News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

kitanata

No. Hacker News and its community ruined the internet. That is the hard truth, but it is the truth. We are responsible for the enshittification and decline of the internet. How many of you work for Meta again? Hmm.
Uggh. Look an armchair unqualified and outrage opinion by someone on Hacker News who has no idea what they are talking about.

Look up febrile seizure. Every parent know them. The recommendation by most doctors is to only bring in your child if their fever reaches 104, which he did.

You know what almost all new parents do? They bring their kids to the doctors at the slightest sign of trouble. You know what happens the first few times you do this? The doctors tell you to stop and they tell you you are over reacting.

If you were a parent, you’d know that.

Here is an uncomfortable truth. This man is in prison because of ableism.

This is why body language “experts” are grifters and charlatans.

This is why you shouldn’t convict people on a hunch, and why as a professional you don’t say shit you are unqualified to say.

Ableism kills.

I’m going to attempt to respond. I emailed HN asking my account to be deleted. HN staff refused. I followed your official process for account removal and deletion and I got told to take a hike.

Anyone from HN saying I did not make a formal request is lying! Delete my data at once!

Edit: look ma! I’ve been unbanned! Listen HN mods. I’m cool with a ban. Just delete my data first.

Edit 2: (looks like I’m kinda banned again IDK) Lol. Please delete all my comments, posts and account dang. I don’t want to be here anymore and I feel trapped. Please just delete my data. Please!!!

Hacker News does not allow users to delete comments. Your comments are trapped here forever. If you ask them to delete your comments they will not. If you ask them to delete your account, they will not.

We have the right to be forgotten, and Hacker News is in ongoing violation of those rights.

Call Congress and demand data protection laws that protect all of us. No company should be allowed to keep our data forever, especially if we decide to withdraw our consent.

Take back your rights. Take back your data. Delete the algorithm.

Jesus. I’m the OP who brought up data protection in the first place. I would never dare to compare data privacy to the Holocaust. Holy shit that is… anti-Semitic beyond belief.

Data privacy matters, but uh… comparing that to the Holocaust is not okay. The murder of millions of innocent people cannot remotely compare. Shame on anyone who tries.

People like you are why I am erasing everything I can about me from the internet. Your perspective is psychopathic and frankly terrifying.
Uggh. No.

When I need to make legal arguments, I’ll do that in court in front of a judge when I sue this website for violation of data privacy laws.

You are wrong and you are not a lawyer. I hereby deny you the platform to continue to spread misinformation and lies about people’s right to privacy.

Go away.

Is that what I am doing? Telling you, you can’t remember me? Or am I just asking that an Internet forum I’ve contributed to for years comply with basic standards around data privacy and protection for its users?

You are welcome to use your organic brain that God gave you to remember me. I even think it’s a bit cute and kind to do that.

You are not welcome however, to compile data on me and refuse to comply with data protection laws.

Equating the two is uhh… well intellectually dishonest at best but I suppose you’re still waiting on that lottery ticket to hit and so are a bit afraid to tell the VCs this isn’t okay anymore.

We have a right to have our data deleted. Pure and simple.

This information is publicly available on the CCPA and GDPR websites. There are exceptions to erasure. Forum comments are not one of them. Hacker News is in violation of both the CCPA and the GDPR.
Ummm no… the California Consumer Privacy Act and the GDPR did that. I’m just demanding that Hacker News comply with the law. That’s all. :)

You can disagree with these laws all you want, but they are the law and Hacker News is bound to them.

I am references the rules of society, and despite whatever legal nonsense HN wants to say they can do, the fact remains both California and the entire EU has the right to be forgotten and the right to erasure as a matter of law.

Hacker News is not entitled to break the law. Hacker News is not entitled to violate the data protection and privacy rights of its users.

“I want to continue to violate your rights, so if you could just shut up and sit down that would be great…”

Nah.

You find it shocking that someone would data mine HN for comments to train AI models?

Bro… where have you been for the last 5 years? Are you paying any attention at all?

That is an outcome I am hoping for. Of course, if my comments remain and they just lock my account… we’ll that’s when the real spam will start… followed not long after by a a long and lengthy conversation with folks in congress.

I hear they have their sights set on tech. I’m sure exposing the startup world’s primary forum and community center’s violation of GDPR and other data protection laws so blantantly would be rather inconvenient to YC, wouldn’t it?

But I’ll take an account ban if it means my comment history goes too. That is what I am asking for, after all. :)

Hacker News seems to be having lots of problems with the concept of “consent” lately, doesn’t it Paul Graham?

The rules changed the moment HN started training models on our data. Everyone here has the right to withdraw their consent Paul, especially now.

Let us delete our data!

Seems a bit perverse, doesn’t it?

I have a right to have my data deleted from this platform. Hacker News has repeatedly refused to delete my comment history from the site.

We have a right to erasure.

Nah. My next step is talking to senators and exposing how everyone here is training on everyone’s data without their permission.

I’m going to take away your toys.

We have the right to say no, and walk away from the algorithm. All of us have that right.

Trapping anyone against their will on a forum, when they have withdrawn consent to their data is evil. Anyone who supports that it evil.

You have a right to your data. You have a right to delete your data. You have a right to be forgotten.

I contacted them. They outright refused to delete any comments, all comments or my entire account. Hacker News by matter of policy WILL NOT delete your comments, even when requested in writing.

I do not want to change my username. I want to delete MY comments and MY account.

I don’t care if this “breaks your database” or not. It wasn’t a problem for LinkedIn to delete my account and data. It wasn’t a problem for Twitter. It wasn’t a problem for Facebook.

Why is it a problem for you?

Delete my comments, then delete my account. All of it. Not just a rename.

I was here. I contributed for a bit. Now I want to leave, and I don’t want any part of me to stay.

Delete it all, now.
