Re:Linux doesn't have Photoshop on Sunday December 29, 2019 @07:17PM (#21909660)
This is Adobe we're talking about, their video editor can't handle multiple audio streams in standard video formats and codecs (think game capture footage with game audio and microphone on separate channels), in fucking 2019. It can tell there's multiple streams, but it doesn't detect the sizes of any of them past the first one, and won't let you use them as-is; you need to extract them from the video container and import them as audio files and manually sync them to the timeline.

And some people suggest I'm supposed to feel guilty for pirating their stuff. Hah.

Shouldn't you be asking the law makers and law enforcers that question?

If you support such laws, shouldn't you ask yourself the same question?

Illegal != immoral, after all.

Re:US births decline for fourth year in a row, CDC says on Wednesday November 27, 2019 @08:52PM (#21654022)
Looking at the downvoted but not commented-upon comments in this thread, and specifically the content of those comments, I'd speculate that certain people find the assertions therein either too challenging to their own beliefs, or somehow offensive, but not enough to actually challenge them with a comment.

Seems like if you say the wrong thing about theocracy, or have sane and body-positive sex advice, you're bound to get some silent judgement from people who aren't brave enough to actually call you out, lest they have to actually defend their beliefs that cause them some degree of cognitive dissonance. It's likely easier for them to not question why they think the way they do, and if it's the right way for them to think/react/etc. at all, so those beliefs and assumptions go unchallenged.

Obviously this is all speculation and assumption, but if someone won't engage with you to explain themselves, that's all one can really do, for better or worse.

Loose == !Tight

Lose == !Win

Actually, some of those transfers ended up timing out, and I have no way to know which files are incomplete.

Ended up using Notepad++ and a simple regex in the find/replace dialog to prepend ########.wav with the URL, then chucked it into JDownloader's link grabber. 283.83GB, BTW. I may end up compressing these with FLAC to save the space. If anyone is curious, the regex I used was: (([0-9])+.wav) and replaced with http://bbcsfx.acropolis.org.uk/assets/$&

Now for the naming and splitting by CD name...

Thanks, seems to be chugging along fine in an MSYS2 terminal on Windows.

Now to give them better names than the numbers used by BBC. Any solutions/suggestions?

>And remember you're now dealing with a dictator. Dictators are irrational, stupid with economics, and lots of arrogance.

And you're also dealing with Xi Jinping...

He's actually saying that the fact that conditionals, loops, and variables are the 'top concepts', i.e. the most challenging they'll encounter in that curriculum, is disappointing.
Change both instances of 'suit' to 'suite'.

>The above command compile the source file into object file and link with other object files (system library) into executable in one step. You may separate compile and link in two steps as follows:

Consider changing the first 'compile' to 'compiles'. Also consider changing 'compile and link' to 'compilation and linking'.

By doing their jobs and investigating, using existing tools, techniques, and laws?

Re:Germinating a seed after 32000 thousand years on Wednesday August 16, 2017 @01:24AM (#15025138)
Fix the title; it's thirty-two-thousand years, not thirty-two-thousand-thousand years.
Re:Kerbal Space Oddities on Friday July 28, 2017 @07:28PM (#14878403)
Because to a certain extent, it's "the Kerbal way".

That said, using more efficient staging designs is usually superior to the naive "moar boosters!" philosophy that new KSP players typically start with.

>A cellular carrier has no way to provide that feedback.

There's definitely no way they could write a simple app to provide this info, and it would be crazy for them to white-list it so it didn't count against bandwidth usage :)

Re:Ask HN: Gift for a 11-year-old hacker on Wednesday July 12, 2017 @08:19AM (#14751851)
$225? Only 60 keys? No mention of Linux support?

LOL. Why? What are the advantages over the multitude of other mechanical keyboards out there these days?

Re:How I didn't become a SoundClouder on Wednesday July 12, 2017 @02:59AM (#14750652)
Why would AI that good only end up replacing the 'shitty' coders?

Methinks you left the last and obvious/inevitable step out.

Title should read "[...] Putin critic's [...]", as it's the critic's film. He's also Putin's critic, but the film is the object in the sentence.
Blacks and hippies, with the logic that they were most likely to be anti-establishment and politically active.

Re:William Gibson’s Never-Filmed Aliens Sequel on Tuesday May 16, 2017 @08:47PM (#14354686)
I'm thinking you meant Shadowrun (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadowrun ) and not Shadow World (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_World_(role_playing_gam... ). I'm not familiar with the latter, but the description of 'high-fantasy' suggests to me that you meant the former.

That said, the Shadowrun universe is certainly an interesting mashup of magic and technology, and the fact that it exists outside of a particular story or stories seems like it would lend itself to interpretation and exploration beyond that of an adaptation of a static tale.

Re:Ask HN: How you wake up? on Thursday May 11, 2017 @02:08AM (#14314135)
I use an alarm clock app on my phone (I Can't Wake Up!) which has an option to force me to complete small tasks (simple math problems in my case) to ensure I'm awake enough so that I don't turn off the alarm and go right back to sleep.
Re:Dear Microsoft: Absolutely Not on Thursday May 11, 2017 @01:00AM (#14313931)
I hadn't seen this campaign as I avoid advertising whenever possible, but it's pretty amazing, and IMO rather telling, that nobody at Microsoft realized what message this campaign is actually sending.

Not that I expected better from MS...
