Force touch works on the latest iPhones, except for the XR
Re:New iPad Air and iPad Mini on Monday March 18, 2019 @09:01PM (#19427085)
I agree with you that upgrading usually means worse battery life, but iOS 12 was an exception to this I believe.
Re:Bird lays off up to 5% of workforce on Friday March 15, 2019 @12:37AM (#19396610)
In major metros, yes.
They’ll probably sue them.
Re:E.U.’s Biggest Economies Ban Boeing Max 8 Jets on Wednesday March 13, 2019 @04:02AM (#19376647)
I think you mean the Ethiopian airlines case, not Egyptian.
Re:Treat Medicines Like Netflix Treats Shows on Thursday March 07, 2019 @11:39AM (#19329480)
Maybe because that’s just you, a unique individual.

For a different unique case, such as someone who has Hep C, the utility value for the medicine could literally be everything for the person.

So, if we average the utility value for a whole population, the utility value would actually be pretty high, especially if a lot of people have Hep C.

Re:On Being a Principal Engineer on Thursday February 14, 2019 @08:05PM (#19167657)
Time to leave I guess?
Re:Mark Zuckerberg Speaks Down to Users and Misses the Point on Friday January 25, 2019 @07:56PM (#19003999)
Facebook will not change anything until it is forced to. It simply is in their best interest to disregard their users privacy just like they currently are doing.
Re:Big Cities No Longer Deliver for Low-Skill Workers on Tuesday January 22, 2019 @10:43PM (#18975495)
Really unfair to discredit Microsoft from anything but the web browsers issue. They massively pushed the idea of personal computers, probably more than any other company in history.
Re:Cleaning New York's harbor with one billion oysters on Monday January 21, 2019 @03:04AM (#18958593)
I think you should watch the Handmaid’s Tale; it will make you never suggest your latter suggestion again :)
Re:Apple’s Errors on Monday January 07, 2019 @03:02PM (#18849383)
Although I prefer iPhones, I don’t think any American manafacturer is not in the pocket of the NSA.
Re:AT&T will put a fake 5G logo on its 4G LTE phones on Friday December 21, 2018 @09:25PM (#18738521)
I still have the stepped bar graph for some reason.
Re:Robinhood Will Retool Checking Product Following Scrutiny on Saturday December 15, 2018 @08:44PM (#18691321)
So no one actually did their due diligence before announcing the product. I’m quite shocked that a ~$6 billion company can behave this way.
Re:Firefox 64 Released on Tuesday December 11, 2018 @06:10PM (#18659868)
Thanks for these. I always want to search in hn specifically. This will be so helpful.
It’s always fascinating to see how innovative ancient Egypt was. This makes me identify with them as normal people that share the same feelings with us. They dreamt like us and imagined stuff like us. I wish I could go back in time and live there for a while.
Re:How Did Indonesia and Malaysia Become Majority-Muslim? on Sunday December 02, 2018 @07:36PM (#18585522)
Do you have a source for this? Or is this just personal experience?
Re:Spectrum is joining GitHub on Friday November 30, 2018 @10:45PM (#18574987)
It’s a feature for the company creating the lock-in, and a bug for the users.
Re:Questions to Ask Before Joining a Startup on Monday November 26, 2018 @07:58PM (#18538347)
I think getting paid (preferably well) is always one of the reasons why people work for any company, including startups.
I think she offers a fresh perspective in American politics. I hope she continues to do so in the future.
Can you mention an example of Chinese content that’s not accessible?
If Linux survives that long I will be very happy. It always reminds me of how great collaboration between humans can be :)
The Egyptian presence in Yemen is simulated at best [0]. They have no troops there, they haven't fired a single bullet and nobody has even seen them after the first few days. [0]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_armed_groups_in_the_Ye...
I'm so happy something like this exists. I absolutely love TRON and anything that relates to it. I was really sad that Disney didn't push for a third movie.
Re:Show HN: Find a Study Buddy for your MOOC on Friday November 16, 2018 @11:46AM (#18469855)
This is a fantastic idea. With some MOOCs, I tend to procrastinate heavily, so I hope societal pressure from a study buddy would help me avoid that :)
Makes me think about the quote ‘It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!’ Of course they don’t care about anything but profit and growth because it’s what makes them richer.
Thanks for this. I assumed anyone that visits HN knows what Google does, especially after the whistleblowing and revelations in the past few years. I agree that it would’ve been better for me to add a few citations or proof, so here’s [0] the first search result when searching for google+surveillance on DDG. [0]:https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jun/18/google...
I believe Google is a surveillance company, and I like to think that anything they do has something to do with that. I would love someone to prove me wrong though, because what they're doing is so dystopian.
Re:Are You Ready for the Nanoinfluencers? on Monday November 12, 2018 @10:21AM (#18433085)
If someone is really close to me, I don't mind them tagging me in stuff like that. But if we're just acquaintances, I hate it.
