Nice work!

I do wonder, however, whether people really have issues with perf on any terminal emulator in 2026

I’ve been living in Terminal.app / zsh / tmux / vim for 15 years and have never once thought “this is slower than I want.”

Whoa, nice reminder of how filthy rich I and almost everyone I know are.
Re:2026 HIPAA Security Rule Update on Monday May 25, 2026 @03:33PM (#48270721)
I'm not sure why there's so much negativity in this thread. The listed requirements were already basic table-stakes security standards. IMO, anyone not encrypting all user data at rest, requiring MFA, etc. is bush league.

I’d love to find a way to do something similar with neighboring dogs.
... and a car to haul all that stuff, and time to drive to the nearest Costco.

It really is a luxury that a ton of people can't afford.

Re:Poisoning Well for LLMs on Friday September 05, 2025 @08:08PM (#45145191)
That’ll end up in an arms race where you refine the gibberish to be more and more believable while the crawlers get better and better at detecting poison wells. The end state is where your fake pages are so close to the real thing that humans can’t tell the difference

Not with physical security either, I'm afraid.

They sort of do have that power. They have the ability to lower the max vehicle weight and eventually it gets lowered to where no real traffic can go over it. Grady talked about it in the video.
because one doesn't tend to get drunk on pie and then go beat up your wife or run over a pedestrian with your car. Is it biblical? No, but people rank sins by social impact out of habit.

You can also just use a hand mixer with only one beater inserted.

Cheekily forging forward with Atwood's law! I love it!

And has Optum conveniently forgotten to ship refills, but only for the expensive drugs? That happened to my wife on multiple occasions.

Or maybe they've rejected refill requests until right before your supply runs out, such that you have to go days without your meds while the new supply is shipped?

Optum is the shadiest shitshow I've ever dealt with.

I used to think like that until I got to see some legacy systems in action. Sometimes it just makes financial sense to keep paying Larry and avoid a big rewrite.

You’re assuming that everyone in the office is a coworker.

I recommend Deviant Ollam’s YouTube channel for an entertaining way to expand your assumptions

We’ll call it “spacecadet’s law”: every online discussion will eventually end up talking about the bubble-du-jour.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like podman is by and for linux devs. Once you move to Mac or Windows, you give up podman's main benefit of running containers without a daemon since you're still having to run a VM.

I remember where I was when we hit 1,000,000,000. My coworkers thought I was strange for thinking it was significant.

... two days later all hell broke loose.

It's goofy on FF/Mac too. Not flashing but oddly distorted.

I'm having trouble seeing what google tag manager has to to with it.

Re:Jupe: Off-grid shelters that pop up anywhere on Earth on Sunday October 15, 2023 @05:20AM (#37888259)
This feels like the Juicero of tents.
Exactly. Some sort of escrow to guarantee that what goes up will eventually come down. Without that satellite operators could go out of business and dissolve without cleaning up their messes, much like mining companies have historically done.
Even better: just uninstall the apps and only use the sites via mobile web. The benefits: you'll never see a single notification from apps you don't have, they'll never be able to eat your battery, openings for tracking are much reduced, and the slightly less awesome UI of the web version will somewhat reduce the dopamine hit you get from interacting with them.
Re:Runme – Interactive Runbooks Built with Markdown on Thursday August 24, 2023 @06:56PM (#37255617)
Another is that it looks like runme is written in Go instead of python. It's a single executable I can drop onto any new machine instead of futzing around getting a particular python version installed before doing any work.

Re:Why Is the U.S. So Good at Killing Pedestrians? on Thursday July 06, 2023 @07:59PM (#36625067)
I’ve noticed the same in Seattle. There’s also a more “I dare you to hit me” attitude in a lot of my fellow pedestrians than in other cities I’ve lived in. I’m sure that has at least something to do with it too.
Pierce County has quite a few anti-vaxxers.
> The corporate workers were okay with hearing about the warehouse workers peeing in bottles

Were they really? No Amazombies I know felt that way. You're going to need a source for such a claim.

So, nobody built a scale model or 3D simulation before they built it IRL? Or is the article leaving something out?
Apples and oranges
What if switching jobs came with no overhead? That is, what if you could decide one day to change jobs and you'd be going to a different job the next day? Would you do it? Sure you would. At worst, you'd find out that your original job was great and you'd go back there.

The reason I pose that question is that I've found that for me the hardest thing about switching jobs is the overhead of switching: I have to do uncomfortable things for a while: grinding leetcode, switching to a salesman mentality where I'm selling my skills, risking lots of rejection, etc. The thing is that it's always been worth the hassle. I've gotten a raise every time. I've met people I respect and like every time. I've also learned things that I didn't know existed at every new job.

If you go through a couple more jobs and find you miss your first employer then you can at least go back there with a better resume than you had when you left.
