Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @04:43AM (#50349940)
Do you think that means they’d be able to understand and improve their own weights? Or only less complex ones than themself
Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Monday November 02, 2026 @03:08PM (#50342936)
Is there any chance they’ve just seen these weights before and are recognising them?

If not this is mind blowing.

However it would be interesting to k ow if it can understand its own weights, not just weights much simpler than itself.

Doesn’t rooting it void the warranty anyway though!?
Re:I Returned My iPhone Duo on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:47AM (#50303828)
I think this will be different - you already have to include screenshots specifically for iPhone duo. I can easily see Apple just rejecting iPhone apps that don’t support it properly.
Re:I Returned My iPhone Duo on Friday October 30, 2026 @05:45AM (#50301685)
Still waiting for my Duo so I have no authority really but…

Complaining about app support in the first week of release is silly. It will obviously get better very fast. Apple will force developers to make all new updates work well.

Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Thursday October 29, 2026 @07:29PM (#50297725)
That sounds fun. What do you mean?
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Thursday October 29, 2026 @05:44AM (#50286556)
It literally all gets transferred with the backup.

I went from an m1 MacBook to m5 earlier this year. It was almost too smooth - I just felt like I had the same computer and not a new one. Which in a way was disappointing.

Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @07:46PM (#50282552)
You haven’t tried upgrading recently. It is incredibly easy.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @06:34PM (#50281904)
I was expecting there to be more like a ‘studio mode’ where you can fold it over to make it a screen interface that has some kind of bigger iPad style Ui. Where you could also use a stylus.

Basically a product for the people currently carrying around a MacBook Pro and an iPad Pro.

Just touch on a laptop screen makes no sense. I’ve never felt the need to do this.

Re:GPT-6.1 Terra on Monday October 26, 2026 @03:38PM (#50249743)
This makes a lot of sense.

It’s probably just unavoidable. Like when Apple release a new MacBook Air first and it is (in some ways) faster than the old MacBook Pro.

I think the planets thing is a bit confusing though. I hadn’t really thought about it being based on the size of the planet. I assumed it was based on how far away they were with terra therefore being the base one.

Re:Every AI model has the same "controversial" take on humans on Thursday October 22, 2026 @06:57PM (#50202245)
This is literally an ad for ModelCompare.

The link to ask yourself is a frikkin sign up link.

Downvote.

Re:Claude Duet on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @06:52PM (#50188816)
If only someone had invented a way to easily make great websites automatically? Ah well, I guess that’s just a pipe dream.
Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @10:05AM (#50166665)
Xi gave a speech about it a while ago. The idea is that ai should increase productivity for the whole economy not just centralise it in 2 or 3 ai companies.

Of course screwing over America’s crown jewel companies is a helpful side effect.

Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @09:59AM (#50166599)
Probably because it’s a discussion about DeepSeek and you didn’t include that in your comparison so it came off a bit big-lab-fan
What still is true for all fields of LLMs: if you can’t tell they do it suboptimally, you are just not that knowledgable in that area.

It still applies to all things LLms can do from law to code to art to ideas.

They can do it - and very acceptably - but only to the untrained eye.

I don’t really get why this is surprising.

If you just looked at the sound wave of these being spoken you’d see one is more skirt than the other.

Even the letter b is more sounded than the letter k

Re:GLP-1 may slow biological aging on Saturday October 17, 2026 @02:23PM (#50133639)
You know what else slows aging? Eating properly and exercise.
Today’s email:

“Your discount expired, here is one more at 40%”

It’s almost as if the expiration was just some kind of pressure marketing trick….

I’ve now received several emails with ‘limited time buy now’ offers. With count down timers.

I really don’t get it. It’s like they’re run by Temu.

The few generations I did looked promising but their whole vibe is just sell sell and feels so cheap.

2 images to try and then the only option after is a monthly subscription.

I don’t mind buying credits but I don’t want a subscription.

Re:Catch a Bird – I made it for my own sanity on Thursday October 15, 2026 @03:29AM (#50100450)
This is lovely. And also quite clever in the mechanic - as well as being beautiful it makes abuse by ‘the internet’ which is always so inevitable with any open message posting, not very rewarding since it just comes and goes.
It would be funnier in a way if this is true and that all they do there now is ‘ask the model’ about all problems.
It’s the criminals that you don’t catch that you have to worry about.

The fact that even this incompetent dude most likely still made off with some secrets means I’m sure some better trained ones got/are continuing to get a few more.

Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @02:21PM (#50076213)
So it’s an iPad with no battery / smart home powered by what is still a terrible voice assistant.

Hard pass

It gets very attached to itself
It’s extremely ironic that the software that’s meant to end software is itself pretty terrible software.
Because the Cloudflare hosting is just a choice. You can change it easily.

The self hosted part is about the ai provider.

Again. This is obvious.

Yeah completely agree. Jeez someone made something cool.

It’s self hosted as in not by an ai provider. This is obvious.

Sure it’s set up to run on some infrastructure but just tweak it if you want to and stop complaining.

Re:Claude Haiku 5.5 on Saturday October 10, 2026 @01:25PM (#50035078)
About pelicans on bicycles.

And then just and recursive loop

What do you think comes next instead?
