Ah, okay. Yeah, that's about the only way I've seen them fit jeans. Sorry to disappoint.
Re:Show HN: Famous Outfits on Thursday September 04, 2014 @10:32PM (#8272026)
> at the uniqlo, i may try going to their jeans section, but nothing fits me, nothing

you don't get your pants fitted at uniqlo? it's free and only takes 30 minutes or so.

freenode in general isn't a very friendly place :/

that said, i think #clojure and #reactjs are fairly friendly and helpful to questions, even the most basic ones.

I paid the $5 because the sales pitch is so convincing -- "for the price of a burrito, you can get a job" (and so I did pay for this and I did get a new job!)

edit: back when I used this in Feb, I constantly got logged out and had to log back (was using G+ logins). Did this get fixed?

The best part about the Mac client is that it stops me from shutting down my computer (have to mash op-com-esc each time I forget to try to kill lync before shutdown)
the logo looks almost exactly like the scala-lang logo
Re:ZeroMQ is just sockets on Friday November 15, 2013 @02:32PM (#6741581)
i find that there are at least a couple dozen issues/defects that haven't been addressed, and it doesn't seem like they're going to be
Re:ZeroMQ is just sockets on Friday November 15, 2013 @09:00AM (#6739407)
been looking into this recently. it seems like a lot of the bindings haven't been maintained in 2+ years, but the pure java implementation JeroMQ is very active and convenient to use (https://github.com/zeromq/jeromq)

the name reminds me of jero, the american-born enka singer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ba9rKhVAz80)

i'm not entirely sure if i personally could come up with a good usage for zmq though, unless i were going through tons of data from sources like social media or scientific experimentation

Could you add comma formatting for the mouseover bubble numbers?
Re:Continuing the Windows 8 vision with Windows 8.1 on Thursday May 30, 2013 @09:47AM (#5792428)
under the section "PC Settings" seems to a description for being able to actually use the settings screen in your start menu that will reflect between your start menu and desktop? i've been waiting for this... my start menu will be in japanese even though i set my default keyboard to english and try to set all the language settings to english, so that i'm stuck with a stupid half english/japanese environment. even now, sometimes it's a toss-up whether or not i get english or japanese labels for start menu apps like Skype and my weather and mail apps seem to be permanently named 天気 and メール. i can't even search those using hiragana or romanized phonetics, ugh. maybe this wouldn't be a problem if i weren't practically illiterate.

also, if i ever log in to windows 8 without waiting something like a minute, i always get boxes from something not working right when in some of the start menu screens and when trying to type things in with any IME. see: http://i.imgur.com/78SNnpB.png

sorry that my post turned into one big complaint. hopefully someone will show me some very simple fixes to my problems!

Re:A new Gmail inbox on Wednesday May 29, 2013 @04:55PM (#5789015)
I prefer shift+C since it makes Chrome pop up a separate window (I like alt-tabbing to reference when writing e-mails... maybe that's just me)
Re:Meet Runscope on Wednesday May 22, 2013 @02:14PM (#5752722)
maybe i'm the only person who would complain about this, but is that a 588KB GIF? sometimes my home internet gets so bad i get 10KB/s[1], and i live in america...

Re:Youtube hasn't had dislikes for 2 days on Thursday May 02, 2013 @07:02PM (#5647753)
in my case i still have dislikes in my videos, but i'm subscribed to videos with very low viewcounts anyways (a week-old video will only get 200-800 views in most of the videos in my subs)
Re:How to share your data effectively on Monday April 08, 2013 @04:25PM (#5514321)
yeah, i was just wondering why the author kind of explicitly recommended against using white space when most parsers (including MS excel in my experience) handle white space encapsulated in quotes just fine
Re:How to share your data effectively on Monday April 08, 2013 @03:53PM (#5514086)
Maybe it's a naive question, but why shouldn't you use quotes to encapsulate things that are meant to be text so that you can catch things like white space?

Also that do people use formats other than comma and tab delimited?

My own experience with CSV is dealing with my own data and instrument readouts (which are mostly always tab delimited with a header section) so I don't know.

