Sorry, i was out of a spare scratch monkey.

I have a few minor quibbles about sublime, but I still use it for the bulk of stuff.

god forbid if you got a parahydrogen vs a orthohydrogen hydrogen. That reverse spin really messed up the 1's.

First thought, assuming that birth year starts at 1900 is bad for a number of reasons; one of which, "process this list of authors and ..."

What about everyone born before 1900?

I use them all the time on Perl code.

Going to have to xerox this for my wall.

Apple II, DOS and PRODOS calls do that too.

Nope, just explosive rapid deconstruction.

>stuck on an old OS release (i.e. RHEL?) and/or they don't build their own version and use the "system" Perl.

I build my containers and put Perl right in them. Makes the container a little chubbier but no outside dependencies.

And would be awesome if it gave out the current time.

I have a SuperNote that is a decent PDF viewer and notetaker.

> window snapping/tiling

Put me in the camp that hates window snap/tiling.

I have a certain workflow that needs this window there, and this one here ... don't snap to a location or go full screen.

> We use IBM MQ at work and I wouldn't exactly call it simple.

2nd'd & 3rd'd ...

You hired a 50 man lumberjack crew to cut down a sapling.

I've been spending a some time to remove IBM MQ out and going to "simpler" queuing solutions. First of all, cost. Guess what, we're not getting anything out of licensing per year to justify the cost.

With improving the end points, we don't need all that complexity. With 5 9's uptime on the network and smarter end points, retrying messages isn't expensive.

As always, YMMV.

Woof.

>not only did the address wrap around to 0, ...

Very reminisce of the 6502 "issue" of jumping with an address on a page boundary.

Per Wikipedia:

the processor will not jump to the address stored in xxFF and xxFF+1 as expected, but rather the one defined by xxFF and xx00 (for example, JMP ($10FF) would jump to the address stored in 10FF and 1000, instead of the one stored in 10FF and 1100). This defect continued through the entire NMOS line, but was corrected in the CMOS derivatives.

In my AVR phase, I build a FORTH interpreter using the jonesforth page.

Nice introduction to threaded interpreters.

With all the shabang, shebang, splatping going on ... someone might stumble upon the magic word and turn into Captain Marvel.

I feel the same way about music licensed to shows or commercials. Due to the amount of airplay a show or commercial gets, the music becomes overused.

The USPS use of "Fly like an Eagle", and overplayed CSI: X shredded The Who songs.

Although, "Love and Marriage" used in "Married with Children" (90's) doesn't have the same tiredness, probably because that Sinatra really wasn't in my listening list.

The ICE is one of the minor items; still needs oil and fluids but are mostly maintenance free for a long while.

All of the other components still need maintenance. Tires, alignment, suspension etc.

Interesting story on how it could go.

Unauthorized Bread, Cory Doctorow

That was one of the major points of the novel (IMHO).

"What if ..." Something that Science Fiction is best at.

Leaded additives to gasoline came to mind as one problem that needed to be halted sooner.

It's not assembler that'll get ya, it's the JCL.

Past Technical Lead, "Don't bother w/ creating the JCL, copy it from <this job>"

I'm listening to one now.

Benefits, doesn't kill your phone battery and it keeps a charge for days.

Cons: soft plastic. Scratches easily and the spring clip broke.

Also add, one less battery to change and entering the environment.

A lot of times when I'm entertaining and cooking, I'll put some music on. Usually around the holidays.

Running Debian (Mint / MATE) for about 8 years.

Biggest issue, running Teams natively (vs web app) and accepting calls. The VPN plays havoc.

> SSNs should be treated ...

As someone who dealt with identity theft, SSN should only be collected if contact with the SSA is needed. I.E. payment of social security benefits.

Any and ALL other "ID", nope. Use some other number.

There is a problem if there is a mismatched DPI between screens.

I've rarely seen it as i usually dock the machine with duplicate monitors.
