Re:The future in old computer magazines (1984–2004) on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:17AM (#50335824)
The tone of those articles suggests the authors anticipated a very different economic environment, probably in the spirit of "as technical progress marches on, so does the quality of life". So the machines were foretold to organize parties and choose suitable wines.

In reality these 2 went in opposite directions, clearly the speed of tech progress was underestimated and the kind of future economy was wrongly predicted. But hey, these were leisure magazines, who'd take them seriously.

The retelling of Hitler's arc deserves powerful voices like Vitalik's.
Re:The Future of CSS on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:17AM (#50179651)
This looks a bit like another revolution is brewing, where people relying heavily on Tailwind might one day be surprised how powerful the raw CSS has become.
Allegations, there was no trial or verdict.

An article like like this could be auto-generated with anybody's name.

It still amazes me that in California if someone donates to anti-gay marriage initiative they can be openly called "absolute scumbag" and people just roll with it. It's called having political views.
Re:PDF Forgeries Are Surprisingly Rare (2022) on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @06:48AM (#49799185)
I read this and classified as "future issue". If it's so easy as the author described it will happen, or it's already happening and it will be discovered much later.

The Dieselgate is a good analogy. Incentives, how easy it is to get to profit.

Anything can be represented by a dot on a screen, but not everything makes sense to be appreciated in this way.
Re:Why the AfD Wins on Monday September 07, 2026 @04:54PM (#49602898)
Congratulations to democratically elected leaders!
Wow, what a story. I'd say part of it is either you are not communicating with enough clarity or there a people in your team or above who are actively trying to not make it happen.
Re:How Universities Should Prepare Founders on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @05:38AM (#49431152)
It's not in universities interest to prepare ideal startup founders. They are not supposed to be preparatory schools.
Re:Oceans hit highest temperature on record on Monday August 24, 2026 @04:14PM (#49425278)
OMG, that's like 200 years of 4.5bn?
It just says that when you slept well you can be a bit drowsy.
A 50-100 LOC library that provides 80% of what React does is very easy to create. I created one of those 14 years ago before React, to replace things like mustache and similar templating languages. That doesn't take away from your effort. It's a good idea for anyone to recreate their favourite lib to understand the principles.
Re:Deno Desktop on Monday June 22, 2026 @08:23AM (#48629208)
Of all the content they put out I liked the comparison section the most. The last row says iOS/Android - Electron: no, deno: not yet. If they deliver on this it will get much bigger.
Re:Developers don't understand CORS (2019) on Sunday June 21, 2026 @05:33AM (#48617221)
CORS, CSRF and CSP get the job done;)
Re:1worldflag: A blue dot on a transparent background on Monday June 08, 2026 @02:30AM (#48441930)
I would live to see the transparency around the funding and goals of this project.

Get familiar with Donald Hoffman - plenty of good podcasts with him.
Re:ATMs didn't kill bank Teller jobs, but the iPhone did on Thursday March 12, 2026 @12:30PM (#47353370)
They key is to do it by setting up the right structure or end up with it naturally, not by laws and control, because then you end up in a oppressive nanny state at the very best.
It's insanity to stop using country own resources and rely on unreliable tech and energy imports.

As I browse the comments here I lament that most "above average IQ" folks still don't get this simple truth.

Re:Global warming has accelerated significantly on Friday March 06, 2026 @12:15PM (#47277947)
It's gonna be great, when it's warmer.
Did they also bring rainbow flags?
The rap seems rather derivative, lyrics contain mandatory token "pussy".
Re:A website to destroy all websites on Friday January 02, 2026 @04:34AM (#46463098)
Open source values blah blah and still a personal dig at Brendan Eich.
Yeah, meanwhile what happened to Gilgamesh's tomb? What is left to see in Iraq/Uruk is less than a shadow of what was excavated.
Is this your human right?
Re:What Does Palantir Actually Do? on Friday August 15, 2025 @05:48AM (#44910391)
He said he expected Susan;)
Beginning is an illusion created by our way of perception. Time is neither linear nor real so how can there be a "beginning"?
Re:How to live an intellectually rich life on Friday May 02, 2025 @08:22AM (#43868809)
I wouldn't advise this as a life goal. Better to live an intentional live. I am sure people can come up with even better formulations.
Re:Basic Income Pilot Project: Study results on Wednesday April 09, 2025 @03:51PM (#43636961)
Who in their right mind wants that? UBI just means signing your soul away to the state, who then can mandate your lifestyle completely including health procedures and even military conscription. No thanks.
