Hey Flash. Just saw your messages to this and was curious to know if you also hire remote. Really interested. Email is at my profile. Thanks!
The statistics quoted above do not relate to this particular case. Overgeneralizing much?
Where did you get your fictitious fact from? Where is your evidence? Just making things up as usual right?
And where did you get your "facts" from? Source?
so cool. started learning german :)
Re:Same time, online. On building Synchronous Social Services on Sunday February 12, 2012 @12:04AM (#3581151)
Hi Izak. I am quite interested in the details of your last idea for a synchronous platform. If you don't mind, could you shed some light on what problem you trying to solve? Thanks.

Nice effort. Do you find Python fast enough in solving the required task?
Re:Regression Analysis Using PHP on Sunday September 25, 2011 @02:05AM (#3035207)
Do you have similar regression code in Matlab?

Quite surprised there has been no comment yet. Cool project.
Re:Reddit’s Astonishing Altruism on Saturday November 13, 2010 @09:07PM (#1902291)
Are you all forgeting the good deeds reported about in the article? Does that count for anything from an online community?
Re:Ask HN: What's going on at google? on Wednesday June 23, 2010 @10:01AM (#1454928)
Why is the common denominator to these problems Safari? Any thoughts?
Obviously the argument about if Apple's growth is sustainable or not also hinges on something troublesome about its history: the presence or absence of Steve Jobs. Will you invest in a company that is so much personified in an individual who will definitely leave someday?
Re:The Curious Case Of Vancouver Incubator Bootup Labs on Thursday April 15, 2010 @10:25AM (#1267852)
This type of snafu is not unique to Bootuplabs and can happen even to best run orgs (I remember someone here ranting about ill-treatment at Seedcamp last year). I think managing nerds gets a little tricky when high expectations are involved. After enduring the flames, the guys at Bootuplabs have done their best to explain and apologize about the whole incident. I for one think the world needs more startup minded groups like this, not less. As a startup commnunity, I sincerely hope we can be forgiving.
When reputations are at stake and someone got disappointed, it gets hard managing a PR crisis like this. But all Bootuplabs needs to do is stay focused, reach out to good developers and do its best to create valuable companies. People will pay for Jamie's experience if Bootuplabs creates winning startups that sell.
Re:Thomas Friedman: Start-Ups, Not Bailouts on Sunday April 04, 2010 @05:12AM (#1239966)
What Friedman should be asking is as technology commoditizes, what other high-growth areas can the US be competitive in?Apart from some narrow niche (OS and productivity software, chip design), it seems the US is content with shifting certain types of hardware design and fabrication to foreign nations, while enjoying the role of brand marketing. Cost is usually cited as reasons. I think the question should be: what other growth areas remain and how can they be exploited by these risk-takers?
Re-echoing what someone above said, the analogy in the article is quite stale, without bearing fresh insight in relation to startups. It tries too much to cash in on tabloid like sensationalism ''Kidnappers'' while pretending to educate its readers. It is also wordy. There are a few writers on here who try to share insightful messages in fewer words (Sivers etc.,) and they are modest about the attention they get. Focusing the readers' attention on the amount of shareware money one earns is the equivalent of cyber bling: very suspect.
Re:Nokia N97 Promotional Video vs Real Life on Wednesday March 31, 2010 @04:18PM (#1232905)
Yeah, I laughed on reading that: ''that was just the demo'' : ). I am typing this on a Nokia E63 and it seems kind of ok, though a robust budget device. I have to place the phone some distance from eyes because it's resolution is bright. Point is, there are still some nuggets of good engineering at Nokia. Just give them time to learn from mistakes.
Apple still has to contend with Nokia for the largest mobile computing firm slot, as far as it concerns mobile phones. Granted, Apple has the larger profit because of its iTunes/Apps ecosystem which enables the iPhone, but Nokia still has the larger sales numbers and is working hard to build its ecosytem with its new Maemo OS. I also find WinPhone 7's concept of ''hubs'' radically innovative and superior to the the apps concept. In other words, no one is sitting still...
Seconded here. User Anonymous has been the Internet's early attraction. To show one's website ''likes'', doesn't Stumbleupon already do this?
Re:The Onion Uses Django and Why it Matters to Us on Thursday March 25, 2010 @03:00PM (#1219178)
Thanks for clearing that out. Most people who discuss Django and other frameworks seem to hammer out the point about its CMS heritage a lot: as a way of contrasting it from Rails' web app heritage for instance, with some strange insinuations inferred. However, a quick glance at djangosites.org suggests that Django has been used for a wide array of projects from ecommerce to photo sharing and dating sites etc.,(not forgetting a newly discovered redditplus.com). And these are just a small sample reflecting the rapid evolution of the tool beyond its CMS heritage.
Re:The Onion Uses Django and Why it Matters to Us on Thursday March 25, 2010 @01:40PM (#1218946)
Are you contending that Django cannot do much beyond CMS? I think the contrary here.
Re:The Onion Uses Django and Why it Matters to Us on Thursday March 25, 2010 @10:53AM (#1218550)
Yes, scouring the subreddits can turn up useful discussions like these. I think Django needs more of this exposure from major sites that have used them just to show what is possible with the framework. If one looks at frameworks generally and maps popular website to a framework(e.g. Php to Facebook, Java to Amazon, Ruby to Twitter) they have an idea of what can be done with that tool and Django sure needs a lot more exposure like this.
