News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

For the average person (i.e. threat model is criminals not states) I think this would be less secure due to the difficulty of patching
Re:Ten Years of Instapaper on Monday February 05, 2018 @05:41AM (#16307937)
I only save full page with Evernote (which is the default when you save using their clipper). Means I have it offline and available if the page changes. If it's something where I want it to update I'll bookmark instead in my browser.
Re:Facebook Has Got an Instagram Problem on Saturday February 03, 2018 @03:05AM (#16296739)
I agree with you about the news feed. FB messenger is still the easiest way to contact people (almost everyone has it, you don't need any information being a name). Events are great for easily informing people of what you're doing. Groups are great for alerting a group of people to some information (basically better mailing lists).
Re:A RAM Edition of Dirty Coding Tricks on Monday December 18, 2017 @08:13AM (#15951362)
What's the point of having more memory if not for new features?
Re:The Big Vitamin D Mistake on Thursday December 07, 2017 @05:33AM (#15868969)
Do you know why this is the case? Is there some flaw in their methodology?

Could you give some examples please?

Where on this page does it say that having this mutation makes coffee less harmful?
At one point a similar sentiment could have been expressed about smoking
60*24 = 1440 possibilities. If you guess half these numbers you would expect to crack half the pins.

These small optimisations are pretty independent though. If you double the number of engineers you can do twice as many of them.
Re:Inside Waymo's Secret World for Training Self-Driving Cars on Thursday August 24, 2017 @04:11AM (#15088421)
Who's going to buy a car that might tell them they can't drive?
Re:Ask a Female Engineer: Thoughts on the Google Memo on Wednesday August 16, 2017 @05:34AM (#15026123)
The fact that in India and China (very different cultures) there are a lot of female programmers doesn't say anything about cultural influences in the West. Being encouraged to do maths at age 5 is not the norm (regardless of gender).
Re:Big brother is here, and his name is Facebook on Sunday August 13, 2017 @03:55PM (#15004597)
Having my email or webserver tied to my ISP seems terrible. What happens if I want to switch?
If the police stopped arresting people then criminals would be much more pleased with their work
Re:Britain's Forgotten Bike Highways on Saturday August 12, 2017 @06:42AM (#14997383)
Even if cars were only used by each person a couple of times a week that's still a massive improvement over commuting everyday. (I also think you're exaggerating, toilet paper can easily fit in a backpack.)
