More like the control group for ending ending an aerosol geoengineering experiment.
It’s methamphetamine induced.

There isn’t any time for this in a 500 person public university classroom.
Re:My class required AI. Here's what I've learned so far on Monday February 20, 2023 @12:45PM (#34870573)
The kids are definitely going to have a lack of critical thinking skills. But the cat is out of the bag. If I think back to my days in university, I would have definitely used chatGPT, especially when deadlines were a few hours away. It takes an inordinate amount of self discipline to not use a tool when it’s right there and the alternative is failing the class. You’re never going to be able to use the honor system effectively here. It’s going to devolve into students submitting chatGPT essays and professors using chatGPT to grade them.

From there the only logical step is to have AI be a generally accepted tool in everyone’s life like we have smartphones now. The extremely long term view on this is the lack of need for education at all as soon as we get the future AGI version of chatGPT directly plugged into our brains.

Re:Facebook Announces Meta Verified on Monday February 20, 2023 @12:22PM (#34870318)
Advertisers trying to reach the most number of people don’t want to associate with toxic discourse that disparages a lot of the populace. It’s about as free market as it gets.
Re:Facebook Announces Meta Verified on Monday February 20, 2023 @12:20PM (#34870287)
Even if you don’t buy any other discourse the market has spoken. They have never been as unprofitable as they are now.
Re:Facebook Announces Meta Verified on Monday February 20, 2023 @12:17PM (#34870260)
This would completely kill fluid discourse. People would not want to post anything controversial since it could be tied back to them. That being said I’m illogically for it.
Re:Open source solution replicates ChatGPT training process on Monday February 20, 2023 @02:42AM (#34865971)
Pretty much everything at work.
There’s going to be plenty of “art from an artist” that going to be AI art. If that gets caught enough we’re either going to have to put blinders on or find a foolproof verification third party.
Get off your high horse. On the relative scale of things I’d take a Silicon Valley CEO that atleast attempts to give lip service if not much more to humanitarian ideas while adding real value to the economy and providing jobs to millions to people. You deserve to be downvoted for your basesless attacks on generally good people trying to do the right thing while still trying to navigate the challenges of running the biggest companies in the world.

You disgust me and are everything wrong with America.

If you’re hard of hearing and blind you’re in a very minuscule group and unfortunately the world cannot be made accessible to every fringe group.
I don’t. That’s a perfectly reasonable perspective.

No, people without self control have to try to feel good about themselves and this is usually the route.

Have you made this comment before? Strong sense of deja vu with this one.
Re:Where do stolen bikes go? on Thursday February 16, 2023 @03:49PM (#34825839)
Still, you’re implying the use of a deadly weapon on someone else’s property. That’s going to get you in trouble.
Re:YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki is stepping down on Thursday February 16, 2023 @03:42PM (#34825737)
There is evidence, it’s just anecdotal and every contrary comment is the same.
Re:YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki is stepping down on Thursday February 16, 2023 @01:30PM (#34823265)
Because people would brigade videos they politically disagreed with even if it was good content. I’m seeing those videos now. Taking away dislikes has a chilling effect on brigading.
Re:YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki is stepping down on Thursday February 16, 2023 @01:28PM (#34823229)
YouTube still uses dislikes to keep those out of your stream.
Re:YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki is stepping down on Thursday February 16, 2023 @12:49PM (#34822354)
Completely disagree. Getting rid of that button has significantly cleaned up the associated comments sections. I’ve also noticed a general improvement in my recommendations. Great move imo.
Re:Bing: “I will not harm you unless you harm me first” on Wednesday February 15, 2023 @04:58PM (#34811241)
Autocomplete models with incredibly dense neural networks and extremely large data sets.

Repeat after me humans are autocomplete models, humans are autocomplete models

Re:Bing: “I will not harm you unless you harm me first” on Wednesday February 15, 2023 @04:48PM (#34811091)
Saying it’s a autocomplete does not do justice to what amounts to an incredibly complicated neural network with apparent emergent intelligence. More and more it’s seems to be not all that different from how the human brain potentially does language processing.
Re:Ask HN: How to improve my skills in prompt engineering? on Wednesday February 15, 2023 @12:57PM (#34807824)
Ha it’s been interesting to see this term gradually showing up in parlance and turning itself into a real job over time.
Cars are one of India’s larger exports. Cars are definitely manufactured in India- TATA, Mahindra, Maruti etc.
Re:Does Google need a new CEO? on Tuesday February 14, 2023 @12:13PM (#34792508)
You can oversimplify anything like that. How hard is it to make Maps? Just digitize an existing map.
Re:Does Google need a new CEO? on Tuesday February 14, 2023 @11:58AM (#34792238)
He was the PM for Chrome so I don’t think I would call him incompetent.
Yep, if I’m fully in office I accept that that is my reality. With hybrid I dread the days I have to go in.
I don’t understand this perspective. Being able to see people through video in meet/zoom I don’t feel like I’m missing out on any aspect of in person meetings. Outside water cooler sessions that we do virtually as well, what else am I missing?
Yes they are anchored to the schist substrate. The point I’m trying to make is you generally don’t build to account for earthquakes if you’re not on a fault line.
Well New York isn’t on an active fault line. I think California would fare pretty well, as much as can be expected after the big one.

Not if you’re making more than others in your role.
