Re:My Struggle with Doom Scrolling on Wednesday January 22, 2025 @06:56AM (#42791790)

I've done something similar recently..

I have always deleted apps off my phone but still suffered from access via web.

My solution for X is to logout. This is enough since un-authed has no content and the login screen is enough to stop me.

Then for Youtube/Reddit I blocked on personal and work laptops by adding to /etc/hosts file. If I still had access to un-authed Youtube/Reddit homepage I would still find a way to enjoy it. Also Unhook is too easy to disable for me.

Then for my iPhone I have added both Reddit and Youtube to restricted sites via the iOS settings.

Works well so far.

Re:Making Figma better for developers with Dev Mode on Thursday June 22, 2023 @01:50AM (#36428428)

Hypothetically speaking, if all designers could code at the level of a Snr Front End Engineer, would Figma exist?

Just pretend that magically everybody knew how to code. Wouldn't designs just be done in the browser? No longer do you have to maintain these design artifacts post handover. There would be no unrealistic designs that do not consider the constraints of a browser window.

I know this is unrealistic but I often think about this.

Second time I've seen Linen shared on here. Great to see the evolution.

Do the three of you work on this fulltime?

Yep, mainly focused on two sports soccer and rugby league (#1 sport in my country) which both have a culture of 3, 2, 1 voting system used in my app. I emailed the presidents or coaching staff of hundreds of clubs introducing the product.

Last month was the first time I got to $500/month with an app I have built for sports teams to manage their player of the season voting.

How would you mostly validate these ideas?

Re:Ask HN: What is your “I don't care if this succeeds” project? on Tuesday February 02, 2021 @05:05AM (#25999121)

2020 was the year of me taking up new hobbies so I figured why not document the things I’ve learnt and then some.

I’m not sure where I’m going to take the project but I hope to inspire other people to take up new hobbies

Hipcharts.com is an app I’ve wanted to build for a longtime that allows you to create and share your favourite albums of the year.

I enjoy having colour variables at the top that are project specific blues or oranges which can then be set as the values of other variables such as @state-warning-text.
