How hard is it to find an aircraft carrier without resorting to this? Not saying there’s no privacy leak here but aircraft carriers are not exactly stealthy…
Surprisingly no mention of ESP soc’s. Mane esp boards easily replace both arduino and raspberry pi zero projects with a single board.

It makes me a little sad that there’s no mention of Raymond Carver in this thread. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_We_Talk_About_When_We_Tal... The current state of dominant mobile OS’s is about as bleak as the bleakest Carver story. Since I’m on a tangent I’ll also highly recommend the movie Shortcuts.

I wonder if the authors are aware of The Bitter Lesson

Never thought of this before, despite having read multiple books on godel and his first theorem. But I think you’re absolutely right - that a whole class of code injection attacks are variations of the liars paradox.

“Lumpers vs Splitters” is itself a splitting or a lumping?

Don't forget Gödel!
Your case is reinforced by clang's recent rise as a worthy alternative to gcc.

>It's not a lesson you should need to teach anyone. Perhaps most of us (the non-assholes?) learn this at such a young age that we don't even remember learning it. But I do believe, because I've seen it happen and done it myself, to varying degrees, that people CAN learn this later in life and change bad behavior (even if it's initially for superficial reasons like a desire to see a venture succeed).
Re:So, leboncoin.fr doesn't like my email alert webapp on Tuesday May 13, 2014 @07:44AM (#7737599)
For those who don't read French and don't wish to investigate too much, "leboncoin" (le bon coin) roughly means "the good neighborhood/hangout" (and literally means "the good corner") in French.

Of course. That makes perfect sense.

>A bubble can occur when speculators invest with the belief that a sucker will come along after them to buy the stock at a higher price.

This seems more of a requirement for ANY market - not just a bubble. Aside from fixed-income or high-dividend paying stocks, When would an investor ever buy a stock without the belief that someone else will eventually buy it for a higher price?

>You can rest assured of this as well: people will definitely submit to your contest--but none of them will be great designers, because all of them will be people who place the value of their work at somewhere around "maybe 500 dollars."

This would almost certainly be true if content participants had no connection to the business. In this case, participants my be considering their work to be pro-bono work with a value much greater $500.

Re:Facebook Premium on Sunday July 21, 2013 @03:33PM (#6079963)
I would look more to LinkedIn Premium or OKC which lets paying users see more about those in their network (like who's visiting their profile).
>It's totally preventable, and the lack of understanding of consequences is devastating. While the behavior that causes FAS is easy to stop for most women, for some segment of the population (those who are addicted to alcohol) it is seemingly impossible to eliminate or moderate alcohol consumption for even 1 week, let alone 9 months. The success of preventing FAS should correlate directly to advances in treating alcohol addiction.

It's charitable to say that the title is a bit disingenuous. I agree that the story (as well as the ongoing discussion) is very much worth reading. The unnecessarily provocative title is only slightly distracting.

Buried beneath the snarkiness, the implied constructive criticism might be along the lines of "don't re-invent the wheel, kid". I looked at Heather's code. It seems pretty tight to me.

>>This isn't really about taking from the big, bad corporations. It's about taking from your neighbor. It would be great if we had in-air broadband, but until that day, we'll have to find some way to regulate the use of a limited resource to prevent it from becoming over-saturated. If GoGo allows this to continue, it's also about them not prioritizing their customer experience very highly. I've long felt that they should be tuning their firewall to eliminate or minimize unneccessary traffic. I'm not sure what their SLAs are but I've flown enough to know that on any full daytime flight, the intertubes feel very full. If, for example, 1/4 of the passengers forget to put their mobile devices in airplane mode and their devices are conversing google services the entire flight (even though they never purchased or activated GoGo) that alone will likely gobble up a noticeable portion of bandwidth.
Re:Extraordinary support? You’d better blow my mind. on Friday January 04, 2013 @09:47AM (#5007799)
Not fair. The essence of the rant is that PayLane overpromised and underdelivered. That's a very key takeaway and there's a lesson there that applies EVERYWHERE.
