That's incredible to me that the boss had the gall to ask you not to look for a new job. Good job on your business, I hope your success continues.
unfortunately, they work.
Re:You gotta be rich to own a cheap car on Thursday February 05, 2015 @04:13PM (#9006144)
Actually you can pretty much guarantee optimal maintenance, because all cars are on a schedule and regulated by the corporate office. Everything else is spot on. You'd be surprised about the % of used cars starting in a rental fleet, even if they aren't sold by those companies directly.
Do everything that everyone else here has stated, but also watch out for other things that they might fraudulently claim:

- Local listings - make sure that the Google local listing, and other local directories are showing the correct information, and that they didn't try to change this

- Social media accounts - What the scammy company would sell as "reputation management." Verify that they are not creating accounts on all of the big social media sites.

Re:Ask HN: How Should I Market This Thing? on Friday January 30, 2015 @12:23PM (#8973061)
I'm not your target audience, but here are my two cents:

Initially, I had no idea what this app did, and the details are a little vague... From the sound of it, if users download the app, it all makes sense and is an awesome experience. What you need is a tested call to action that makes users want to drop everything to download the app.

There are tons of ways to find potential users, and feel free to email me at johnsonmkj at gmail if you want to talk a little more in depth, I'm happy to provide some insight.

Re:A visual guide to selling Software as a Service on Thursday September 04, 2014 @12:50PM (#8269297)
I've used Moz. It's worth it if you have time and resources to follow the advice that they give. It's not one of those tools that is a fire and forget, because you still have to make the effort when it comes to content marketing or linkbuilding.
From the home page, it looks like you have a placeholder href:

<a href="#" class="btn btn-large btn-warning " style="color:#fff;" target="_blank">Join&nbsp;Beta Program</a>

I like where you are thinking with the real estate ideas, but here are my thoughts: As long as we have the concept of buyer's agents, then the system will continue. Real estate agents take any buyer and tell them that their service is free to them. As a seller, that's 2.8% that I don't even have a chance to get away from, which is no good.

Re:Ask HN: New parent or CTO at startup? Can I do both? on Tuesday February 18, 2014 @04:01PM (#7261016)
I started a job at a startup a few months before my daughter was born, and it was not easy. One thing to consider is the goodwill you've built up at the current company. They are more likely to understand you being less plugged in for the first month or so after the baby is born.

One thing: When you are at home, don't expect to accomplish ANYTHING for a while. Your job is to make sure your wife has everything she needs, because she will be on the strictest schedule imaginable feeding the baby. It is tough for the first two months, and then you start to get pockets of time back to focus.

Looks interesting. Found a small content issue from the about page: "With Poucher, for each restaurant or bar you visit, you get print a digital voucher."

Good luck.

New to django, care to share a link?

It's all about the scope of what you would consider "SEO" projects. Would you consider creating search-friendly URLs SEO projects or just best practices?

That's one of the first things I think about when I look at a site from a SEO perspective: can the bots easily digest this site.
