What behavior from Airbnb do you think compares in criminality to running an online bookie?
Yeah it got bought by Kong a while back, and they're definitely not a great company, but the application itself still seems pretty OK.
I really like that you can paste a curl in to setup a new request.
This is definitely the type of app that some AI agent could cobble together pretty quickly, so I don't know why Postman etc thinks they have enough of a moat to keep enshittifying their product.
All of this has made me really appreciate that the people I work for, and with, aren't childish assholes. People need to realize this is not normal behavior from an executive or anyone in any sort of management position.
My wife is also a teacher and also loves the touch screen on her notebook, she will instinctively touch to scroll whenever she's on my macbook.
Did it give you the source(s) so you could double check?
Ok, but I don't want Anthropic to be worth 2 trillion. Because then I'm just breaking even. I want, lets say, 5x that. I don't think anyone would buy it for only that - but even at 5x they need to be making $400-500B a year, 3x what Microsoft is currently making.
Regardless of how you felt about Amazon as an investment when they went public my point is - they actually the potential to grow as much as they did. I don't believe Anthropic has the potential to grow even a fraction as much.
They're not really a "good investment" unless they are literally worth more than combined GDP of the entire planet, multiple times over. I don't think I'm buying shares of Weyland-Yutani here, but they sure are acting like it.
Oh I'm certainly not betting against them in the short run. I mean people are out here buying Tesla and SpaceX still.
My main thing is - why would I buy their stock at the rumored valuation? Regardless of anything else that valuation is basically saying all their growth has been captured, unless they literally take over the world.
If you could go back in time and buy $1000 worth of Amazon when they IPO'd, it would be worth 3.3 million today. Because Amazon's stock value has grown on average 30% year over year for 30 years. Amazon's valuation when they went public was around 400 million.
How much can Anthropic reasonably grow from a 1.5 or 2 trillion dollar valuation? If we want them to grow even half as much as Amazon they'd have to be worth 5.9 quadrillion dollars by 2056. That's 5,900,000,000,000,000, a 16 digit number.
Question for Jellyfin users - how's the support for non-tech people that were using your library? Like my parents use my Plex, and getting them switched to something else is going to be a hell ride.
I think the comment has been completely deleted now.
Well I think its mostly both we, and the original meme, are mixing up two different things.
I assume, I think correctly, that if you're running some sort of propaganda network you do actually want to appear to be living in/coming from that part of the world. So therefore showing "bot" traffic from the Yandex ASN dropping and correlating that directly with "bot" accounts going silent is incorrect. That "bot" traffic is not the propaganda network, its mostly just Yandex's own web scraping bots (which again, anyone that uses Cloudflare and has managed bots on there would tell you)
Now if you want to say that the infrastructure lives there, and is using proxies, VPN etc to appear to come from somewhere in the USA, Poland, etc - then OK. But that's not what the original meme was attempting to describe.
I really ought to do something like this rather than just allowing our logs to endlessly fill with requests for wp-admin.
Anyone that actually uses Cloudflare and manages their own bot traffic saw those graphs getting passed around and cringed. It has been an interesting thing to watch though as it was disseminated, echoed, and remixed with all sorts of "evidence" of this or that engagement dropping.
Russian state actors and propaganda networks literally using Yandex's ASN is like the CIA calling you from a payphone in the lobby of Langley.
Now you could say that parts of their infrastructure were hosted in there, and I'm sure it was, but the "bot" traffic narrative was pretty stupid.
Meh, I wish Cloudflare would break down its "bot" traffic a little more. I assume most of that is just Yandex's scraper going down. Which is good for disrupting Russian daily life but its not like their propaganda machine is knocked out.
Depends on the datacenter. If SpaceX etc weren't intent on cutting corners with illegal natural gas generators and trying to trick locals there wouldn't be any push back. Its not like we started building these things in the last couple of years. I've been to plenty of data centers that no one even knew were data centers because they weren't the size of Manhattan and spewing out tons of noise pollution.
There's a few that don't work, I was able to get the some of the "scoping" meetings to play the audio.
This title of this post is misleading and should be the title of the article. Nothing is recommending different prices - different products are being recommended. Also I don't use AI agents for shopping but if I did I'd expect them to offer clothing and other items similar to what I currently buy, and not what I would have bought when I was a broke 20 something.
I'll bet there's a browser extension to hide comments and posts from those auto generated user names. Like maybe you end up not seeing something interesting because someone used a throwaway account, but otherwise I don't really care what someone has to say that can't even be bothered to pick a name.
Rails has died many deaths over the years. I suppose its ironic that yet another one will be at the hands of its creator, as part of the keynote of a Rails conference he created because the community tried to have one conference where he wasn't the focus of attention.
All this does is justify the people that have been trying to move on from DHH for years. If his politics didn't do it, or his bullying, maybe the fact that he doesn't even use Rails himself will pull the wool from their eyes.
Rails itself will continue. I see no reason to stop using it.
Yeah 5.6 Sol is what got me to switch from Anthropic. I couldn't deal with Claude's Ted Talk responses to literally everything. Sol has been nice and concise and just stays out of the way.
Does uBlock Origin (or something equivalent) work in Safari?
I have a 12 Pro Max purchased at release, battery is now at 83% capacity. Still lasts all day and then some, rarely think how much I've got left on a charge.
I'm sorry so many people are hating on your house. I guess I could understand it if someone was showing off their yacht, because this isn't a boat owners forum, but a lan party house ought to be right up HN's alley. I think its awesome, and impressive yall have maintained friendships like that for so long. Some of my best memories are from the LAN parties of decades ago. Although some of the fun was in the amount of friction, like manually assigning IPs. Or when everyone got the code red worm as soon as they joined the network. Just being able to walk into something like this would literally have blown our minds back then.
Yeah fandom has done this to several games. its taken a huge effort on the part of the Satisfactory community to make sure people know the official wiki is
https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/ and not the garbage on fandom.
Using an extension to block fandom.com results is helpful because for other games I'm not really thinking about it when searching for something and find myself on that tumor of a website.
Its hard to tell if the folks at Plex understand the position they're in. They definitely are dancing right up to the line of pushing people too far. I could see them trying to boil the frog with stuff like putting their garbage free streaming stuff front and center more. Like so there won't be one specific thing they do that makes everyone realize its time to leave.
I think one silver lining is that whenever it does reach a tipping point there's going to be a ton of support for projects like Jellyfin, so hopefully we see more feature parity - in particular for shared access for friends and family.
Cribs was at its best when it was some newly rich musician living in a boring suburban neighborhood and they had basically nothing in their house except some weird piece of art that cost 300k.
I think a lot of it is lighting - I imagine they have the "house lights" on for these photos. Turn the temperature down and it becomes a lot cozier. The normal parts of the house look great.
