It's such a silly limitation. There are extensions, but they're all imperfect hacks.
That's usually said as Open Source Software (OSS) or longer acronyms that sound like dental care.
While figuring out how to set up credential management for AI, I discovered 1Password CLI, and it terrifies me how it requires giving full account access for 10 minutes to the entire terminal! They seem to think the terminal environment should be treated the same as an app running with macOS protections, and that it's expected user experience to match how the GUI app operates. [1] I think that posture is wildly irresponsible, and that the 1Password GUI authorization dialog should specify and allow access only once to the items requested from CLI.

I don't understand why anyone would use LastPass. [2]

What integrations do you use? I can't really think of what I would miss on the Apple TV if I switched from iPhone. I rarely use AirPlay, disable Photos for in-house privacy reasons, and… oh yeah, the remote control for keyboard, volume, and navigation via iPhone is neat! I think the Apple TV is just a strong product on its own.

Why isn't it the default? :( I'm rarely in control of how a font is used.

Have you explored Focus modes on iPhone? You could place a button for a Shortcut on the lock screen to toggle Focus modes that change which apps show on the Home screen, and which notifications to show (while the others go to Notification center). Could use the Action button or Back Tap to change Focus mode before even seeing the lock screen.

I wonder why XcodeGhost doesn't count as successful, widespread malware attack against iPhone. WeChat was infected. It was before iOS had pasteboard protections.

Push notifications in Safari just suck because the discoverability method is a dialogue box that interrupts and blocks all other user actions.

The browser should never let a website interrupt unless allowed by the user. Place a bell icon in the address bar and make it translucently balloon up when triggered for visibility.

Side note: Browser interface should stay outside the untrusted zone of web content. Whenever it can't, interface could have an unobtrusive unimitable background pattern extending from the trusted zone into the untrusted zone. The user should always know what is browser or website.

Apple's cables are bad. Never been a problem for me because I take care of them, but people shouldn't have to be as careful as I am.
Perhaps allow it on devices older than some age.

You can change the shortcut in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Keyboard > Move focus to next window.

Try also using “Move focus to active or next window”. I have that mapped to Option-Command-` (and implicitly Option-Shift-Command-` for reverse order).

Re:What Is the Signal Encryption Protocol? on Saturday December 05, 2020 @07:54AM (#25314181)
I consider that argument unpragmatic. Any recipient can still be made in control of keeping messages they have received. Sender must assume that the message is unretractable, because recipient can record it with a capturing device. If there is zero trust, you must operate by that assumption. If there is non-zero trust there are practical benefits to enabling any party to request the deletion of messages. Whether each party will accept that request is a matter to consider by the sender. Deletion can be per-conversation or per-contact preference controlled to automate, disable entirely, or prompt.

The program can not guarantee deletion, but in practice that is not necessary for it to be useful.

Strongly disagree. Be consistent, avoid ambiguity, reduce risk of uncertainty. The convention has the feature of combining flags, but there's more. Making -flag and --flag equivalent means combining flags is not possible without potential collisions, and the distinction would become less obvious overall. Usage in practice would be split between -flag and --flag. Enable such inconsistency for what benefits?

I tried arguing for being able to delete messages from all parties of a conversation. [1] They were feature-averse back in 2014 for good reasons, but perhaps now they would consider implementing Delete Messages When Requested on a per-conversation basis.

I don't need raw file system access nor do I think most do, but using the phone as a USB drive is something I've always wanted and had many situations where it would have been useful. Apple could enable iPhone and iPad to be encrypted general storage devices.
