Yeah, I'm personally also unsure of what's so problematic about his London article. I think it's perfectly reasonable for a country to want to protect its native population, especially if said native population have lived there for an extremely long period of time.

I think it's only viewed as racist because the native population of England are white.

I got pomegranate in ChatGPT

The metaverse never had a remote inkling of PMF

Looks like OP is never returning from the Winchester.
Re:Mistral Large 4 on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @12:39PM (#49980911)
I mean usually the benchmarks make any model feel better than how they actually perform.
Re:Mistral Large 4 on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @12:37PM (#49980881)
Pretty impressive. I genuinely wonder how Mistral hires talent when their salaries are so terrible. Guess there aren't many better places to work in Europe.
Re:Mistral Large 4 on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @12:35PM (#49980845)
My guess would be designed by a skilled human with help from AI and built with AI by a skilled programmer.
Re:Dots: Always-on agents on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @12:39PM (#49911200)
Most humans are much more incompetent than a frontier AI. That's why.
Re:Dots: Always-on agents on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @11:32AM (#49910321)
Well it's too late now. Europe should have started in 2023 when there were only a couple of models. Instead, we got Mistral, which is just useful for OCR.
Re:Dots: Always-on agents on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @11:22AM (#49910182)
I would consider them tremendously useful.
Re:Dots: Always-on agents on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @08:41PM (#49902910)
So why doesn't Europe with it's talent, money and institutions create an actually useful open source model rather than relying on China?

The European attitude to technology is very strange to me. I'm very happy that I've been able to move to the US and leave it behind.

Re:Dots: Always-on agents on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @06:54PM (#49901922)
If only Europe could have produced a single frontier model company..
Re:Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously on Monday September 14, 2026 @09:03PM (#49706427)
These types of comments remind of when Cognition launched Devin and everyone was hounding on their website saying "Oh can't Devin build something better than this", etc.

And well here we are 2 years later and Devin is great.

In startups, you launch early.

Re:Muse: Meta's personal AI agent, features and capabilities on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @08:18PM (#49636497)
Meta's work on this has been known in the valley for some time now so all the VC's who invested in Instinct's recent huge raise would have known about it.
Re:Muse: Meta's personal AI agent, features and capabilities on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @08:17PM (#49636492)
Instinct, Town, Orchid, Pally, Poke, folk, it's a never ending list.
Re:Muse: Meta's personal AI agent, features and capabilities on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @08:16PM (#49636481)
To each their own, I don't enjoy planning things in the slightest.
Re:Muse: Meta's personal AI agent, features and capabilities on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @07:49PM (#49636287)
I use Instinct and I'm very happy with it so far. It has booked some restaurants for me, replied to some personal admin-related emails, and updates my progressive workout spreadsheet when i go to the gym. No real complaints so far.
Re:The jobs apocalypse is postponed. An AI jobs boom is here on Monday September 07, 2026 @04:49PM (#49602856)
Do you have any evidence to suggest that this true? And if so, why can't I just use any of the very good open source Chinese models (and eventually American once reflection, thinking machines, etc catch up).
Re:Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B on Friday August 28, 2026 @01:51PM (#49482105)
Yeah exactly. I remember speaking to someone working at a YC company who was complaining about the quality of their codebase.

I then asked him if the company was making a lot of money - he said yes, it was super successful.

Yeah exactly - found the parent comment quite funny.

For instance, one of the other top comments berates Claude for terrible instruction following with regards to scientific papers, whereas this one is full of praise.

Everyone is just making up their thoughts on these models based on vibes.

AI slop.

Tesla would be nothing without Musk. That doesn't take away from Eberhard and Tarpenning; they started the company after all and are great engineers. But it would be nothing without Musk.
Re:How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @11:54AM (#49436208)
Yes, but you'd lose childcare benefits in the UK so it's much, much worse if you are a young parent.
Re:Oceans hit highest temperature on record on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @01:02AM (#49429290)
The West just outsources pollution to China.
Re:How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs on Monday August 24, 2026 @07:33PM (#49427263)
UK taxation is absolutely absurd. Kills the ambitious. Just look at what happens between 100-125k, both from the perspective of tax and loss in benefits for parents.
Re:My agent.md to improve LLM-assisted code quality on Monday August 24, 2026 @12:27AM (#49415183)
Some of these such as "Always use {}, even on a one-line "if" statement." should just be lint rules.
It's heavily written with AI. Very painful to read.
Re:The August 17 outage, and the work ahead on Thursday August 20, 2026 @08:14PM (#49382027)
Agreed - up-time problems have been going on with Github for a while. They need to sort out their problems.
Re:The August 17 outage, and the work ahead on Thursday August 20, 2026 @08:09PM (#49381990)
A lot of human commits are low quality
Re:Launch HN: Speko (YC S26) – OpenRouter for Voice AI on Monday August 17, 2026 @06:32PM (#49338575)
This is not true in my experience. By and large, everyone uses the cascading voice stack.
