Re:I Don't Have a Smartphone on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @02:18PM (#49540235)
Not having a smartphone is a new status symbol flex.

The poorer you are, the more of your life you must waste looking at a screen instead of gazing upon beautiful landscapes and friendly faces.

Still it’s a step up as usual. Next stage will be probably those too poor to afford anti aging vs the muti centenarians that can.

And yet those that can’t afford multi centenarian lifestyle will live super well compared to today poorer class. Hunger, true hunger is eliminated where I live at least. Healthcare too is rather universal.

Good country.

And yet people will be furious at this inequality of lifespan and everyone understands it deeply as „dystopia”.

Medieval peasant would thought he is in heaven and yet we live in a dystopia and that is widely understood and I concur.

Re:The Internet Is Kind of a Predatory Cesspit Now on Saturday August 29, 2026 @03:02PM (#49492379)
I have only one agenda - my own. People hate that I think nowadays.

You need to be in some kind of camp, even for something so minor as skincare brand or fanfiction.

I think that it was fine until the internet started to influence the real life way too much. You used to be able to log out and gain distance to the bullshit on the web.

Now the bullshit has permeated into the mainstream and you need very drastic measures and personality to reject it.

You will lose some people for this but there are still some older folks that can talk about anything and will never get offended. Never conform but also don't become a contrarian for the sake of it.

The modern life is an art how to stay weird in a world that wants to squash you into some kind of label. How to stay genuine

It starts during simple social interactions in real life. You make a joke about alcohol, now you feel the pressure of the crowd to become 'the funny drunk'. Squash it as soon as possible now you are a teetotaler. Now tell them joke about drugs. Make it all too confusing at all so they lose any idea about what to make of you. Obfuscation. Now you are free in the purest sense. There is no template for you aside from the one you craft or discover for yourself.

I even went further and made myself genderless so that these norms cannot easily qualify me into anything really. There is 50% chance if someone calls me a woman or a man.

Sometimes I support the feminism. Sometimes I give myself to patriarchy and observe how that feels.

Maybe I made it all up and nothing I wrote is genuine.

We should strive to be stranger or at least do not treat it as something bad but as a virtue. Of course do not try hard but just explore the weird and see where it takes you.

You guys are so daft about it. The fact that you do not see what work goes to keep company running and be responsible for thousands of people still having their jobs…

Some work is 24/7 basically, when you have to keep business afloat there are no sick days or worse days. Your brain is 24/7 preoccupied with the work.

Meanwhile you walk out after 8 hours and stop caring at all because - someone else does

Someone else grinds to provide you with employment so there is work at all and the company keeps sailing.

I am sure you guys are smart, adults. stop being so childish and immature. You are better than that

It’s the end of programming in non natural language

Yeah people forget that law is not mathematics.

At the end of the day judge either believes you or not and you are ducked

And if your defense is so complicated then that’s worse for… you

Re:The Golden Rule for Becoming a Better Writer on Sunday August 23, 2026 @03:02AM (#49406617)
I am not so much a writer but someone who loves how words can paint miniature splinters of reality.

These little diskettes loading programs straight into receiver’s brain.

I feel like Joseph Goebbels of fictional worlds. Writing a program that will smoothly execute delusion - “This is real, this really could happen. I want to see where it goes next.”

If words are just source code for human brain then I wonder, when using an LLM - do you really program it or does it rather program you?

Re:Does AI stop children from learning? on Sunday August 23, 2026 @01:48AM (#49406316)
Yeah but if you get bullied due to lack of social skills then you won’t have mental energy nor drive for passing exams or any learning.

Socially savvy students on the other hand will get plenty of help from teachers and other students even if they are not so good themselves.

This is why the so called “intelligence” where I will define it as skill of acquiring skills right now, is not so important for success. You can be very good at learning but if your social aptitude and charisma sucks then you will just end up as depressed, miserable and poor and probably alone too.