Well, I really can't blame anyone but STEAM for this. They don't have APIs for anything other than stupid TF2/Dota2 things so it's no wonder that people scrape their pages every day.
How are you getting users' game lists? Are you using id/user/games?tab=all&xml=1 or something like that?

A while ago STEAM was rate limiting me to somewhere between 8-15 seconds (503's returned in between). Have you run into this at all on your end?

Re:GNOME 3.8 Released on Wednesday March 27, 2013 @05:07PM (#5452019)
people are often rosy-eyed about things they used first/most so they often think things are nicer than they really are.

i remember for the longest time i thought my time with dwm were some of the nicest and yearned for tiling wm's in windows, but after trying it again i'm really glad i switched to win vista/7.

Re:Browser Wars Revisited on Friday March 22, 2013 @10:58AM (#5423289)
Tampermonkey felt really clunky and just randomly didn't trigger my scripts. Also it was ugly.

Good on the guys who develop it though. I really didn't see any feasible alternatives for userscript management.

Re:Browser Wars Revisited on Friday March 22, 2013 @10:14AM (#5422996)
I switched from Chrome to Firefox... tab groups, the extensions available, and actually being able to save and sync my search keywords across computers (instead of being stuck with a 2 yr old settings) are some big features for me.

Oh, also that Greasemonkey itself is very easy to use.

I might consider trying out Opera again in the future, since its mouse gestures are very responsive and the interface looks nice (to me). However, lots of web pages didn't render properly for me the last time I used it (3+ yrs ago)

Re:Web Scraping 101 with Python on Sunday March 10, 2013 @06:04PM (#5353690)
PyQuery seems to always be faster in my experience than BS4 (for ripping the same information). Anyone else have a similar experience?
Re:Programming is not a Glamorous Job on Saturday March 02, 2013 @11:39AM (#5309986)
"Most of us are indie programmers"

I would think most career programmers work for corporate entities, but neither I nor the author have any statistical evidence presented.

Re:25 Years to Mac - How Ubuntu Pushed Me Away from the PC on Saturday February 23, 2013 @12:39PM (#5270538)
Sorry, I tend to be lazy and just group the whole Ubuntu environment UX as "Unity"

I do own an iPad and Mac Mini that I received as gifts, but I find them pretty unbearable to use outside of specific tasks (i.e. watching Youtube videos).

There is some OSX software that I like, such as Adium, SublimeText, and the default screencap tool, but I find the environment kind of annoying to work with and have a much easier time with Windows 7/8.

Overall, I give up just too much convenience and software (like MPC-HC, video games, driver support for appliances and game controllers, easy win-key + P,arrow keys,D,E,R,C,X) to be able to switch to OSX. Also that I value being able to swap out hardware and paying less for hardware in general (even if Macs often have sleek cases).

Re:25 Years to Mac - How Ubuntu Pushed Me Away from the PC on Saturday February 23, 2013 @12:07PM (#5270352)
"I bet this article about how awful Unity is"

Yep.

Does Unity make me want to buy hardware that's hard to upgrade (save for buying a whole new machine) and make me want to abandon a host of software that I use regularly?

Nope.

edit: I very much enjoy using some proprietary software though. Windows 8, SublimeText, etc. If people want that kind of proprietary support for their Linux-like environment, it certainly seems like OSX is the only real solution atm, especially for people who can't be bothered to go do everything themselves (like me).

I know some people might brand people who pay for software as "casual scum" and whatnot, but I'm willing to trade my money for time and ease of use. I didn't mean to be a dick to the OP and certainly can understand why he would move away from a platform.

However, not going to Debian/Mint/any other alternative and just choosing to dump thousands of dollars for a new environment is something I would not do personally.

Re:Microsoft Looking At Office For Linux In 2014 on Wednesday February 06, 2013 @02:02PM (#5178141)
I personally haven't found any WYSIWYG equation editors that are nearly as fast, easy to edit, and good looking at the built-in MathType/MS Word equation editor.

If anyone has suggestions for LO plug-ins or other free software, let me know.
