Re:Sam Altman Thinks You're Wasting DRAM on Friday October 30, 2026 @12:36PM (#50306385)
I love when people say entire ass instead of just ass.
Re:elect.horse on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:25AM (#50303556)
We still have slavery?
Re:elect.horse on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:05AM (#50303321)
It literally says “also by us: enclose.horse”
Re:Edit an SQLite database in your browser on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:52PM (#50299333)
It’s very annoying. Claude specifically will tend to treat minor clarifying details in a prompt as major features.

I’ve also noticed it likes to spam a UI with explanatory text for every control. Almost like it wants to do tooltips, but doesn’t understand the exact UI for them.

Re:Mac Studio M5 Ultra 512GB Officially Released on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @06:06PM (#50281605)
Exactly, optimizing for VRAM where you don’t need the RTX 6000 performance.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @05:43PM (#50281356)
They do drop prices from time to time, they just don’t do the live market pricing Dell and Lenovo do where it can change day to day.

I hear you though on the cost. The Mac Mini was a killer deal a year ago, especially if you could get it on sale for <$500. Not today though.

Re:Apple introduces the new 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @12:47PM (#50261941)
My M1 Pro has been great, certainly doesn’t feel like a 5-year old computer.
Re:Apple introduces the new 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @12:43PM (#50261862)
Competition is a beautiful thing.
Re:Apple introduces the new 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @12:41PM (#50261832)
Exactly. A late model Intel Mac is still a perfectly cromulent computer in 2026.
Re:New iMac with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @11:58AM (#50261214)
That’s the crazy thing, not everything has to be for you.
Re:New iMac with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @11:56AM (#50261186)
27 is fine, fixed a lot of the issues in 26.
I agree, anyone serious about a truck isn’t getting a Rivian or Cybertruck.
Re:Nvidia discusses $2k-per-GPU annual fee for software on Monday October 26, 2026 @07:32PM (#50252689)
In the industrial automation world, you pay for the hardware (PLC), and then separately have to pay for the software to program it (made by the same company). Now if you want support for the software or hardware, that’s another cost.

At every interaction point, someone has their hand out wanting payment.

That’s called a topper or a SUV.
The laws of the country would apply to the objects in that country. If you route traffic from America to Russia, the hosts/clients in America need to follow American laws and the hosts/clients in Russia need to follow Russian laws.
But it’s absolutely placeable. The internet is run by real computers that exist in the physical world.
Re:XPS 16 Creator Edition Laptop on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:39AM (#50231465)
Not exactly performance, but features. For example, you can’t use Remote Desktop to connect to a machine running Windows Home.

Also, there are industry specific apps that can require Pro.

It means what it says
Re:XPS 16 Creator Edition Laptop on Sunday October 25, 2026 @08:38AM (#50230919)
And not even Windows Pro
Re:XPS 16 Creator Edition Laptop on Sunday October 25, 2026 @08:36AM (#50230907)
Is this for developers with a humiliation fetish?
Re:Helm: Personal Email Server on Wednesday October 17, 2018 @02:41PM (#18242259)
I don't see how we should automatically trust them because we "own" the hardware. If its not open source and able to be verified by third parties, what does it matter if we have the "keys"? $500 for proprietary hardware just seems odd considering the goal here.
Re:DuckDuckGo Traffic on Saturday September 29, 2018 @09:58AM (#18100345)
Exploding might be an overstatement, but it did hit an all time high for daily queries this week.
Re:DuckDuckGo Traffic on Saturday September 29, 2018 @09:57AM (#18100335)
I’ve also been all-in on DuckDuckGo for over a year now. I feel like it always gives me good results. I only speak English, but better support for other languages would be fantastic for those who can benefit from it.
Re:GPG Suite 2018.4 adds a fee for encrypting and signing new mail on Saturday September 22, 2018 @12:08PM (#18046530)
Well, even though I had it installed, I never really used it.

Does this change anything with GPG Keychain?

Re:What Dropbox dropping Linux support says on Tuesday August 28, 2018 @10:54AM (#17859227)
The first Decider to switch a medium+ business to Linux is going to get his/her ass fired.
Re:What Dropbox dropping Linux support says on Tuesday August 28, 2018 @10:53AM (#17859215)
I'm not going to discount your anecdotal experience, but this is literally the first time I've ever heard of issues like that on a Mac. The only copy/paste problems I ever run in to is copy/paste from a VMWare VM to the host OS.
Re:What Dropbox dropping Linux support says on Tuesday August 28, 2018 @10:51AM (#17859204)
I don't think this is a reasonable scenario for the vast majority of people, even if you know someone who can SSH to your desktop for updates.

Scanbot is fantastic, I've been using it for years now.