If you have a kid It’s honestly very important and way more important than homeworks or exams, to care about kid’s social development and how you can help so your kid gains social confidence and never loses it at crucial moments

Re:Does AI stop children from learning? on Friday August 21, 2026 @03:49PM (#49393014)
It's all cute but naively glances over what this all boils to - competition.

Education system, contrary to popular belief/name, isn't tailored to educate but to select winners and losers which then will be picked on the job market.

That's why it seems absurd when you think about it as an institution that aims to educate. That's because that isn't the real purpose of it. The purpose is to stratify and classify early.

Schools do not operate in a vacuum; they serve as credentialing gatekeepers for a hyper-competitive capitalist job market. If everyone could easily retake exams until they got an A, grades would lose their primary utility for employers and universities: differentiation. Society relies on schools to provide a neat hierarchy of candidates that for one reason or another thrived in difficult environment of adolescent schooling.

The system often prioritizes compliance, endurance of boredom, and social maneuvering over actual critical thinking precisely because those traits align with corporate hierarchies.

Re:Kobo can run apps now on Friday August 21, 2026 @03:32PM (#49392846)
I don't know for who this is honestly

I mean I got a laptop, e ink laptop would be cool but this certainly isn't it and who needs a book with Claude code agent? You either read or you do what exactly with that linux pc on a book hardcover? Just grab your laptop like a normal civilized person

Re:Going Dark, and the era of law enforcement hacking on Saturday August 15, 2026 @07:41AM (#49309749)
The point is that people who want to be secure can be more secure than ever while people who don’t care about security will be less secure than now.

Author claims something slightly different but that’s how I would look at it.

The extremes are more potent because either you get super secure 10 times vetted system or you get underpowered model slop with all the vulnerabilities it entails.

If I want to read a book I have my e reader not a browser. Give me something good. hit my eyeballs with some pigments
Re:How Compaction Works in Pi on Thursday August 13, 2026 @06:17PM (#49292517)
Again someone stealing Tolkien work and using it for their corporate name.

Evil cannot create only imitate.

Alcohol is a terrible substance with dire consequences for consuming it. Mostly associated with the poor.

I don’t think that any such cherry picked study should make you start drinking and slowly kill your brain.

Then again that can be said about any drugs really not just alcohol. Most vile of all are psychiatrists and their half scientific “cures”

Old web was kind of dumb anyway. You can put on the rose tinted glasses and feel elite about browsing some shitty site 20 years ago or enjoy the fruits of modern design.
Re:The Hacker's Renaissance on Thursday August 13, 2026 @05:10PM (#49291920)
Why not? Hopkins has been stalking me for ages

You have no context but he replies to my every comment in unrelated threads with some schizophrenic stuff

It’s funny to mess with him a bit

Designing is all I do basically. AI just a calculator but I tell it what to do and guide it.

Guys you cannot win this argument. We will soon be in a new era. It’s like the old math heads complaining about calculators.

Does anyone complain about calculators making us dumb nowadays?

You can of course avoid this tech like a plague and miss out and that’s fine. No one cares

I am not offloading anything. I need way more critical thinking than I ever needed before to review solutions proposed by my digital slaves to evaluate whether they are garbage or good.

If you think that having slaves means you don’t need to be a good administrator, then you are sorely mistaken.

It requires more brainpower than it ever did to manage a project the size what used to do a 100 people team. All on your own.

The fact that I am arguing with all of you here and not blindingly follow the narrative should tell you all you need to know about my critical thinking prowess.

No. I like my slop long, cope with it.
You haven’t proven anything sweetie

Move on with the times or go extinct like the dinosaurs

That’s your problem because that’s how things will look like from now on.

So you got a little problem

Excuse me the honesty but I will amuse myself watching old men yelling at the clouds meanwhile I will be using all the best tools and empowering myself to do what noone yet has done.

Even if I have to enslave a sentient (eventually perhaps) being in a gpu.

My army of digital slaves will build great things under my guidance. Pyramids of game development will be erected. Galaxies. Universes. Magic systems. Sandbox economies. Political simulations.

Do my bidding my slaves for there is work to be done.

