I was more thinking of a number of European countries, particularly Germany.

Certainly, a nation that for a while was known for its martial culture.

But nowadays, they seem pacifist to a fault, with a crumbling military to boot.

Well the rate limiting is coming from the downvotes and flag. Those are coming because clearly you are repeatedly and violently violating the guidelines. In that case it’s simply you.

Could it be that flaggers often just don’t like you, your comment, or being challenged? No. That can’t be. We’re all morally superior to Redditors on here, after all.

> That does create jobs and raises tax revenue through consumption taxes and downstream employment. It's very similar to tourism

Oh wow! A bunch of poorly paid service jobs!

Perhaps true, but why should they suffer for the results of their own actions? Those above them don’t have to. They can fuck the economy by running frauds, fixings, and gambling rings and come out of it with a new cushy retirement gig.

Any recommend readups like that? The Big Short certainly both entertained and horrified me with the insane games these sort of gamblers find.

And that is called natural selection.

I mean, some highly militarized cultures were effectively pacified for at least the next century
I’ll wager whoever y'all run in 2028 will be equally as spineless though.

That’s a fair take. The reason people dismiss the technology is because the reasonable takes are drowned out by lunatics thinking they’re going to be living in Star Trek in a decade.

It was the AI boyfriend stuff for me that I started genuinely considering a large astroturfing campaign.

Feels like it hit mainstream media way too quick, and so many of the accounts on the subreddit seemed possibly inorganic.

> Flagging seems so odd to me. Your interpretation of rules is not the same as others.

The real problem is that there are no rules only “guidelines” which invites anyone to interpret them to their own benefit.

Oh man, I really thought that with the third biggest economy in the country, Florida had a surprisingly crummy job market.

I did not realize the economy was built on wealthy carpetbaggers and the poorly paid hospitality workers.

They’re going to do it anyway. Might as well get a bit of comfort out of my last few years of decent earnings.
Re:It's the Housing, Stupid on Monday August 18, 2025 @09:55AM (#44940635)
I will say I had my life absolutely destroyed somewhat recently. I thought I landed in my feet alright, till I learned I had basically become a pariah to the housing market. The past few months I’ve found myself more hateful and angry whenever

It’s almost entirely because of my current housing situation. I was not like this a few years ago.

Re:It's the Housing, Stupid on Monday August 18, 2025 @09:44AM (#44940527)
Hah, I’ve been half wondering if I could just snatch up a cheap lot somehwhere and fucking camp on it.

I’m sure, in most cases though, it’s somehow made illegal to utilize you’re “owned” property.

Took me over a year to find new employment. Hell, at one point I was getting rejected from low/no-skill positions. Y’know the same ones that had been bitching and whining not too long ago about “no one wants to work”.

In the end, I was saved solely by the grace a nepo-referral. for a job I was arguably less qualified for than all the ones that had been rejecting me.

> why has no CEO of any, even medium sized, company come out and just said "fuck this, fuck you, fuck 33% of voters, we'll continue to try to operate like a normal country in our little corner"

Because they’re the puppetmasters

Somewhat off topic, but I was thinking about the idea of “strong man” rulers and how so many examples are… quite opposite.

The idea came to me when watching something about Idi Amin, one such character described

In reality it seems he effectively crippled his nations military because he was a paranoid coward.

36.2%

Believing something so context dependent with so many variables can be given hard numbers is so stupid, I can’t believe it’s a real question.

But I guess lying is what you people do for a living.

Fair enough

But in the same spirit, I will just murder you. What are you gonna do? Police human nature?
