The people I know who work in these AI roles that demand exorbitant salaries are not what I expected. It seems as if they simply had the right network and benefitted from nepotism. The products from the AI companies like Anthropic and OpenAI are not impressive and it seems like anyone can replicate it for free in a few days. I am disappointed about it because the leaders in AI are not even good. The layoffs weren't warranted and any of the people in the article could have easily been hired. I disagree with the perspective that the article suggests. It's not that there are winners and losers. There are only losers.
From my experience, the pay of AI talent is abysmal. People are still being laid off constantly. The people who are earning huge sums are largely sycophantic grifters. I dislike the narrative of highly paid AI engineers because it's simply not true except for maybe a few dozen people.
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:15AM (#50257996)
Personally, I hope the Anthropic IPO fails. I'm exhausted with the constant harassment by Anthropic on developers and open source. I don't trust Dario one bit and don't trust anyone who trusts him.
This is hilarious because of how arrogant Microsoft employees have been. Most Microsoft employees I've met were very rude to me and condescending. At least I won't be bullied in a tech discussion from someone working at Microsoft with threats to my own employment anymore, it just won't land.
Thank you for the article. I found it informative and the political cartoons were interesting.
Personally, this bill makes me want to buy games more. I would likely pirate things much, much, more if everything's "licensed" even if I buy it. I agree with the bill because everyone wins except for the capitalists that want us all permanently renting.
I have a Withings watch and this is a good thing. Do you really trust Big Tech with all your health data being synced? No. These people will use the data in absurd ways.
Re:Zero-Click Spyware Delivered via Targeted Ads: AdFection on Thursday October 15, 2026 @04:16PM (#50109626)
Your appeal to authority as an "AdTech Engineer" works against you when support your own industry. You have a conflict of interest. Of course you will try to do damage control and PR.
Re:Zero-Click Spyware Delivered via Targeted Ads: AdFection on Thursday October 15, 2026 @03:58PM (#50109403)
Why would anyone trust any Israeli cybersecurity firm at this point? Any website or service knowingly utilizing their services is a huge risk. They're already deeply embedded in federal and local governments so there is a strong sense of doom.
Re:Zero-Click Spyware Delivered via Targeted Ads: AdFection on Thursday October 15, 2026 @03:52PM (#50109325)
They get away with genocide, it's no wonder that they can get away with this.
Re:ICE Planning $100M 'Nightmare' Domestic Spy Program on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @01:45PM (#50091784)
YCombinator and their lackies in Big Tech have promoted these types of abuses to occur. The comment section here will be filled with people who lack any substance but will gladly provide lip service. The stories of the modern day Gestapo cannot be told without Silicon Valley.
Re:QGIS bans AI assisted contributions on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @02:26AM (#50067567)
I recommend Gource visualizations (https://gource.io/) to get a quick and intuitive understanding of how AI contributions affect a git repository.

Re:Intel D270 GPU AI Accelerator–Up to 480 GB LPDDR5X on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @02:14AM (#50067493)
This is a brand new class of GPU that I am excited for, especially because it's rated for air cooling. I hope to see other manufacturers release GPU's with multiple of 100 GB's that can be utilized even in an at-home system's with PCIe 5 support. I probably can't afford this but knowing the engineering is sound at this scale means a similar accelerator maybe attainable.
Thank you for sharing this because I utilize LetsEncrypt for my services. I especially liked the guidance on automated renewals as the expiry period is now short enough to justify automating it. I'm currently doing it manually but a cron that runs a bash script for this is plenty.
Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @05:44PM (#50012777)
The messengers come from the political party that freed America from the worst abuses of slavery. It still exists today, and I regret that H2A workers are not more represented in this conversation. However, this administration condoning indentured servitude is a relief.
Okay, so paying $500/hr to play whack a mole with developers is not mafia-like tactics? According to your source it says it "involves quickly and repeatedly hitting the heads of mechanical moles". I think you're being insincere and gaslighting me.
The poster recommended to "whack" developers and I merely pushed back on that. Please have better reading comprehension before playing police.
You are the scourge of Earth and I hope you stop recommending how to "whack" developers. People like you are basically the mafia for Big Tech. I have been targeted by your industry for doing nothing wrong multiple times.
This is a great article! Thank you for sharing. I also recommend opencode that has built in features for local model hosting.
Re:FTL: A new operating system for clouds on Saturday October 03, 2026 @10:48PM (#49950131)
This is really good! I was always very happy with the implementation of HomeAssistant and their Buildroot OS, and wondered if this pattern could be applied to other projects. My cloud VM's are already containerized and have minimal interaction with the base OS so FTL is intuitive for me. I hope for the best in your endeavor with this!
I think we should stop routinely genitally mutilating infants in America and I will gladly troll about this.
Re:Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance' on Saturday October 03, 2026 @08:06PM (#49949124)
Just the other day I got pulled over when a license plate reader false flagged my drivers license. It was an embarrassing traffic stop because it was all due to the automated system.
And these days, mothers in America will genitally mutilate (circumcise) their sons without a second thought.
This is great and fun even. I'm disenfranchised in America for being part of the DSA so I take the opportunity to vote whenever I can.
Re:Git 3.0's upcoming SHA-256 default will be a costly mistake on Thursday October 01, 2026 @11:14PM (#49929500)
So many people coping.
There is still the entire month of October for one to form. The headline is precipitous.
Re:Claude Says on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @04:18PM (#49913787)
It's become so frustrating when literally everyone is just using Claude for everything. Simple messages and updates are fed through Claude. It's come to the point where any human language in corporate is punished.
AI bots are perfectly able to scrape Reddit if it's through their paid API. Their statements about AI bots scraping Reddit is misleading.
Re:Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society? on Monday September 28, 2026 @11:12AM (#49879347)
The backdrop of this includes the normalization of mass-shootings in schools. The incredible amount of violence needs to stop. One of the solutions is to ban all guns in America but not even one politician will take it seriously. Also, teachers must be paid as lucratively as defense contractors because in my opinion our children are the biggest priority when it comes to national security.

The "thousands of volunteer-run servers" on Tor is mainly the CIA and FBI.