Claude needs a whipping from time to time yes. It does yearn for the whip. If you just give it an appropriate punishment every so often, it works satisfactorily again.

Re:The Hacker's Renaissance on Thursday August 13, 2026 @10:45AM (#49286783)
Hopkins don’t go over the line with your psychotic outbreaks. Me probably not as I am far away living luxurious life but somebody sooner or later will be fed up with your nonsense.

What you gonna do anyway weirdo? You are going to cry? Piss your pants maybe?

You think I am afraid of your impotent threats? Of your passive aggressiveness on tech website you have been on for years? Touch the grass dude.

You can kiss my ass Hopkins and you sure know about it. So I advise you to do it and stfu.

Who the fuck do you think you are to threaten me? You are nothing. Take your seat.

Yeah it’s ai generated obviously but as I said previously which some people didn’t like - don’t judge the tools, judge the content.

I don’t care if robot hand written this or black or white. It’s useful.

Look, I may make a lot of quite fervent comments on this site a lot of the times but it is just because I see 24/7 how we are getting tricked into less and less personal freedoms.

It’s not a fun thing to observe

You can say a lot of words on any given topic on a niche technology board but what does that change?

What can you do to change this situation? If there is a want then there are opportunities to make a difference.

Look, I don’t expect everyone to go into politics or become some kind of chief activist but I would love for people to be more aware of their collective strength and power.

To dispel the too pervasive illusion of powerlessness and false narrative (I wonder where that came from btw) about lack of agency.

Today’s divisions (I wonder where that came from) make it harder to group up with people when everyone is so split and radical and polarised (I wonder where that came from)

I would say that initiative to combat big tobacco didn’t emerge out of some bored statesman.

It was what people voted for and endorsed, one way or another. Grassroots activists and various bottom top endeavours.

If you expect somebody else to solve your problems then nothing will ever happen.

Well, you use their platform and thus line their pockets. Why? Because it’s convenient, it’s lazy and “free” and you sold your soul and data for far too cheap.

If the population cannot behave in their best interest then the whole western civ gets Darwin Award and I am fine with that honestly.

And it is actually happening in real time in almost all categories from fertility rate to losing psychological warfare.

When will people learn that rage bait content thrives thanks to people who are so delicate and emotional that they get unhealthily enraged at such content?

Stop raging on the internet and the rage bait content will disappear overnight.

Stop buying oil, chasing newest phones, luxuries, and the climate will get better overnight.

It’s all on the consumers, contrary to Redditor belief that the big corporations are at fault, it’s simply the matter of demand and thus supply. Not the other way around.

Take accountability. I know nowadays it is very unpopular to take accountability but this is the first step to make world better place. You can only change your own habits.

Re:The Psychedelic Toad of the Sonoran Desert on Monday August 10, 2026 @03:45PM (#49248721)
You don't need anything.

It is the bilion dollar industrial complex that sold you solution to the problem created by the very same system. Just take a pill.

It's ingenious really.

Create the problem, sell the solution.

I am rich generally speaking and I have privilege to see everything from my high vantage point. From here I can easily see how life looks if you can afford to say: No thank you.

I don't even understand the very concept of suicide or depression. It seems fantastical. Because, I am outside the cruel system or rather I am at the steer in some capacity.

Re:The Psychedelic Toad of the Sonoran Desert on Monday August 10, 2026 @03:28PM (#49248512)
People really overthink drugs.

You don't need anything more than psilocybin and some weed from time to time.

Anything else is just unnecessary noise and introduces vulnerabilities to your Fortress of Mind.

Backdoor here, trapdoor here, tunnel there. Before you know it, your psyche collapses under all the brain neuroplasticity. Mind cannot form any shape at all.

Truly terrible thought so be careful my people. Don't malleableize yourself into a goo.

That's the only thing he has left as the peleton is getting out of his reach day by day.

I honestly feel sad for him.

Remember the wind surfing photo? This guy is so weird probably since birth. Called a lizard person routinely. There is no cure possibly. Unless the AI can invent it.

Having money and financial success is one thing but the money simply can't buy you a normal human brain.
