Isn't that the issue though? Nobody cares until it's too late.
What ChatGPT can do combine knowledge and provide personalised examples. This is usually done manually and it takes hours of research with trial & error.
Tough choice.

Weird goo that was grown in a lab by people that have no idea what they're doing OR natural food we've been eating since the dawn of time.

No worries, all this is coming in a few years as well.
> US controls the land and seas of most of the Earth

They do so with the help of allies which they seem to forget.

I don't know. I really enjoy 10 popups when i visit a website.
Re:Zoho's annual revenues surpassed $1B in 2021 on Thursday November 10, 2022 @03:25AM (#33543711)
Happily using Zoho for 2-3 years now. Moved away from Google because... well you can't trust them with anything.
> whims of a private American corporation

Exactly. Private corporations that adhere under US law and have demonstrated that they don't operate in good faith.

Each country should control official channels of communication.

> This is an indication that Google underestimates the value of data stored by users.

That becomes apparent if you ever had any issue with a google product. There's no way to resolve issues outside of canned answers from "AI" systems and public forums.

> If you criticize the Corona measure you are a Nazi, if you criticize the Ukraine war you are a Russian troll?

These notions are propagated by the US to the rest of the world. While EU politicians seem to go along, europeans do not tolerate it much and that much is reflected in society.

If the EU or more gov sponsored search engines pop up, i have no doubt they will want to control them in their own way - i'm okay with that. Right now our only option is US controlled entities that answer to US govs and rules.

At least here we can point fingers and hold politicians accountable if they try to influence things the wrong way. We can't do that with US companies.

Why should we trust google? They have a proven track record of doing this.
Re:Google suspended our domain out of the blue – lyearn[.]com on Sunday September 11, 2022 @06:51AM (#32798558)
I've been avoiding any google product lock in for years now. These ban cases might be rare but i would never trust them enough to build my livelihood on it.

> open source as a whole sucks at building products, but is great at building infrastructure

Infrastructure you can trust. Most close sourced tech will lock you in and you're at their mercy - no thanks.

> In the justice system, you are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Let's be honest, it rarely works that way.

However i agree, what facebook did here is "shoot fist, ask for forgiveness later".

We aren't far from that future.
"They" can be anyone with the latest 0-day exploit.
I'm surprised you're surprised. Apple has been deviating from good UX little by little every year now.
US applies US law globally. EU applies EU law in the EU - see the difference? At the very least, we as Europeans have some influence over local politics.
The audacity of the US. They literally spy and collect data from the whole internet - not just US citizens, EVERYONE!

Data collection aside - relying on a single Appstore that is governed by US law is not acceptable.

Re:The dark side of Shopify on Sunday July 10, 2022 @05:58AM (#32043292)
Not just Google Cloud, any google service in general. If you have a problem or one of their "AI" systems locks you out, then you're out. No way to resolve the issue.
Re:The collapsing quality of dev.to (2021) on Saturday June 25, 2022 @07:50AM (#31874449)
Same thing happened with Medium. Initially it had thoughtful content and once the platform became more popular, it also attracted worse content.

Typical articles:

How to build and Android app.

1. Learn android

2. Find and idea.

3. Build the app.

Thanks for reading this. Follow me on Twatter etc....

They basically baited you to open the link with an interesting title and the content had no substance.

Re:iPadOS 16 on Tuesday June 07, 2022 @05:22AM (#31651743)
Seriously. I really wanted to buy an iPad but then realised i have no use for it.

It's not as good as my laptop and the functionality in every aspect is still very limited. The only unique feature is drawing/notes which might work for artists but paper is good enough for me.

I want to like it but for now it's still a giant iphone with a pen.

I really hate that. They are completely different pieces of content but NOOOO, they want to be the "all audio" platform.

Re:Programming Burnout on Saturday May 21, 2022 @08:31AM (#31457294)
I'm seasoned enough with burnouts and the best cure is indeed to quit (for a while).

Last year, nearing summer - i quit my job and didn't touch my laptop for 3 months.

Resumed during fall with a fresh mind and lots of energy to code again.

Dart is horrible and the sole reason i don't touch Flutter
