Re:Everybody's Lost Their Minds on Friday September 18, 2026 @09:29AM (#49754142)
Do you remember when people were proud to say they were computer illiterate and refused to learn how to use them for as long as they could? Do you know the tales of John Henry or Paul Bunyan? I am sure there are plenty of other analogies that can be drawn, but what cannot be denied is that if most people believe that this is progress, then this is where we are heading.

This is why I'm glad to be an American. I think.

Anyone here like to mix mayonnaise and mustard?
Maybe sit with your kid while they're learning during the most formative years of their life instead of offloading the burden of raising a child to your DNS configuration.

I was responding to:

> I don't see the why of the voxel sprites compared to the beautiful 3D rendering.

Also, the project homepage says, "SpriteStack is a voxel editor suited for 2D artists"

Re:SpriteStack Voxel Editor on Friday July 09, 2021 @04:47PM (#27788303)
With a sprite sheet export you could simulate the 3D rendering using CSS animation and background image position [1]. Some front end developers enjoy challenging themselves by using just HTML and CSS (no JS) to create complex interactive experiences.

Same exact story for me. One taste was all needed to know that I dare not taste again.

I seem to always have this handy snippet in my dev tools history:

document.querySelectorAll('input[type=checkbox]').forEach(el => el.removeAttribute('checked'))

The comparison between training BERT and a 5 year old made me wonder what the carbon footprint is to raise someone to the age of 5.

Maybe it's more like, "I'm good at this one thing, but these are some tools I find useful to achieve that."

Can you add the 'range' input type?
Re:A Prettier JavaScript Formatter on Tuesday January 10, 2017 @08:45PM (#13371074)
I get why this bothers a lot of people, but OTOH I get why some people like it. I think the reason for the former in the mind of the user is that the comma clearly signifies that you are adding another value after it, and you save valuable key strokes not having to add a comma to the end of the preceding line just to add another k:v on the line you're concerned about.
Re:WebRTC: the future of web games on Wednesday December 28, 2016 @10:36AM (#13271121)
I think there's room for discourse in this area TBQH. There are many alternative terms that would communicate the purpose of the framework and its class members just as well, if not better than something with 'slave' or 'enslave' in the name. Especially if you want to potentially attract adoption among users who might have ancestors who were enslaved, and also incidentally have a harder time getting a job in tech. I know I for one would like to use a software package that doesn't also remind me of a painful memory.

I should've known better than to bring this up in a thread concerning gaming.
Re:Flipping the Script on Recruiters on Saturday February 07, 2015 @01:37PM (#9014840)
This is interesting. I've found that a (good) recruiter will work hard to drive up your salary because it benefits them in the end usually. I believe most make a commission based on your salary in the contract. This only applies to external recruiters--I doubt it works the same for internal recruiters for obvious reasons, but I may be wrong. I dunno.

Although not in tech, my partner was contacted by an external recruiter looking to fill a position at an architecture firm. She was reluctant to leave her current job working with the best (IMHO) living architect today, but the recruiter did the leg work and came back with an offer that was something few of us could negotiate on our own. All she had to do was respond to the recruiter's occasional emails. This is the ideal scenario, and as I mentioned in a previous comment, I don't know the ins and outs of recruiting, so it might be more cutthroat than I realize, and they probably don't have the resources to give you that kind of a la carte service, but I think the OP's approach can open the potential for that.

Re:Flipping the Script on Recruiters on Saturday February 07, 2015 @12:27PM (#9014606)
So do you think this approach would make good recruiter better? It seems like it would. You would encourage the recruiter to maintain a long term relationship with you, and hopefully they'd respect your boundaries and only reach out when they have a prospect that is too good to pass up.
Re:Flipping the Script on Recruiters on Saturday February 07, 2015 @11:23AM (#9014372)
Some are worse than others, but that guy sounds particularly bad.
Re:Flipping the Script on Recruiters on Saturday February 07, 2015 @10:21AM (#9014186)
Wow. Charging someone to help you find a job. Now that's really flipping the script!
Re:Flipping the Script on Recruiters on Saturday February 07, 2015 @10:18AM (#9014177)
I like this. I know that recruiters are something a lot of us have to deal with, and most of the time they are an annoyance. This approach sounds like it could save a lot of wasted time for both of us. That said, I realize I don't know much about the business of being a recruiter, and I wonder what their perspective might be.

Whatever you do, don't eat the food at Casa Bonita! They require you to purchase a meal in order to go in, but DO NOT EAT IT.

You can eat the sopaipillas though.

I'm gonna guess that you're getting down voted because your first post is a poorly thought out attack, and it seems like you didn't read the article.
Nice.
