Re:Most promoted and blocked domains among Kagi Search users on Saturday August 05, 2023 @07:55AM (#37011139)
Yup, I just never took the time to set it up properly.
I took a closer look and the iOS extension supports entering a “session link” which allows the Kagi redirect to work in private windows. Entering it is a bit cumbersome—you have to first open a private window and then any random page so you can see the extension button in the address bar, at which point you can tap it and then the Kagi icon to get to the session link field—but it appears to stick after that and the redirect works as expected (although you do get a brief flash of Google or whatever — they suggest changing it to DDG which looks a bit smoother).

Agree that it feels hacky, but sometimes you just have to take what you can get.

I realize this is probably not the solution you want, but there is an official iOS Safari extension that will intercept all address bar searches and route them to Kagi. I don’t remember how much it costs, and it doesn’t seem to work super well with private browsing, but it’s better than nothing and works well for what it is. Ymmv

I’ve used Magnet for ages. It’s pretty expensive now though—I think it was only a couple of dollars when I bought it. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/magnet/id441258766?mt=12

You spelled "misspelled" correctly, which earns a point in my book because (in a profound display of irony) a lot of native speakers misspell that one!
Re:Perl code that is syntactically correct only on Fridays on Wednesday February 16, 2022 @07:39PM (#30368016)
Am I literally the only person who sees the pun against “His Girl Friday?” Maybe it wasn’t intentional but that’s literally the first thing I thought of.
Re:For some searches the whole screen on Google is now ads on Friday February 04, 2022 @07:11PM (#30215431)
Seconding this comment. I grumbled at first about paying for it but frankly after more than a year I’ve come to realize it’s money well spent considering how much use my family gets out of it.
Re:Beverly Cleary has died on Friday March 26, 2021 @07:50PM (#26598387)
Haha that is literally the only part of any Ramona book which I still remember all these years later. “Who’s Mr. King?” I remember her dad asking.
Re:In-car touchscreens are dangerous on Friday February 26, 2021 @07:19PM (#26281419)
I drive a base model Mazda 3 which has needed no major repairs whatsoever and runs like a top. Meanwhile my wife drives a Nissan Murano (by all accounts a much “nicer” car) and we had to effectively replace the entire steering system at a cost of several thousand dollars.
I’ve had it pretty much since it launched. $5 a month is a pittance and there are quite a few excellent games on it (Grindstone is fantastic if you have any interest at all in color-matching puzzles), plus it’s hard to overstate the significance of the complete lack of ads and IAP. The fact that every single Arcade game works on our Apple TV is a real bonus because I can feel comfortable letting my son play games on it (especially since the vast majority are all-ages appropriate).

Maybe to spark conversation?

Zach Gage created a version where both sides get a random assortment of pieces, which certainly turns the game on its head. http://reallybadchess.com/
Re:Why Was Mini USB Deprecated in Favor of Micro USB? on Saturday June 01, 2019 @07:23PM (#20072422)
I can speak to this. I have a Google Nexus 7 tablet with the mini-USB connection which I’m no longer able to use because the port simply will not hold a cable effectively enough to charge it.
It’s rare that I find a comment which validates my own practices like this. I personally love creating systems and abstractions, and admittedly I will sometimes create one when a simpler solution would suffice. However those “over-engineered” solutions have frequently saved me lots of time much later when business requirements change.

Probably because all of CSS uses 1-index (ex: :nth-child)
Re:A game of tag that’s been going for 20+ years on Sunday April 15, 2018 @09:01PM (#16845982)
Ha, I was telling my wife about this article and read her this comment, knowing that she would get it. Right on cue, she replied, “ugh, me too.”
I've been using Magnet for a while now. It seems much more stable and efficient than Spectacle. Hopefully it will not end up on this chopping block as well. http://magnet.crowdcafe.com/
Re:Tower – The most powerful Git client for Mac and Windows on Sunday November 06, 2016 @12:20AM (#12883487)
I switched from SourceTree to Tower after the former started to feel excessively buggy and slow. Tower seems much more stable, plus I think some of its workflows are much nicer. In particular I really appreciate how easy it is to control commits line-by-line, which is something I need to deal with on most days.
