Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (March 2020) on Saturday March 14, 2020 @07:09PM (#22579477)
Given the nature of your product, it’s surprising that the open positions are onsite only.

No opium is the new opium
Re:Building Spotify’s New Web Player on Wednesday April 03, 2019 @08:03PM (#19568282)
[In which Spotify doesn't actually explain what they did to build the new web player]
Which ones do?
Re:Ask HN: What VPN service are you currently using? on Monday February 25, 2019 @09:51AM (#19245981)
Nice try, NSA.
Re:Reddit Transparency Report 2018 on Wednesday February 13, 2019 @06:39PM (#19158267)
I must be looking at this incorrectly. I don’t see ‘Requests from Reddit Investors’ listed anywhere.

Not even with a custom DNS or VPN?

Re:How to Find Hidden Cameras and Spy Gear on Wednesday January 16, 2019 @10:16PM (#18928036)
They know when you come and go by your key card. I was in a hotel recently in which the elevator would only move if you swiped your key card _and_ chose your floor—no other floor, even the lobby.

Small price to pay in today’s society. These surveillance devices and storage are only going to get less expensive, and easier to conceal.

For a reason.
Re:HCL buys Notes from IBM on Friday December 07, 2018 @10:21AM (#18628348)
Very few people know this, even inside of IBM:

Notes is literally an Eclipse plugin.

There. Now you can really hate it and feel totally justified.

Re:Announcing Open Source of WPF, Windows Forms, and WinUI on Tuesday December 04, 2018 @12:37PM (#18601611)
Exactly my point. If it were open source, that work would have been fractioned.
Re:Announcing Open Source of WPF, Windows Forms, and WinUI on Tuesday December 04, 2018 @11:59AM (#18601204)
Can you imagine how much work and exploit patching could have been avoided in the last 30 years?
Re:Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 iOS app on Tuesday November 13, 2018 @09:38AM (#18441225)
I want to believe this is a good thing, but I can’t get that whole “we block Tor users” campaign out of my mind.
Re:Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 iOS app on Tuesday November 13, 2018 @09:37AM (#18441215)
According to a comment on ProductHunt:

Re:Paper Airplane Designs on Thursday October 18, 2018 @02:22PM (#18250763)
I have had this bookmarked on my phone for years, so I can pull it up every time one of my kids asks me to make one. :)
Re:Tor Browser 8.0 released on Thursday September 06, 2018 @11:38AM (#17927027)
They put the details here: https://3g2upl4pq6kufc4m.onion (looks like it only works on the "Tor Browser updated" page, though. You can find the button in the location bar by clicking the icon to the left of the address, or in `about: tor`
I was _just_ reading about this at http://input.fontbureau.com/info/
And this is worth the distinction, why?
Re:Schlitterbahn’s Tragic Slide on Saturday July 21, 2018 @11:58PM (#17585212)
Is this supposed to mean something?
> We find that it REALLY helps us minimize meetings and email/Slack since we can quickly turn to the person we need

So, it's an all-day, unpredictable meeting?

Oh man.

[Enterprise PTSD intensifies]

This is one of the oldest companies in existence. It is hardly on its last legs.

Also, patents are a huge revenue stream at IBM. Always have been. However, that merely makes them the original patent troll. :)

That's interesting. I hadn't considering the cultural aspect in the context of icons. It's often a frame of reference when color is being decided, but icons—that's a good one. Thanks for expanding my brain here.
If I may, I wrote something a few years ago about why flat design is detrimental to user experience. A lot of folks have told me that they've found it helpful in gaining some perspective.

The thing is, what's stopping employees from uploading files to a server? The physical devices are a fraction of a fraction of IP theft. Hence the term "theatre".
Right. Even when you're on a campus and not on the employee SSID, you need to VPN in.
Just another act of IBM's security theatre, and a testament to their backwards views on employee experience.
