It's funny how when talking about Israël's wrongdoings, everything is just "allegedly". Facts already confirms genocide, but hey, they don't want to land in hot water.

You need to be a product-minded engineer.

I was told at university that every software system is a socio-technical system. Keeping a mental note of that fact has helped me throughout my career.

Thank you for sharing such a deep and hurtful part of your life. I'm sorry for your loss, I cannot imagine what it feels like.
To me these type of cases has always been BS, especially since not every company gets the same treatment. Next, they should ask Tesla to give its customers the choice of the autopilot software its car runs...
What a hell it must have been for Mr Wood

Makes sense, thanks

The Navy says it's a one in a million event and he disagree. You concur with him based on two more events that happened decades apart. Isn't that a one in a million event?
Good luck maintaining your own infra, server, system middle war combo. It's a whole area in itself. Let the specialists do it and focus on your core business. Saying otherwise is just a lack of pragmatism.
That's just nitpicking
I sense that you're writing this as if software is an end to itself as opposed to a mean. It's normal to engage with third party, especially for activities that are not part of your core business.

"Alleged dark" matter he should have said. He haven't been able to detect it up to now.
Some of us are in countries that use the metric system. So "everyone" is quite a sweeping statement.
Re:SpaceX is now building a Raptor engine a day, NASA says on Wednesday November 02, 2022 @04:46PM (#33442683)
Does it mean one engine rolls off the assembly line each day or that they build one from start to finish in a day? Probably the first assumption I guess.
Re:Elon Musk owns Twitter: The story so far on Saturday October 29, 2022 @05:00AM (#33382283)
Wonderful news. I'm curious to see how the platform will change, hopefully for better, under his leadership. We need to find a way to foster free speech, and not only have Twitter as a liberal echo chamber.
Re:Cobra Maneuver on Monday October 03, 2022 @03:27AM (#33064486)
Is this useful and relevant in the age of 5th generation airplanes and current weapon (e.g. missile) technology ? My intuition tells me not
Re:Apps have become too good at their jobs on Saturday September 10, 2022 @03:21AM (#32788598)
I just wish they'd let users disable these extra attention grabbing features.

In WhatsApp for example, I just want to use it as a messaging app but I find myself getting drawn to statuses and wasting my time and attention there. I try to combat it by muting each individual status but it's not an effective strategy. It would be great to have the option to either disable it or only allow certain person.

Absolutely, I'm convinced people will keep on eating insects as wealth increases.

It's not out of constrain that people have them in their diet, but it's part of their culinary culture.

Of course, as people get wealthier, new habits form, they are able to afford previously unattainable food, and surely they're will a shift in the diet, but eating insects will not be eliminated.

Re:House passes bill that DoD software can’t have any CVEs on Thursday August 18, 2022 @02:18AM (#32505944)
Am I the only one to wonder what CVEs are?
I would suggest you look at studies by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), you'll find data
I assume in the Western part of the world, you haven't been eating insects in normal times, but it's not the case in other regions.

In my country for instance, people eat termites, crickets, caterpillars/larvae of rynchophorus, Augosoma centurus among others.

They are a considerable source of nutriments such as proteins and lipids.
