Their headline says "TypeSafe A raises series AI". Is that AI slope?
Re:Anthropic acquires Stainless on Monday May 18, 2026 @01:44PM (#48182855)
I worked with Alex (founder of stainless) at Stripe and he's awesome. Happy for him and well deserved. Congrats Alex! :)
Re:Starbucks: Location closures and elimination of roles on Thursday September 25, 2025 @02:18PM (#45376736)
It's always funny to me how they are still insisting on customer experience and good coffee house. In the bay area most starbucks have become the burger king of coffee shops: housing of drunk homeless people

you should probably read the article then, it's pretty clearly explained
Is his book "Wiring Up The Big Brother Machine...And Fighting It" worth a read?

insane, I never thought that `toList.appendChild(item.closest('li'));` would MOVE the item. You learn something every day
Re:The Future of How We Work Together at Roblox on Tuesday October 17, 2023 @04:08PM (#37920832)
I totally agree with the impact of spontaneous things happening when in person.

I had been working remotely for 8 years and really was 100% for it and advocating it. I recently joined a new job where I'm at the office 3 days a week, and I can definitely feel the difference both in the time it took me to onboard (compared to other remote-only onboarding I did) and the productivity / relationships / other gains from those days we are all in the office.

Those ad-hoc conversation happening around a desk, a white board, at lunch, do bring a lot of value that you never get while WFH. I can definitely see how some of my previous burn outs may have been prevented if I was not 100% remote.

Of course YMMV, but personally I can definitely see how a company may decide to get back to the office and it's definitely not all black and white where remote is better and omg the mean bosses are getting butts back in seats for more control.

Re:John Carmack on shorter work weeks (2016) on Friday June 16, 2023 @06:24PM (#36364776)
the question is, when you "work" more, are you actually "working" more. I'm not advocating for either side, but I believe a few places that have moved to a shorter work week haven't seen lower productivity. Might be a sign that most people actually can't do ~40hrs of work per week.
Re:Ten classic fountain pens for the personal touch on Tuesday May 02, 2023 @11:59AM (#35789609)
I'm surprised they don't mention Parker. At school in France in the 90s, that was the true classic.
Re:All 10TB portable SSDs on Amazon (UK) are scams on Monday January 30, 2023 @06:02PM (#34587908)
Sorry, can someone explain what is happening here? What's wrong with those products?
I learnt ruby with Zed Shaw’s Learn Ruby the Hard Way. Was a really great experience!
Re:An extensive tutorial on how to setup a Pi-Hole on Tuesday November 29, 2022 @11:24AM (#33789564)
That's good timing, because with the increase in the price for youtube premium, I started thinking that I wanted an alternative to watching youtube on my TVs without ads.

Does anyone know if using a pi-hole triggers ad-blockers popups on websites, and if yes, is it easy to deal with (either activate ads for specific websites, etc)?

Re:Factorio for Nintendo Switch is now available on Friday October 28, 2022 @11:24AM (#33372579)
I've just started playing the demo yesterday and I'm hooked. Will definitely buy the game, but wondering on which platform. My laptop screen already feels a bit small - anyone has an experience playing on switch and thoughts on playing on handheld mode and/or using controls compared to keyboard/mouse?
Yeah, high prices suck but I do agree and fail to see what, exactly, is wrong here?

Don't get me wrong, I don't like TM, I don't like monopolies and I don't like high prices, but... price = equilibrium between offer and demand, it's the basics of our capitalist society, and all this look like to me is that TM is doing a good job at figuring out the equilibrium price for their tickets?

Damn that's a lot of applications to review. Is there any data in terms of quality of applications? Is there a big part of spams/very low quality applications or is everything pretty serious?

Re:Using a Raspberry Pi as a Bluetooth Speaker with PipeWire on Friday September 02, 2022 @12:14PM (#32692524)
somewhat unrelated but I recently looked for a pi and it was sold out or the price tag was 10x the regular price everywhere, mostly because of the chip shortage. Am I looking in the wrong places?

I really like building Conway's Game of Life. It's big enough that each time I still have to think about the solution and how to build it, but small enough that it allows me to recognize patterns and differences from a language to another.
Re:Actual is going open-source on Friday April 29, 2022 @03:13PM (#31209476)
salaries in europe are much lower - but to be fair, I lived much better in amsterdam with 100k euro than SF with 150k
Re:Twitter set to accept Musk's $43B offer – sources on Monday April 25, 2022 @02:45PM (#31159009)
So, how does that work for current stock holders and employees? If you own Twitter stock, will it be automatically sold at 43b val? And twitter will get out of public markets?

For employees, are they pretty much seeing their comp getting divided by 2 because now they can't sell the stocks/rsus they vest every quarter?

I just saw someone on tiktok showing how they made their own invisiline from a scan of their teeths. They programmed their own multi-step adjustment, bought a special 3d printer and printed all their invisiline things. Unsure how efficient or comparable theirs will be to the right thing, but I found that very interesting what a single person can do nowadays!

Funny, I tried it and ended up on http://www.agoogleaday.com/. The site looks broken because clicking on the only button "start playing" does not work.
Re:A submarine made from IKEA jar and legos on Tuesday February 08, 2022 @12:32PM (#30261459)
I recently discovered this youtube channel (Brick Expereriment [0]) and I'm addicted. Their videos are fun, clever and smart at the same time and you can learn a bunch of things, related to legos or not!

Re:Ask HN: Who has moved from the U.S. to Europe? on Tuesday January 25, 2022 @04:21PM (#30078240)
We planned on going for 2 years, stayed 3. We could have definitely stayed forever if we wanted to (I'm European so no visa issue). We came back as planned because my wife's family is in SF and we always planed to get back closer to them.
Re:Ask HN: Who has moved from the U.S. to Europe? on Tuesday January 25, 2022 @04:20PM (#30078221)
indeed, but the catalogue is nothing compared to what amazon has.
Re:Ask HN: Who has moved from the U.S. to Europe? on Tuesday January 25, 2022 @11:02AM (#30073332)
This is completely true. And also, if money feels like it could be an issue, and you are coming from the US with a US network, it's still pretty easy to find contracting work with your US-based network at US rates. That's what we did once we quit our jobs and I was pretty much working 2 days/week.
