Re:What I love about Django on Thursday August 06, 2026 @06:07AM (#49194715)
The ORM is really not good in my opinion because it is ActiveRecord'ish and has all its downsides. I wouldn't use Django for any moderately complex domain. But even with simpler CRUD style apps I don't really see the point in it.

Re:Django 6 Released on Tuesday December 09, 2025 @05:14PM (#46211469)
Both Laravel and Django use Active Record, great for CRUD but I have yet to see a project where it worked with more complex domains.
Re:Django 6 Released on Tuesday December 09, 2025 @05:11PM (#46211437)
Great for simple CRUD apps but it falls apart with more complex enterprise requirements.
Well I guess that's good bye Pixel and Android for me then.
Would be great if I could use it with my 6700k.
Re:The Monster Inside ChatGPT on Friday June 27, 2025 @11:32AM (#44397588)
I managed to cook up a fairly useful meta prompt but a byproduct of it is that ChatGPT now routinely makes clearly illegal or ethical dubious proposals.

It's not.
Oxford, Cambridge, ETHZ, EPFL, etc. are probably salivating right now.
Insane how freely the US is giving away its status as a brain drain magnet (context: I'm European).
Re:Protecting NATS and the integrity of open source on Friday April 25, 2025 @06:50PM (#43799230)
That doesn't provide that much clarity to me (a user of NATS).
Active Record leads to a big ball of mud.

A lot pythonistas who only know Django have no idea that there other ways of building web apps.

Isn't this just fraud?

The main problem is that no one uses the word (which is already not well known) outside of the road context.

Look, you just end up normalizing Nazism. One of many small actions that add up.

Watch this at 00:35. Debunks your entire point about "the look" with Hitler doing the salute exactly as Musk did it.

I'm from Switzerland / Swiss German and maybe we just watched way more WW2 docs in high school and had more exposure to the various ways a Nazi salute can be done, but across the German speaking sphere we all saw this as a Nazi salute. In this variation it was often done with hand on breast during "Sieg!" and then the extension with "Heil!".

Re:Did Elon Musk Appear to Sieg Heil at Trump Inauguration? on Tuesday January 21, 2025 @02:35PM (#42784324)
You are not allowing a broader discussion on this by having it flagged. I asked you how a discussion on ethics and symbolism doesn't fall under "intellectual curiosity" in a other reply. It's difficult to not come to the conclusion that you support Elon Musk and approve of his behavior. Calling it "celebrity trolling" is the cherry on top.

On Elon Musk:

- By most measures one of the richest and most influential persons in the world

- Owner of X

- OG member of the PayPal mafia

- Spent millions on Trump's election

- Official member of the new administration

- Makes two (not one) Nazi salutes on public television

But no, discussing what this means or implies does not satisfy one's intellectual curiosity.

Re:Did Elon Musk Appear to Sieg Heil at Trump Inauguration? on Tuesday January 21, 2025 @04:34AM (#42778064)
How does a discussion about ethics and symbolism not fall under intellectual curiosity?
Re:Did Elon Musk Appear to Sieg Heil at Trump Inauguration? on Tuesday January 21, 2025 @04:28AM (#42778032)
Elon Musk makes the Nazi salute twice in a row. HN: Nothing to see here.

Yes, and while a little bit better, I think it's still quite bad.
Given the number of poor product managers and product owners I've encountered in my career - those who don't seem to care at all about end users or people in general - I'm surprised incidents like this don't happen more frequently.
I mean, I personally don't expect much from the creative machine that brought us Rings Of Power.

Re:Django and Postgres for the Busy Rails Developer on Wednesday December 11, 2024 @03:39PM (#42392691)
I mean there is a clear difference in how ORMs that use the data mapper pattern like Hibernate or Entity Framework etc. ultimately allow for a cleaner overall application architecture vis-a-vis ActiveRecord (the pattern) which usually ends up leaking throughout the entire application.
Re:Django and Postgres for the Busy Rails Developer on Wednesday December 11, 2024 @03:13PM (#42392352)
I have yet to see a software project where ActiveRecordish ORMs did not end up making the modelling of business processes and translation of use cases into code overly messy and complicated, Rails or Django.
