its limitations. Like the reporter or lawyer that cited resources that don't exist due to hallucinations.

But yea, I gloss over all that shtie. It's insulting.
