Re:Python has had async for 10 years – why isn't it more popular?
on Tuesday September 02, 2025 @01:56PM (#45106686)
The two api issue basically means async is not backwards compatible. You can't just squeeze some async into an existing code base, You'd need new functions, libraries etc. You'd basically need to rewrite the entire codebase in async to see an ounce of perf improvements.

because its a regression. WFH is better for a lot of folks. It saves time and money. Being forced back to office is like taking a pay cut as well as wastes 2 hours each day.

40 a week on unemployment for low wage in CA
Re:Should people who quit get unemployment benefits, too?
on Wednesday June 26, 2024 @10:14AM (#40800331)
Low wage jobs only net you $40 a week. Thats $160 a month. Even if you pay no income tax, try living on $160 a month in any where America. Thats barely enough to pay for groceries for a single person for a month.
Re:Should people who quit get unemployment benefits, too?
on Wednesday June 26, 2024 @10:05AM (#40800219)
No one is quitting their job to just be on unemployment. Unemployment benefit is funded by unemployment tax on both corporations and individuals. The unemployment benefit for CA is $40 to $450 per week. (You still have to pay income tax on that) Its much lower in conservative states. Its enough to smooth things out but not enough to live off of, you are still going to be digging into savings. Additionally you have to provide proof that you are looking for jobs ever week. Its not like I can take a holiday in europe and still collect.

Should get unemployment if you dont have a job and are actively looking for one.

The winner is just nvidia, I see this like the battle of gas vs electric cars. Nvidia is basically making the wheels. whichever company wins, you'd still need wheels.

Meta is desperate to get devs to develop apps on their platform. It is the only way to get more interest in VR. Devs dont want to be on it because there are no customers, consumers don't want it because there's no apps. They've been trying to market it hard but nothing has worked. They tried to brand it as a fitness device, a work device, and a game device, but the consumers are not biting.

wow it looks horrible. did their "AI" got the eclipse location wrong? April 8th was over NA but the AI said that the ideal location was in Australia?
The interaction is awful. you have to touch it to operate it via voice commands? that means you cant use it in public. There's also a notification light? how is someone wearing it on their chest supposed to see that? I dont think this is a scam for the consumer, because no one in their right minds is going to watch this and want one. They are just cashing in on the AI crazy happening right now.

you are not going to defer on everyday necessities, but you can defer on big item purchases. If you are in the market for an EV, and the report is that EV's are getting cheaper every year. You may just defer that purchase as long as you can. If you are in the market for a house and the report is that housing prices are increasing by 10% every year, you regret not buying that house yesterday.

wages not rising contributes to lower inflation. If prices fall, thats deflation, arguably worse than inflation. When prices fall, people stop buying in anticipation of prices falling further. When people dont buy, economy basically stops.

Before only "dumb" people gets fallen into the trap. Its like getting scammed by a Nigerian "prince" scam. Now its much harder to tell apart fake and real. Pictures and videos can be AI generated so potentially you could be sold on an event that didn't happen. Or you can be convinced a real event was fake. It would be much easier to assume all footage of 9/11 was AI generated and fake because its unfathomable to think 2 planes actually flew into those buildings.
