Re:Codex is EATING my Mac's disk space on Sunday October 18, 2026 @12:58AM (#50138038)
He's saying the build artifacts themselves are consuming the space
Re:What was a Token Ring network? on Friday October 16, 2026 @06:43PM (#50125770)
All the tokenring in use at the bank I worked at in the mid-90s was twisted pair.

I faintly recall that some of the older systems used the 9pin connectors.

And the first home ethernet I set up was BNC.

It's a 100 surplus. By definition it is +100 over maintenance
Re:2x, not 10x: coding with LLMs in 2026 on Friday July 31, 2026 @01:39AM (#49119394)
It seems like constructive criticism rather than scolding.

If I were running around saying "providence" instead of "provenance" I would want someone to tell me.

Re:Your brain was never designed for this much bad news on Sunday June 21, 2026 @03:41AM (#48616582)
I think he means the conclusion you were talking about when you said "I have come to the conclusion..."
Re:Defeating Git Rigour Fatigue with Jujutsu on Sunday May 24, 2026 @10:59PM (#48263026)
The delay is on HN side, when people reply too quickly.
Re:Typing and Keyboards on Sunday March 29, 2026 @04:18PM (#47566838)
I use ctrl-c and ctrl-v for those. Right hand presses right control with palm of hand (just below pinky). Left hand types the letter like normal.

I just kind of roll my hand to the ctrl key, I don't use a finger to press it.

Same thing with right-ctrl.

Re:Why I love NixOS on Sunday March 22, 2026 @02:20PM (#47480474)
Use it for a month or two and decide it's not for you.

That is in between "use it for very short period of time" and "use it forever"

Re:Rolling your own serverless OCR in 40 lines of code on Monday February 16, 2026 @02:07PM (#47038924)
Depends if you mean "server" as in piece of metal (or vm), or as in "a daemon"
From what I have read (not having actually used Zulip) it always sounded like the chats were threaded in the same way that mailing lists or newsgroups are threaded.

How accurate is that understanding?

Re:Ian's Shoelace Site on Monday February 02, 2026 @02:04AM (#46853255)
I use the fast normal knot for shoes I am going to tie/untie a lot and the secure knot for everything else.
Re:BU-808: How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries (2023) on Sunday January 25, 2026 @03:11PM (#46757682)
I think that's just sun+charging, not wireless charging specific.
You're starting with the plate, getting the home, and then you can get the real estate info.

Most people don't expect their identity to be discoverable from their driving.

350MB so 2 would fit on a standard CDROM.

Anagram, perhaps.
Re:Addiction Markets on Saturday November 01, 2025 @01:55PM (#45783748)
If spouse-a has gambling addiction and spends all of the family money, then spouse-b was effectively forced to gamble.

He says in his comment that they inject the urine, then, a few days later, they kill the rabbit.
I think "call screening with Google Fi" is some kind of service/feature, which they have enabled.
Sounds...legit tho? I sure wouldn't want tinnitus, so if that can be softened, seems worth doing.
Re:Why are credit card rates so high? on Tuesday April 01, 2025 @06:55PM (#43552150)
Credit cards have better consumer protection than debit cards.

You are on the hook for like $50 max of fraudulent credit card, and like $500 of fraudulent debit. If you don't catch debit in time, you might be liable for all of it.

Re:Netflix CEO Says Movie Theaters Are Dead on Tuesday April 01, 2025 @12:53AM (#43542975)
The people who tout "you can pause it" as an advantage of home theater are just not consuming movies the way I consume movies.

If you are in the theatre, no one is going to talk to you about the movie, or comment on it for no reason, etc.

I still regret pausing Lost Highway (like 25 years ago) so we could go out and smoke a cigarette. It completely broke the spell and the movie just wasn't the same from then on.

Re:It's five grand a day to miss our S3 exit on Sunday March 30, 2025 @01:28PM (#43525884)
That sounds like accessibility, not durability.
Usually when people use the phrase, "But what do I know?", it's to flag that they think they probably do know.

Re:Tmux – The Essentials (2019) on Tuesday March 04, 2025 @11:36PM (#43262840)
Left arrow is not where my fingers are, but ctrl-b is.

I would have to move my whole hand over to the arrow keys, or I can use the edge of my right hand (on a full size keyboard, not laptop) to hit ctrl, and hit "b" with my left index finger.

I have heard that told with “VCR” in place of microwave. We still have a microwave that needs clock set when power fails. We do not have a VCR.
Re:Zed now predicts your next edit with Zeta, our new open model on Saturday February 15, 2025 @02:14AM (#43056556)

Physics math has high overlap with Finance math.
Re:Why Is Ashburn the Data Center Capital of the World? on Saturday January 18, 2025 @01:10AM (#42746274)
Nowadays, it's true they usually use watts.

But not too long ago (and still very common in office-building server rooms) they use "tons of refrigeration", which takes its name from the amount of power it takes to phase change a ton of water in 1 day. It is 12k BTU/h.
