Not if environment and other players are rendered on the server.
What if you render a spherical view from player's standpoint on a server and then merge it with locally rendered hud + weapon? The biggest source of cheating is that your pc knows the position of other players, only rendering your local state locally would make this kind of cheats impossible while maintaining ms-level response to actions like shooting and looking around (moving has a lot of inertia anyway).
Even in an online FPS all your inputs need to be sent to a server running the game logic so what you're seeing is not an actual state of the game but rather the predicted one. I think it would make sense to have a competetive game run all it's logic and rendering on a single machine for all the players in a given match so that it works a bit like a split-screen - the only difference being that instead of showing it on a single combined screen it would send those screens to remote players. This way a lot of problems with latency and movement prediction would be gone. Also cheating would be impossible which is a good enough reason to do it on it's own.

My Casio F91W has 7+ years. AW are much more capable devices than Garmins, both when it comes to compute and screen - it's understandable they use more power.

Fitness tracking, accident detection and not needing to take your phone with you because you can still use your watch in case of emergency (if you have cellular connection).
That's why we should be advocating for more research into SAI, but the reality is we will do it anyway when situation gets bad enough. Global warming has happened and will get only worse, if we ignore the possibility of geoengineering we risk losing not only human lives but also a lot of biodiversity after ecosystems collapse.
When the alternative is failing crops and hot bulb events - it will happen eventually. We did this for over 100 years btw., just as a by-product of burning fossil fuels. Cleaner technologies and air pollution regulations have unmasked real global warming scale in northern hemisphere.
It's far easier to start doing stratospheric aerosol injection than to stop burning fossil fuels.
I'd rather keep my warranty.

I was happy to confirm my suspicion that the author is polish and the name is indeed a pun (piwko being a small beer in polish).
You should look up how much NATO members in Europe were spending on defense during the Cold War.
I wonder what makes EU so wealthy to just buy stuff everywhere - maybe it's the export of high-end technologies inaccessible to US and China?
"are we the baddies?"

Europe is not a single entity, it's mainly the German politicians that ignored the problem.

By some weird accident they stop being that expensive and long to build when you cross the border into China.
Varia can supplement bike mirrors with an early warning that a vehicle is approaching. Some people don't like bike mirrors (they look dorky), but personally I feel half-blind when cycling without a mirror.

Stable 60Hz is still preferable to stuttery 120Hz.
Re:Mistakes Microsoft made in the Xbox security system on Friday July 18, 2025 @03:38AM (#44602215)
That Xbox One exploit is quite funny, it relies on delisted Game Script app that uses Ape programming language made by me and submitted here on HN a few years back.
6502? Luxury! In my times you were lucky to have a processor.
I went over "Writing an Interpreter in Go" and "Writing a Compiler in Go" but instead of doing it in Go, I did it in C. In hindsight it was a very good decision, because it forced me to write the code myself, instead of mindlessly copying it. After finishing the books I've spent some time extending the compiler I've written and I've published it on github (https://github.com/kgabis/ape). I've read Bob Nystrom's previous book, so I'm sure Crafting Interpreters is great as well, but I really recommend Writing an Interpreter/Compiler in Go.
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (February 2025) on Monday February 24, 2025 @03:59AM (#43157287)
An iphone todo app that's tailored for my needs and motivates me to commit to completing some amount of small tasks every day (even if it's just a single "rest and relax" task). Currently I'm building a prototype with SwiftUI and SwiftData and I'm struggling to comprehend why Apple is ditching Objective-C. Compared to my previous experience writing and publishing an iphone app, everything now feels much worse with Swift's ridiculous compile times and non-descriptive compile errors.

This article is based on false premise: he was not arrested, only escorted by police to a parliamentary commission hearing.
LCOE doesn't make much sense when you think about it. It doesn't include storage necessary for intermittent energy sources, nor grid costs. It also doesn't account for how much variation there is in renewable potential geographically - 1 solar panel produces far less electricity in Poland than it would produce in Spain.
It's only 75Hz. Why can't they make a decent pro monitor with a reasonable refresh rate?
Re:AI is exhausting the power grid on Friday June 21, 2024 @08:22AM (#40748854)
Apparently not much.
Considering it's lifespan and low external costs (like grid extension and energy storage for renewables) - it is cheap. What makes it expensive is politics.
Definitely, cheap and predictable energy would be fatal for Australian economy.
Population of European Russia is ~110 million people so a bit more than Germany.
Shameless plug, but some time ago I've created a language where the main design goal was for it to be easy to use and embed: https://github.com/kgabis/ape.
